Fantastic video, thank you! I'm healing from this surgery, repairing the tendon and retinaculum. It's very helpful for me to finally understand my surgery better thanks to this video. After many ankle sprains it became a chronic pain issue and physical therapy never made it go away. I received a lot of skepticism because I often didn't have much bruising or swelling, despite the pain and I was always expected to have a much faster recovery than I did. I'm glad I finally insisted on seeing a podiatrist who gave me an MRI and discussed my options, both surgical options and non surgical, and let me make a decision based on my pain and my goals. The surgical recovery is hard, but not unbearable, and it is hard to be patient with each stage in healing. I'm looking forward to seeing how much this improves my quality of life. 👏

Hi I have this as well and I’m trying to figure out surgery. Did you get the groove deepening one or something else? Also did they say anything in regards to growth plates bc I’m 15 and I’ve had it for like 4 years, but I’m worried about it damaging my growth plates. Thanks
@HalfBlindPlans2 күн бұрын
@JediWookie17 Hi there. No, I did not have anything done to the bone. My surgeon stitched up the tendon and the retinaculum. I'm fully grown so no discussion about growth plates. I'm about 1 year post-op. I can say that the surgery was a "success," but it did set off other issues. I don't regret the surgery, but I do regret the post-op care. I was a great patient about resting and elevating my foot. I wasn't required to wear my boot during those times, and my boot always hurt, so I spent a lot of time with it off, both while resting during the day and while sleeping at night. That much time without weight bearing and having my foot in a toes-down relaxed position really wrecked my Achilles tendon. It got very, very tight. (Which makes it vulnerable to tears and rupture, apparently.) Also, my arch collapsed in only that foot. My surgeon just kept pushing PT, though didn't let me start it until I was cleared to walk and then acted like I should have started it yesterday, even though I'd spent weeks pushing for it. 🙄 I missed out on some helpful manual therapy before being cleared for PT and weight bearing. Anyway, the surgeon kept basically saying the PT was in charge of what I could do, and the PT wanted the surgeon to be in charge. I told everyone about the arch issues and the plantar fasciitis and all the weird things going on. (Again, the repair was great. Tight, but pain free and no signs of issues and no more sublocating.) So the PT kept focusing on just the surgery specific rehab, ignoring or brushing off my new concerns, and the surgeon kept rushing me out the door and telling me to keep doing the PT. Now, a year later, I'm still stretching out my Achilles, especially since I strained it 4.5 months post op and went back to non weight bearing and then weeks with the boot and a heel lift wedge to gradually ease my tendon back to neutral, despite trying to only do what I was cleared to do. Instructions unclear. And, all of the things gone wrong seem to have caused Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome, so I have a lot of nerve pain. I'm working with a different podiatrist for the current pain because I got tired of trying to convince my surgeon that I wasn't okay. I maxed my PT benefits for the year. Everyone's body is different, you're a lot younger than I am, and you have a different doctor. I am not sharing this to discourage you from the surgery, but to encourage you to be very careful with your recovery and PT afterward, and to fight hard if something doesn't feel right. Most surgeries take about a year to feel fully normal and healed.

Got my ankle checked by my ortho because I've had sprains before and my right ankle looks weird compared to my left. My ortho said I have this. Thanks for making this vid so I know what is going on. I don't feel pain at the ankle, though sometimes it get tight.

I’ve been able to pop my tendon in an out rapidly since I was a kid, I didn’t know it wasn’t normal. I’ve sprained his ankle So many times and a couple of them were really bad, and I finally just had surgery on it. Also have a ligament tears in other places of the same foot because of the repeated spraining!

I was in 9th grade(15 years) was playing football when this happened to me but I ignored it and got used to this and now I am 24 but now I want to cure it . Should I go for surgery or is can be cured without surgery too?? Also from the same time period my hand writing became worse and worse and fingers get stiff when I write and start shaking if I apply too much force on the pen 😔 is this also due to peroneal tendon dislocation?? Or both of these have nothing to do with eachother?? Plzz do reply if anyone knows the solution would be highly obliged ❤

I had this for close to 10 years! No pain when it dislocated normally but extreme pain if it dislocated while doing any type of plyometric/explosive movement. Had it looked at and the surgeon said it was by far the worst case he'd seen in his career. Definitely get it looked at as in a lot of cases physiotherapy cannot fix this, only surgery.

