I’ve been listening to this song and enjoying it for decades but it’s a particular thrill to see a young person experiencing it and appreciating it for the first time. We could just listen to the studio version again, but this is why reactions are so great.

This album, The Yes Album and the following 2 albums, Fragile and Close to the Edge are the holy trinity of Yes and cemented them as legends and were all done in less than a 2 year period, 1971-1972, listen to them, all of it. As a side note you won't find a band that has had so many line up changes over the years and a look at the Wikipedia page will confirm this, Chris Squire (RIP) is the only constant thorough the history, this song was frequently used as a the show closer and they rocked it live.

I remember like it was Yesterday, almost 50 years ago, 12 years old, Mom, and Dad, and my older brother gone somewhere, and I went into my brothers room, to look at all his albums, and first found Fragile, then The Yes Album, then Close To The Edge, and I proceeded to turn the house into one Huge Speaker for the entire neighborhood, I never got any complaint, and my parents, and brother, did not know that my young ears, had just been blessed to hear the most Epic music of all time. My brother still has that Yamaha CR 2020 Receiver, and Turntable, and Klipsch speakers. Massive system, massive sound, a seriously profound moment in my life.

5:30 -- Bassist Chris Squire's voice comes to the fore here, as it does in the middle sections of "South Side of the Sky" and "Close to the Edge." I love Chris' voice, which is one reason why I love listening to his solo album "Fish Out Of Water" so much. He was always an invaluable augmentation to Jon Anderson's lead vocals.

Yes was played on rock radio all the time. I never owned an album, yet I know so many of their songs,. All from play on the radio. I wanted to let you know this, because it is important when listening today to it, that you consider that this type of progressive music was played, and was popular. Also, some of Yes' longer songs were played too. Can you imagine audiences of today - like your average radio listening person, listening to something like Yes? I know my attention span has shortened! But it is worth hearing their catalogue and gaining an appreciation for their work.

I happened to see, just by dumb luck really, Yes's first North American concert. Yes was touring the Yes Album and were the opening act for two other bands. This song, I remember vividly. The crowd went wild for it, despite the fact that the album had been on sale in my town for less than a week and really, no one knew who they were. When their set ended they got another standing O and did an encore, almost unheard of for a band, especially for one 3rd on a bill, featuring Alice Cooper (touring Love it to Death) and Black Sabbath (touring Paranoid).

You got it- NEVER boring!! These are some of the most creative and talented musicians of their time and I am blessed to have grown up listening to them and seeing them live! When you listen again, 16 beats before the guitar solos near the end, listen for the drummer double-timing on that bass drum! It always sends me chills after the huge build up until then, culminating in the ecstatic guitar solos! Enjoy the Yes trip- it's a stellar one!! 🎵❤️🎵

*Starship Trooper* was the first song I heard on the radio by YES as a senior in high school that completely blew my mind. I had to go out and buy the album & went to see them in concert at the first opportunity. It was at that concert that I heard *Close To The Edge* for the first time & became a completely infatuated fan for the next few decades. Your reaction shows that _even today_ what YES produced back then is the Best Music that music lovers _today_ are hearing for the first time. That's really saying something for this truly unique musical Phenomenon that came together in 1968. SMH in wonder...

Man, thank you for that, watching your reaction is like hearing it again for the first time, and that is a real gift. This might be my favorite in their whole catalogue. There are lots of bands that were influenced by Yes, most of which don't clome close, but the two bands that do are Rush (2nd wave prog) and Dream Theater ( 3rd wave prog). DT is way more metal though. Rush was more like Zepplin in the beginning, and gradually became more prog over time. Both bands were heavoly influenced, by Yes, but they each do their own thing. Yes was lightning in a bottle and will never be replicated, ever. Glad you found 'em! As for Rush and Dream Theater: maybe start by looking up Xanadu by Rush (preferably the Exit..Stage Left live version), and Learning To Live by Dream Theater, off the Images and Words album.

So much awesome music back then. So many different kinds of great music. Prog Rock, Metal, Pop Rock, Acid Rock along with other great music such as Motown R&B. Don't forgot Marvin, Temp, Tops, Oh my God Stevie Wonder, pure genius! The great voices going on at the same time such as Carpenters. We haven't even mentioned the great Canadian singers, writers and musicians such as Burton and Randy of Guess Who, Gordon Lightfoot, Joni Mitchell then Rush who were so impressed with Yes that they emulated them and then Geddy inducted Yes into R&R hall of Fame then played the part of his mentor Chris Squire on Roundabout. Last but never least was Mahavishvu Orchestra, Weather Report and Return to Forever which was Fusion at its finest. Steely Dan in there own category who never made a bad song let alone average album!! Katy Lied Pretzel Logic can't but a Thrill. AJA, Royal Scam, should I continue? You get the picture! My two Favs will always be Tull and Yes. Seen Tull 5/6 times and Yes at least six. We had more great bands in 70's than there are decent songs now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Its all about talent and style and we had it in spades!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You have just begun your journey. Problem is what to follow with as far as a band you have started with the best. Hard act to follow! Oh well you're young!!

I'm not sure if you'll ever see this Pope, but I feel I have to tell you...this, THIS is the best reaction to any Yes song (or any other, for that matter), that I have ever seen. This is the reason that I subscribed to your channel. This is the reason I believe that there is still hope for mankind. You feel the music in much the same way that I do, the same way that I did when I first heard this incredible musical masterpiece. Thank you...thanks a lot. ✌😎

I love your reactions. I see I'm a couple of years late here, but that doesn't matter--yes is just as good today as they were a couple of years ago; glad to be following you.

It's great to see you enjoy the music I've been listening to since I was a teenager. I guess the word "timeless" just about covers it, but other words like "astonishing", "transcendent" and "life affirming" are just as fitting. Please continue to explore the music from this era because there are a lot of other great bands to visit and appreciate. More power to you sir.
