For every boss that gives me trouble, I go full health build with Joni's Blessing and other health charms. That forces me to focus on dodging and learning attack patterns instead of trying to heal. And with 22 masks you can take a lot of damage before dying, which gives you a lot of time on every attemp to just observe the boss and get familiar with everything he does.

Pure Vessel still feels like Nightmare King Grimm on crack because he has more attacks... PV also feels quicker than NKG, might just be me tho. Either way, these two bosses are really hard. Patterns can be gotten is just still really flipping hard. PV also feels harder in this sense, NKG feels like he has a much bigger down time between each attacks so you do get a brief moment to regroup if you just screwed up and started panicking. PV is like no I am going to keep going at your face most of the time. AR is another story tho, that is just pure hell. One simply does not dodge 3 attacks at the same time... Nor does one simply dodge mach 5 homing light balls of death. Also BS last phase of luminus infini is just not cool.

Thanks for the shape of unn tip, I couldnt've done this without it! Shape of unn plus deep focus turns every bats attack into focus time, you dodge the whole attack and you heal for two! I opted not for quick focus cuz i found you finish the heal too soon to dodge the whole attack so you either hold the botton down longer wasting precious soul, or you stand back up just in time to get hit by the fourth bat. I finally finished the fight with shape of unn, deep focus, stalwart shell, grubsong, and of course grimmchild. I was mainly using stalwart shell and grubsong cuz I felt I was still learning the fight and was planning on eventually switching them out for the strength charm, but I got an attempt where I was on fire dodging almost every attack perfectly and eventually I just pinged him down. I know this is a year late, but I really, really appreciate this guide. I got into Hollow Knight extremely late and I struggled hard on most of the fights, but this one took me forever. This guide motivated and taught me most of this attacks, and I finally defeated him after a 2 hour play session. I've now gotten much more consistent with it, and I am currently working on beating that cursed 5th pantheon. So, thank you!! Keep it up :)

One thing I really liked about this guide was how you kept saying “-for me.” You know that everyone does things differently. Personally, I just used Quick Slash, Unbreakable Strength, Shaman Stone, and Grubsong. I usually pogo’d the Dive Dash and Uppercut, and with the Dive Dash I went with Grimm’s momentum.

This is probably my favorite boss fight in all the games I've played. I lost for about 100 times on the switch until I finally beat him. Now i just wanna fight this guy over and over. He seemed so fast at first but once I got used to his moves and speed, the fight felt like a dance. If you're not used to his speed it feels like you want to keep up with and chase him, but there are times when you have to slow down your movement to get a window to attack. Never rush into him; he's great in punishing overly eager attackers. This was a performance indeed.

That would be very awesome. I also think it'd be really cool if after you killed the Nightmare King, the Grimmchild was still a bat, (looking cooler of course,) but could perform more than 1 attack. Like, maybe they could make a small flame pillar to hit an enemy, or shoot fire bats!

@neurosae3 жыл бұрын
I took around 30 tries, and I definitely found what did and didn't work. This playstyle focuses around being able to take risks much more easily. First of all, the strategies. Stutter walking was infinitely useful on flame pillars, but make sure to not go too slow. At the end, around the last pillar, try to upstrike Grimm 3 times, whilst still moving. For both the uppercut and drill attacks, I found pogoing on NKG to be essential. You should pogo during his dash, and dash if he is doing the drill attack. If you don't hit him, feel free to double jump. For the Fire Bats attack, jump, dash between bats 2 and 4, and double jump over bat 4. Be sure you aren't too close to Grimm as the bats are spawning, though, since bat 3 will easily hit you on its way up. After dodging, attack Grimm as carelessly as you want for the rest of the duration of the attack. During all these attacks, never get too close, especially during Fire Bats. During Cloak Spikes, find a safe spot ASAP, and immediately start healing, only once. For the Pufferfish attack, circle jump. Your health and soul don't matter during this attack. Some charms I found to be useful were Stalwart Shell, Quick Focus, and Mark of Pride. First, Stalwart Shell. The Nightmare King is designed with a "rhythm," and getting hit breaks this rhythm, and you will get hit over, and over, and over again. Stalwart Shell helps you get back into this rhythm, and you can get back into the rhythm. Next, Quick Focus. This is very simple. You can heal more safely during floor spikes, and you can heal three times during the stagger. Finally, Mark of Pride. This helps you pogo on Grimm during his dashes, and you can hit him with less risk of him teleporting away during Fire Bats. You can use almost any one slot charm, except dream catcher. I hope I could help anyone stuck, and remember to try again and again until you succeed.

This boss is frustrating when you first fight him. But once your reaction time is good enough and you can recognize each attack, it is easily one of the funnest fights in the game. The pacing feels great and each attack is able to be punished to a considerable level. It dosent feel like bullshit to die against him unlike other bosses. The fact of knowing that you progressing (Pufferfish every 25%) is great and shows that you are making progress.

Your discussions about bosses are THE BEST guides I've seen. You're awesome ;)
