My favorite thing about Persona is how much of a connection I can have with the characters by the time credits roll. The game length isn't for everyone, but very few of the main stories feel like needless filler to me. I'm a big Xcom fan, so putting that style of combat into one of my favorite series through Persona 5 Tactica has me excited to play! I've gotten through half of Persona 4 in Japanese since I started learning, and think it would be a good experience to try a game I haven't played religiously. The family took priority during the holidays, so I wasn't able to get the game for myself yet.

My favorite thing about the persona series is how well they depict several themes in each game and the characters it presents. Im currently playing Persona 4 Arena Ultimax in Japanese (as you recommended in one of your videos), so i would really like an opportunity to play this game as well and and transfer some of the things I learned from one game to the other. Great videos!

Loved the ペルソナ5 タクティカ Lets Play video! I loved the Persona series for a long time now. It was always worth the money. Sometimes there are games which are very expensive and you only enjoy it once for 20 hours or so and never touch them again. With Persona its always a bit different. You can play it many many times over and over and find something new almost every time. Especially after the ペルソナ series got released on the Nintendo Switch my Japanese journey just got way more enjoyable in regards to gaming. The music, the characters, the japanese setting and the gameplay are just phenomenal. Sure there are some bits here and there which are not that enjoyable but that is nothing compared to the hours of gametime you get. Persona 5 Tactica would be great to keep on with the ペルソナ5 series. As I have just finished ペルソナ5 スクランブル. Matt in all honesty, I wish you the very best. I hope next year will be a even more successful year for you and your wife. The last couple of weeks must've been stressful for you. Much love. - Kreideberg | エネス

Regarding Persona, my favorite thing is just the vibe. Persona 3 hooked me in and was so different than anything I played. Felt like I was back in Tokyo again. I would definitely be trying out P5T to continue help out my Japanese learning

My favorite thing about the persona series is the feeling of captivation that I get when playing. When I start one of the games I’m just so absorbed in everything from the story, characters, music, gameplay, vibes, artstyle, etc. Makes for some of my favorite game experiences with P5 being my favorite. Love this for Japanese learning as it’s a game I want to play anyway so id be motivated to play and learn, especially since I struggle with slang so I think it would be a good challenge. Thank you game gengo!

Persona has been one of the reasons I'd started to learn Japanese. Apart from having superb stories and characters, the game taught me so much about the japanese festivals, culture, locations etc. So, it always has a special place in my heart. I didn't get a chance to check out Tactica yet, so would definitely like to have it and I hope it also helps me in my N2 journey !! :)

Persona series has such great aesthetics. I just got into Persona 4 as my first entry, and it's pretty different from a lot of the other rpgs i play. Feels like a visual novel, and I do like that a lot. Looking forward to getting into this one since I love trpgs. I've been using the "Learn Japanese to Survive" games to learn the basics so far, writing down all the vowels as i go and slowly learning words, while also tuning into japanese streams to slowly pick up the language again and I have to say learning through gaming has been the best choice to go with learning the language. Especially with something that has a lot of repetition.

Cool! I’ve wondered whether persona 5 would be good for learning Japanese. I’ve gone through a big chunk of persona 5 royal and persona 5 strikers in Japanese and I felt both were really beneficial for my Japanese since I have to read, listen and understand heaps of Japanese. The relationship between the phantom thieves would be my favourite thing of the series. I really like how well they fit each other, especially in strikers. I imagine tactica would be similar for the story in that regard and the Japanese version would probably be a good challenge for me too.

Persona has been very helpful for me for learning japanese. As you mentioned, the push to continue and replay logs do wonders. Most persona games being turn-based, also gives it a nice pace.

The Persona series has always been a thrilling series with great music, characters, good art style, and world building. I'm happy to see that with Persona 5 they continue to take it in interesting directions, even with these changes they're all unique and feel fresh to experience for a Japanese learner and gamer.

Persona 4 on ps2 was the first one I played & at the time it was the first JRPG I've played, & I deliberately chose it because it looked like it had more player agency and roleplaying elements more than the typical JRPG, as someone who only ever played western RPGs which took those ideas in the center of the game, but tbh I found myself in something much much different with Persona 4, cuz it really immerses you into the life of a student & it's world, maybe it was a linear adventure but it was a damn good one at that.
@GaliosUA10 ай бұрын
Gonna comment for the raffle ;) I think the main draw of the series was the character driven plot, unlike the original SMT series. Here you get fusing demons(personas) *and* a good plot? A perfect combo ;) So, as a the series fan and an SRPG genre fan - P5 Tactica looks like a match made in heaven.

I like using Persona games for language learning because of how versatile they are. So much of the language featured is rooted in everyday life, which is incredibly useful, but there are also splashes of archaic or fantasy language in them, which is beneficial when jumping into other, more fantasy-driven games since it helps to bridge the language gap. Most importantly, they're extremely entertaining, which is key to maintaining interest and motivation to keep going. VL

About whether or not you can play it in Japanese overseas: It seems that Persona 5 Tactica does have Japanese support on the PC Steam version and on Xbox, but NOT on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation. I've checked the store pages for all of them and looked in their language sections. It seems that you won't get Japanese subtitles or UI for PlayStation and Nintendo Switch; the PlayStation site it even says that Japanese voices are there but NOT any Japanese interface. The Xbox and Steam stores say that Japanese voices, subtitles and interface are supported. So if you want to buy a version overseas that does have full Japanese support, you can either choose the version on Xbox or Steam. As for experience with the Persona series, sorry, I only had the roughest start with the Persona series. I tried starting Persona with Persona Q on 3DS, because I only had Nintendo consoles at the time, and since it was a sequel to Persona 3 and 4, I was just so confused at everything. Then I've tried playing Persona 4 Golden... on Vita, and, well, the intro phase of the game just took too long for me so I never really started playing it. XD

I'm confused why all those games are put in 'elementary/upper elementary'... I mean, I think you're probably indicating that you can sort of understand the gist of the social banter between characters at that level while looking up words and trying not to get overwhelmed, but... All of those games have pretty sizable chunks of very advanced kanji sections where more technical stuff is going on and learners at that level will spend 20 minutes on a line of dialogue. Anyway, just curious about that. 13 Sentinals for instance is just a nonstop vocabulary lesson.
