Always great to get home from work to find you've posted a video. I'm looking forward to the new Tom Ford, although they often make me feel like I've eaten a four-course meal. Which scent did you end up wearing to the cinema? There's nothing quite like sitting in the darkness luxuriating in your own sillage!
@Persolaise6 жыл бұрын
Thanks very much for the comment. I love the four-course meal description. I know what you mean. I ended up wearing a bit more of the Ummagumma; maybe a bit pedestrian towards the end, but still enjoyable.

The hair, the shirt, the voice... I'm afraid I'll be bi-curious at episode 12. Let's do the classics, love the show.

You could do scents based on fragrance family, would be so interesting to get your thoughts on them. And the longer your videos are, the better! P.S. Love your shirt!

Hi! I’ve been “micro-binge” watching these episodes over the last week. Loving it! Sniffing classics is a great idea. Would also love to see an episode done as a KZbin live stream, so that us non-Facebook users could take part.

Alex W. Micro binge watching! I love that. And thank you so much: that’s really kind of you to let me know. I hadn’t considered a live Facebook broadcast. Excellent idea! I’ll look into how it works 😊

Oh, don't even know where to start, this video was full of good things. -- I'm waiting for Villa M since Paul Schütze first mentioned it in Instagram, and I love how your assessment matched the intended concept! Now I need to know more about Quadra M (I really like Behind the Rain btw). -- Your comparison of niche and teenagers is so spot on. I am in Lampblack today and have a sample of Ummagumma waiting at home, and imho Bruno Fazzolari is right on the edge of grown up scents with a personality. -- And then thanks for the enchanting quote "pebble in your shoe" by Rodrigo Flores-Roux, I'll remember that and will re-quote it from now on!

Thank you SO MUCH for watching and for the comment :-) Lampblack is pretty good, isn't it? And Flores-Roux is a genius, in so many ways.

Woo! New content! I think many of us would be open to hearing your thoughts on not only new releases, but rediscovered and well known classics as well..and i complerely agree with you on the press releases! Another idea..Maybe you can conduct a poll and let viewers choose/vote the top 3 new releases you feature? Because you mentioned the almond theme you picked up on, perhaps you can also feature fragrances that hilight a certain note? Possibilities are endless!
@Persolaise6 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for these great ideas. Yes, perhaps a poll is something I could do in future. As you say: so many possibilities :-)

Just before you said "Jetsons in the 1960s," I was thinking that it looked like something out of "2001: A Space Odyssey." It's certainly got that Kubrick-esque aesthetic thing going on.

I love the length of your videos! An aside: I also discovered your videos around episode 7 and binge watched all of them in order to catch up to the current time. Anyway, I think your videos should stay at least 50 minutes in length or more! For me, what makes your videos different and refreshing is that you are unabashedly you; you are chatty! You get into each perfume without getting so caught up with how long the camera has been on; I love it. It is uniquely you. I think it helps us all feel as if we are truly sitting with you enjoying perfume as if we were sitting together in real life. I say keep the time length the same! As for content, I agree with that which others have already expressed in that I don't mind if some of the perfumes you feature are classics and have thus been already under your nose. I would enjoy an episode on classics! I also would love a brand focused video. I always enjoy learning about new houses and the range of perfumes they offer. I am excited for Love At First Scent in 2018! :) P.S. Concerning Press Releases... I agree with you. I think the press release is a necessary addition. As is very important to any artwork, it is therefore equally important to perfumery to consider the artist and their intent as well as their inspiration. Personally, after having viewed the first episode, I assumed that (the format of giving your opinion and reading the press release) was the whole point of Love At First Scent; to bring out the art in perfumery. All of that to say this: I don't think increasing the number of perfumes and foregoing the press release will be good. I think if in one episode you happen to only discuss 5 and in another you discuss 10 then so be it!

Wow, so much to respond to :-) Thanks for taking the time to write. I'm so touched that you caught up with all the previous episodes. That's amazing, thank you. And thanks also for the compliments. I guess you can't help but be yourself when you're doing a live stream :-) I think it definitely looks as though I'm going to have to do the odd classic now and then. Finally, thanks so much for your thoughts on the press releases. I am inclined to keep reading them, I must say. I just find them quite helpful.

