Had this soak for an hour or so and scrubbed it up. Unfortunately the belts are light grey so they won't look perfect, but it's almost. Hope it works out well for you!

Thanks man, I used a bucket with warm water and oxyclean instead. Let sit for an hour and agitated it every 10m. Looks brand new and now retracts easily! So annoying getting in and out of the car and having it not retracting properly. Much better now.

Soaking makes the most sense. Once soaked, scrubbed and washed, I would dump the soapy dirty water, and use bucket of clean water to rinse it.

Ya’ll!!!! I’m amazed at how well this worked! I did a color run and forgot how nasty I was so I put my seatbelt on and got red powder all over it 🤦🏻‍♀️ My seatbelt looked like I got shot. I did everything he said minus the hair dryer (I used a microfiber towel and let it air dry over night) and I’m so happy with the results!!!

Great method which works! I just used Mr. Clean Magic Eraser on beige seatbelts and it worked like a charm with minimum effort and time!!! Just lock them in place afterwards until they dry and touch up spots if needed! I would try an inconspicuous spot first

Good video! Thanks for doing it. How can one clean out the part/latch that you insert the buckle into? I've tried brushes, various vacuums, and even putting double sided tape on the end of a thin stick like a popsicle stick and shoving it down in the opening. Any dish soap should work fine. I believe I was using a GoPro Hero Session for most of this along with a Nikon D5300. Everything I film now is on an iPhone 12 Pro Max.

Good question! You might be able to add a bit of vinegar or lemon juice to the soap solution to see if that helps to clean it up. Either one or both together won't damage the seat belts, so might be worth a shot when you try it with this process. Hope that helps, let me know if it works!

Personally I haven't used that product before, but checking online it seems to be an odor-free and indoor product, so I don't see it necessarily causing a problem if you added it into the bucket.

If you live in a hot climate it'll go quicker. I did this method on my S-Class a few months ago and it only took about an hour, I let the belt soak for about 30 minutes and dried it out immediately after with a hair dryer. I left the belt out of the car a while after just to let it air out.

Great Video! The Number One reason a seat belt will not retract? A dirty, stiff belt! I like the dish soap method the best for removing grease, dirt, food, etc. Some use degreaser, but that can be corrosive and hazardous to your skin.

Depending on how wide the seat belt return is on the B-pillar you might be able to stuff a towel in between it and the belt to prevent it from moving. If you really have nothing to clamp it with you might be able to pinch it with the window by closing it carefully, or even the door.

I used KRUD Krutter and a bucket and plastic gloves and a water extractor. Rubbed my hands across the belt in the bucket and the dirt just came off so easy brown seat belt went right back to grey.

We've used this method twice now without any issue, but you could certainly soak the belt a second time in clean water to get as much of the soap off as possible. We've found by scrubbing and drying you won't have any noticeable soap residue left over. We haven't drive this car much since filming this video but we haven't had any issues with the belts since cleaning.

On my E39 the previous owner had folded the seat belt somehow and it has a permanent ish crease in the middle, making it harder to retract. I tried wetting that and keeping it pressed flat. Some small improvement, but still not great.

Our go-to products are always from Meguiar's, we've found them to be better than a lot of the other off-the-shelf products out there. Aside from their cleaning product we haven't done much to condition the seats here, truthfully they aren't in the best condition to begin with. The previous owner's kids crayon'd on the back seats and you can still see a bit of it, and the driver's seat needs to be replaced again, it's not great. Ideally we'd like to replace the front seats with sport ones, and get a new set of bottoms for the rear.

Perpetual Radio Networks Ok I use McGuire's also seems to work pretty good. I even sit on a super soft blanket to keep them as nice as possible. Unfortunately they still ended up looking worn but still good for someone sitting in the chair for 250k miles. However, I did come across two slightly used front seats at the junkyard. They were $50 each (steal) and lightly faded from the sun sitting out in the yard. No tears or anything so I was pretty happy. Also came across black seats that looked brand new but didnt match my interior. Maybe you will have some luck there, especially for miscellaneous interior parts. Also how miles did you have on your car when the guides went out? Ive heard 175k but still has yet to happen thankfully

I haven't had them done since owning the car, and I bought it at just under 200k km. Unfortunately I made the biggest mistake anyone could when buying a used luxury car, and that was not having the service history. From what I can tell the guides haven't been done, but there's no real way to know. So far though with the new battery the car has been starting up flawlessly.

i just took mine out of the car and washed in a bucket that way, put it over on radiator overnight and it was completely dry in the morning, reinstalled it, it was like new, i guess if you got fancy car like BMW with all the computers in, you would get a lot of errors disconnecting the belt from the car which sucks

As long as you're sure you re-installed it correctly this method should be fine, although personally since it's a critical piece of safety hardware I wouldn't remove it.

