I was working as a game reviewer when Atlus sent in the press copy of Persona 3. No one on the staff wanted to cover it, so it was basically assigned to me. I wasn't interested in it; I played fighting and action games, not long, convoluted JRPGS. But it quickly changed my perspective about the genre. The theming, characters, modern setting, soundtrack... It was all so good. When Persona 4 was offered to me to review a couple of months before its release, I immediately jumped on it because I knew Atlus was on to something awesome. I'm still so grateful to be one of the first Western reviewers to cover those games.

If we use that as a why to place the game, then we can say 2, and by extension 1, takes place in the same universe because 2 was reference a bit in 3 through the name of the 2nd P2 game being dropped and your's and the teacher's names in the rpg you play are 2 of the main characters. And if we go even farther 5 is even closer to the SMT games (even tho the series started as a spinoff of said games) since you can talk to demons, unlike in 3 and 4.

I loved Fuuka when I played the game, before P4, back in like 2007. I liked her storyline the best of all the girls, with Aigis' robot thing being second place only because I've seen other robots struggling with humanity story lines. Fuuka's bullying was interesting because it wasn't solved by her standing up for herself or one of the heroes coming in and dishing out justice. It happened because the girls knew what they did was wrong and believed they were getting a dose of karma. No one forced them to change directly, they simply realized they had done something horrible, and eventually became real friends with Fuuka. Besides that, I liked how she strove to be independent. Mitsuru was forced to be an adult because of her business family, Yukari had a dead dad and hates her mother (for little explained reason, despite me playing the game twice with her romance route I never really got why other than teen angst), which made Fuuka wanting to be helpful, reliable, and mature something different. I'm not saying her English voice was perfect, great, etc (though even then I think Yukari's is just as grating), but in terms of character growth and backstory, Fuuka was unique even among her cast. Although, I'd still say P3's cast are more interesting than all of P4's. P4 has some really high points, but I feel like they went for more of an average with that game. There are less valleys than P3 (low points of arcs, story, etc), but in exchange P4 never really soars, it just sort of hoovers over the baseline.

P3P was my first persona, one of the best games, no, experiences I've ever had, after the battle with Nyx, I felt all the members of SEES became truly a family, even if the MC dies it was a satisfying ending... Then many years later P3 FES was released in the PSN "a new chance to play that magnificent game and now with an epilogue episode? The Answer made me appreciate every character more tbh. It managed to show us their sides that were not visible before in the Journey. And yeah, Yukari was very whiny but would you expect her to act calm and collected after she lost another person in her life she'd displayed her trust and feelings to and had already been portrayed as internally the frailest of SEES?
