Persona 2 had a combo spell system that rewarded you for actually developing a bunch of persona for your party. Everyone in your party could also use multiple personas but weren't Wild Cards, they could only use Persona that were close to their Tarot. The game also was balanced in that your starting unique persona were useful the entire game, unlike say Izanagi and Arsene, which you have to build up from scratch with skill cards to keep them relevant.

@@nazze1821 A lot of Persona have unique skills that are worth it regardless. You're going to get a lot of Tarot cards anyway, so you may as well explore the list. For example, Baal has a gigantic beam attack that doesn't combo, but it does huge, rare type damage to every enemy. Loads of persona have weird skills because they went wild with skills, using the old SMT1 and 2 format where most demons had "extra" abilities unique to them. And since you have 5 party members, you can stick single skill persona onto your 5th guy while your other two pairs combo off. There's also just a bunch of unique combos using various persona that are related to eachother. The game's a little easy as a result, so take your time and explore the world for weird stuff. Don't speed through it TOO fast, you know.

...uh...how do you get Persona 2 not being too dark? Innocent Sin literally ends with the main characters failing at their task to save the world. Eternal Punishment is about how the solution from the end of IS not only left all of those people sad and lonely, but also is so fragile that just remembering a time where they had each other WILL blow up the planet again. Mind you, I love the P2 duology because of how far it's willing to go, but it is hands down the darkest game in the Persona franchise.

Rebochan I think he meant in comparison to the other MegaTen games, almost all of which are darker than the Persona games. Granted, the P2 duology does come close to matching them (and may have exceeded in certain areas), but there's no fight between Law and Chaos in the Persona games, which have torn whole dimensions and timelines apart.

The Innocent Sin boss Theme is really hyper active and feels a little panicked to reflect how the main cast of Innocent Sin feels in a boss battle, meanwhile Eternal Punishment has a much more calmer yet still incredibly intense tune to it which makes it also fit very well with how the main cast of Eternal Punishment feels in a boss battle. Both tracks are really damn good too.

List of other games with good music: Devil summoner 1 and 2 Devil survivor 1 and 2 (both remake version 3ds) SMT 1-4 and SMT 4 apocalypse Last bible series Etrain odyssey series Trauma Center series Persona 2 innocent is only half of Persona 2 theres also its counterpart Persona 2 Eternal punishment heavily underrated (nice guitar in its osts) Catherine Fullbody Even with all of that there are countless and countless amount of remixes of most of these songs that are even more underrated than the ones i mentioned, you have to really look for them though.

I've never even played Innocent sin but I don't think any of the boss battle themes slam this hard in P5, as much as that games soundtrack rocks. That breakdown into one of the hardest guitar solos I've ever heard to that elation on the final notes and back into the main melody. It's musical bliss. I love how the battle themes in innocent sin also actually make you feeling you are fighting for your life. Shame this didn't come across to P5 royal like the normal battle theme did, it'd make the minibosses way more intimidating!

It highlights the tonal difference between Innocent Sin and P5. P5 is a rather upbeat game about struggling against the unjust world and beibg rewarded with a better world. Innocent Sin is a tragedy focused on how badly not moving on from your past can hurt you. Eternal Punishment(the sequel to Innocent Sin) instead takes the mature angle of regret and is about how you can move on and overcome your past no matter how painful it is. P5 you're a teen who was wronged and sets out to better the world, P2 you're a teen/adult who just has the world out to kick you in the face due to forces beyond your understanding.

@@jouheikisaragi6075 You're kind of overselling how dark the tone of Innocent Sin is, there's a character who is called "undies boss" fairly often, says "You want my autograph" to open battles sometimes, and runs from battles saying "No encore tonight, honey". The main character is famous for being able to perfectly mimic motorcycle and jet engines sounds. It's more tragic overall than P5 for certain, but it's still rather lighthearted and silly throughout. Really, I'm not sure if that's much darker outside of the ending; Persona 5 quickly gets to a character being raped and attempting suicide as a result.