I would love a brand overview, especially for Tom Ford. I like the hour long format, they could be longer even and I'd be happy. I'd also love advance notice so we can smell along.
@Persolaise6 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for watching and leaving a comment. I do always give advance notice, but that relates to when the video goes out live on Facebook... which of course means that you have to have a Facebook account and that you have to follow the Persolaise Facebook pages... and I know some people on KZbin don't like using Facebook :-) But anyway, I take your point about a brand-specific episode. I'll have to see what I can come up with. Thanks again for your support :-)

Great, thanks for sharing. I'm dying to sample Untitled, Ummagumma, and Feu Secret by Fazzolari, but have to wait till March as I'm back home in Calcutta for a few months. Lampblack is an innovative and interesting scent, but personally I dislike it. You've tried Au Dela Narcisse? That one was perhaps the pick of the lot (for me) by Fazzolari (but generally most of his stuff is good). I have low expectations for the Tom Ford as I find them usually to be 'front-loaded' with underwhelming dry downs.
@Persolaise6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. No, I don't think I did manage to try the Narcisse version of Au Dela. Front-loaded is actually a good term for quite a few Tom Fords, I agree. And as for Calcutta... I hope to be there soon-ish myself. Where should I go perfume shopping? :-)
@anindya20466 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late reply. I'm afraid there isn't much around these parts, but you can perhaps try the shop of ML Ramnarain (no affiliation), they have few attars and some essential oils.

I wanted to like Vanille Fatale, but felt it was simply the boring second cousin to the ever-popular Tobacco Vanille (TF Marketing Dept: "Let's ride this money train to the bitter end!" Perfumers/Noses: "On it!".) Not sure I smelled the almonds, though I'll have to sniff my sample again. And if I do smell almonds, I'm not positive I will make the association between those and the ones from Hypnotic Poison, which were far more play dough-y to me, less pure almond. But then again, what the hell do I know.
@Persolaise6 жыл бұрын
What the hell do you know? Exactly what your nose tells you! ;-) It sounds to me as though you're very good at articulating your responses to perfumes. So don't worry about finding Vanille Fatale 'boring'. My own impression of it has changed somewhat since this video was filmed: I like the opening, but I'm not sure I find the drydown especially interesting. Thanks for taking the time to comment, by the way. It's contributions like yours that keep the discussion flowing :-)

My pleasure! Watching your videos and reading your writing is a true pleasure. I love the snarkiness of your writing style, and how open you are to conversation with your commenters. Be careful, though. Much more of THAT egalitarianism and you'll lose your moniker of Le Snob.
@Persolaise6 жыл бұрын
Ha! :-) Well, first of all, I never chose the Snob name. That was all down to the publishers of my book: they chose the name for the whole series of luxury guides they released. But anyway, thanks so much for your kind comments about my work. And I honestly don't mind egalitarianism. Okay, I do accept and acknowledge the importance of expertise. For instance, I would pay more attention to the views of a film critic who watches 3 movies a day than to those of a non-professional who watches 3 movies a year. So I don't mind placing myself in the position of an expert. But having said that, I fully believe that people's personal responses to perfumes shouldn't be discounted either :-)
@knittingdoula6 жыл бұрын
You are absolutely correct about the role of the expert within the purview of daily life. I think that role has been blurred somewhat by KZbin and the "guru" movement. What I continue to appreciate are well-educated, eloquent experts who can open up ANY subject for me (though perfumery is the preferable subject). I would imagine that to be a perfume critic is to be in a near-constant state of annoyance with the offerings available to critique. So much dreck, so much monotony, so many posers thinking that they're creating the next Chanel No. 5 (when what they really need is a more solid education in chemistry). I suppose the glimmer of hope lies in both constantly refining one's smelling skills and finding the occasional rare gem. Perhaps, if you're a better person than I, you find something good to say about each perfume. If so, I'm envious. :-)
@Persolaise6 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for your comment. I'm enjoying this discussion :-) Yes, the role of the expert is vital, in my opinion. And much-maligned at the moment. I think many of us forget that there's a marked difference between an opinion and an expert view. But as for being in a state of annoyance... actually, no, I'm not. I always think the next perfume I'm going to smell will be wonderful. Of course, that doesn't always happen, but the anticipation - the sense that this could be an absolute gem - is great. Yes, I do *try* to find something good to say about each scent, but I don't often succeed :-)