sort of freaked out, was sprinting and rolled the foot in heavy and hard on the ankle... knew it was injured but continued to jog back to my place... massively swelled, left weird purple bruising all the way from my tibula -- above my ankle and it bruised the side of the bottom of my foot from heel to tarsals, no clue why... it doesn't hurt only ever so tender.. went out to for two all night drinking and dancing events... it was bad the first night but after 10 or so drinks it was hardly noticiable unless I was moving same day it happened, swelling is pretty much gone on day 3 and am doing jogging (not sprinting) not really noticable just very very dull tenderness that is more making me think just don't go hard.. however now I am feeling and hearing clocking and feeling the ? tendon go up and down a little about 10cm above the ankle from where the bruising but only if I fully extend my toes up. I'm not really feeling loss of strength, is there no pain associated with this type of injury after day 1 or 2??? anyway to coax the tendon back into possition with massage. i notied applying preassure to the bone tendon area caused it not to pop. Is this something that could happen with only a pull like level one or is this only happening on a level 3 rupture or level 2 tear. It feels more bruised than as bad as this sounds. cause I just don't feel like I have a rupture or tear because I still ave the strength tore my should ac level 2 on both shoulders over years with totally loss of use.. this doesn't feel debilitating. no real loss of strength or anything. will this effect deadlifting? Like does support just fail with this type of thing? also clicks movin it the opposite side it rolled so it rolled inward if I fully extend my foot outward I feel a click too.. no pain it feels relieving not painful, like cracking knuckles. also the tear felt like it occured at the midfood or strain// but the clicking is happening above the ankle on the opposite end of the tendon.. obvious it was pulled /stretched but can this happen at 3 points and not be debilitating?? does it ever self reposition as it heals.. anyway to use massage or applying pressure to rehab back into the groove by forcing it in? I read you need to keep your ankel mobile after a sprain.. to keep full mobility... but the therapy for this includes putting it in a cast?? Wouldn't that result in loss of mobility? Am I self miss diagnosing??? like should I actually feel injured rather than just bruised with this and clicking if I extend my foot in any direction full flex or contraction position == also I feel it is easier to stretch with the injured foot, my uninjured foot feels like it has less range motion than the injured one. but hte injured one wats to rest a little more palm of foot lower when laying on my back so back of foot is more the bottom of hte heel rather than the back of the heel on the uninjured.

Just looking for any buzz words I can use with the doctors to convince them to help me.

I think I may have this. But my ankle or the area does not get inflamed or is painful. Could it be something else? I am 46 years old now, and actually had this cracking ankle all the way back when I was 24 yrs old. It didn't hurt then either. It went away or would just show-up from time to time. Now it seems to happen 55-60% of the time when I count 20 steps. It clicks 10-13 times out of the 20. Need to figure out what is is. People look at me funny when walking and running along the street. lol!

@@amirulasraf yes I did in Japan with a team of 2 doctors and it was much more comfortable than I imagined. First they gave me a spinal tap which was done behind my back which gave a funny tickling at my spine but not painful at all. Then my legs get numb after a while, just like the electrifying feeling in your legs when you stand up after sitting in a bad posture that block the blood flow, but this time it lasts much longer. Then they start the work while I was totally awake, which took around 1 hour. Overall that was a nice experience, maybe because of the good Japanese hospital service. After the surgery it's important that you keep lying down as instructed by the doctor until the spinal fluid pressure recovers otherwise its lack of pressure will make you dizzy. I remember how worried I was so if you need any info just tell me

@jakethompson58433 ай бұрын
Standard in the UK is 6 weeks in a cast with no weight-bearing, 6 weeks in a brace with partial weight-bearing. So I would say walking after 10 days is very odd, after 10 days I was in absolute agony most of time even with painkillers so walking was 100000% out of the question

If it doesn’t cause you pain to move it, or instability, you’re fine. My left one I’ve been able to move like that for years, since early childhood - it clicks when i run, and I know other runners who have the same situation. If you hurt it and now it does that and causes you discomfort, I’d see a doctor

whoa. i been looking into how to do this for myself. i climb indoor boulders a lot, and i have this in my left ankle. if they say the subluxation is the tendon coming out of the groove, then can't you try to get it back in place? this is assuming that the retinacula (the strap thing that holds the tendons in place) didn't get torn, which i don't know, i don't feel any pain nor feel anything torn. what did you do to force it back over the bone? im trying to manipulate the tendon with my fingers but it aint easy
@someone-ji2zb Жыл бұрын
I know this is a bit of an older comment, but if your tendon is popping out of place even for a moment, then it is causing gradual damage over time. Needs to be addressed no matter what, if you haven't already