Undie Boss is an anorexic due to fatshaming, the rumour shit is a good way to talk about how easy it is to feed misinformation, we have literal racism being pointed out, Tatsuya is not just known for motorcycle memes, he's literally popular for no reason when he's probably the shyest of the characters given how reserved he is. P2 knows how to laugh, but it's not ashamed of being very dark in retrospect. P5 is all in your face and it just makes the laughs feel stilted.

The only reason why I couldn't finish P2 despite found it to be very damn good of an RPG, was pretty much the random encounter. That is all. I understand about technical limitations at the time, origins and all of that. But I always hated that concept (plus with how high chance this specific game had) with burning passion regardless of what game, what series and how good the game was. Every persona game has remixes from at least one of the first three games, P3, in particular, had a whole s.link based on P2, P5 has references out the ass, costumes, music, literally brings back features from the old games AND brings the Persona Series back deeper into it's roots story and world building wise, the dancing games bring forth not only costumes but music and remixes as well. Lastly, every game has the blue butterfly, it may be small but that's literally the biggest reference to Philemon (forgive me for potentially misspelling his name) we have. Aside from not porting the games or making obvious cameos, how have they been neglected? Can we stop this trend of saying that Atlus neglects the first Three Persona games and just admit that they have no real impact on the modern persona games (Hell, with P2 Ending, the events of the first three games may or may not have even happened for the Modern era which explains a lot)

In Phil's defense, he probably feels elevating and empowering the various Champions of the Velvet Room, over the years, and having Igor and Crew assist them in their battles against the darkness, is a form of "interfering" -on the side of good / order / light. :-)

Jumpco1 I’ve kinda wondered about that. I’d love a remake of P1 or 2 but I’d want it to be true to the originals. I feel like if you made a game featuring hitler these days either people wouldn’t care or it would be a disaster. Maybe they just don’t want to take the chance.

xXWrathX they’d ruin it by giving it the type of encounters used in the later Persona games, or adding that dreadful Social Link feature and making it a dating sim. Hitler wouldn’t even be a problem, they’d likely just chuck sunnies and a coat on him again and keep him looking like a badass.

VladNorris P1 and P2 were just of the SMT bunch, common non-unique games. The Social Links feature changed the series and kind of made the Persona series to stand out. Digital Devil, Soul Hacker, Shin Megami Tensei, Megami Tensei, Devil Survivor (even though the gameplay is kinda different) and many many more were all the same: demons, dispair, death, etc... Persona 3 and 4 were more like youth, hanging out with friends, to have feelings; and in the other side, shadows and personas, all of them being jungian psychology. But of course, that's my point of view.

Well, considering I honestly prefer the darker take on the series, this wasn't beneficial. Persona feels a little too much like the generic non SMT RPG games out there. I can see how that makes them distinctive from other SMT games, but I feel them too toned down. Seriously, Persona 4 feels like a generic Shounen anime.

actually, he wasn't very emo, he's more aloof and introverted according to what you can choose to do and say. He is anything BUT emo, which denotes "unenthusiasm and melodrama" Also, adrogeny does not mean "gayfaggot" either. While P3's summoning does involve pointing a gun to yourself and pulling the trigger, it connect back to theme of P3 (accepting the fact of death), not to mention its clear they don't just add that in for its own sake; Koro's evoker is a collar while Aigis' is presumably built in, as well as Takaya summoning his like a more painful/forced version of the P1, P2 and P4 casts

TheSlammurai I already know all that. It wasn't really stated as much as implied. In P1 and P2, the gang's Personas first come out when they're in danger of being killed by demons. Then there are the situations presneted in P3 and P4, and finally it was confirmed fear and self preservation is necessary for summoning a Persona in Labrys' P4A story by one of the Scientists. I was arguing against using the Evoker as evidence that "P3 MC is emo" As far as I can tell he only fits that description when it comes to appearance.

Fire puppies You mean Evokers? No, they weren't a nod to JoJo, they changed it to guns because the it fitted the theme more, it was originally going to be Tarot Cards like Persona 4. (actually even Persona 1 and 2 too, they don't show them while summoning but Personas are still stored as tarot cards)