My friend has a 1972 nova and it has bench seats so it has three sets of lap seat belts in the front bench. Will this work as good as it did for your car or is there a better way/solution?

It should work just as well. I had a 1983 Ford LTD Crown Victoria as my first car, it too had the bench seat in the front with lap only belts. I'd try moving the metal buckle as far towards the seat as possible and only soaking the belt itself. I might recommend finding a shorter and wider bucket in order to prevent any tipping over, as dumping a bucket of water into a car like that will be impossible to clean up.

Had to wash my passenger seat belt because my wife had a fun night and barfed all over it. Pickles and wine...yuck. After washing it and scrubbing it...I'd say number one thing...ALWAYS make sure you give your seatbelt time to DRY before letting it spool back in place! I had a old suv someone detailed for us and washed the belts, but didn't give it time to dry and let the belts spool back in place The car became undriveable with mold spawning on the belts, dashboard and the seats. It was ruined...this barf time around...let the belts dry for 3 days in the garage, windows down and a fan blowing on them. Also hit them lightly with a heat gun every couple hours and let them sit in the sun in the driveway with the windows down. Again..make sure you let the belts dry %100! Or you will have a far bigger issue then a dirty seat belt.

hi prn....great video....i ran my own car detailing biz for 15 years....i have a tip if you want your cream seat belts looking 100% clean like new again....that works much better than traditional car detailing degreasing/wet vac methods...scrubbing/ rag rubbing methods Tip: unbolt bottom floor bolt of driver seat belt...wet your car to protect it from overspray...pull seat belt and buckle out of car and keep pulling all of the belt out of the reel till it stops...then close door on seat belt to stop it retracting...leaving 7 feet of belt and buckle outside of vehicle spray both sides of belt with " acid based" engine degreaser (not solvent based aerosol degreaser)...spray neat (un dilutted)....wetting car prior protects car from degreaser overspray... ...then...(this is a must) blast both sides of belt...with the strongest high pressure water wash you can find...using a late night coin operated car wash is ok...or electric high pressure water gun...garden hose will not work it can be tricky holding 7 feet of belt at the front of the car and holding the gun at the same time...but possible...or get someone to help hold the belt...as you blast it clean with water jet... you will see the dirt get blasted out with water...leaving belt looking 100% brand new again open door...flip belt 180 deg...then close door again...and then stretch belt out again and blast other side of belt... tip: rest the belt along side of car panels as you are blasting it with water...and it will keep belt still...and stop it from flapping away from the water blasting make sure to move the buckle too down the belt...and blast where the buckle was... blast belt closely...4 inches or less away with gun...to obtain best results..it wont damage the belt...any fraying on belt that shows up on edges...was already there...but was kept hidden by dirt.. ..thoroughly blast belt with water till 100% of all dirt is removed... tip: if you blast un evenly...or not enough...you will notice uneven dirt blemish left behind when belt dries..you will see where the water pressure was not adequate enough and it will leave noticable un cleaned dirt behind....if so...repeat process...and blast again till its uniformly 100% clean...after a few belts...you will understand what i mean...and you will become better at blasting belt immaculately...and thoroughly rebolt seat belt...belt is nylon...will dry fast...hand dry if prefered...and leave belt out of reel if prefered till dry...customers didnt mind if belt was a little wet when car got delivered.....as they knew how dirty belt was previously...and were extremely pleased with the like new results this "water blasting" technique guarentees makes even the most filthiest cream seat belts look 100% new again...better than any wet vac method...and removes 100% of chemical residue too which may deteriorate belt in the long term....removes 100% of smells too.....no scrubbing needed either...only 1 cleaning product needed (degreaser)...water pressure does 99% of the work i did 100s of belt cleans like this nearly every day when i contracted at Mercedes Benz dealership for many years...results were immaculate....guaranteed to make belt several shades lighter and brighter than any other method

I don't feel that I have, no. Mind you I haven't owned many cars so far, but the previous two cost me around the same to maintain, the previous being a 1990 Honda Accord, and before that a 1983 Ford LTD Crown Victoria.
