One thing I always do when I get to my airline seat is pull out a pre-moistened wipe and wipe down my space. Headrest, chair, arm rest, tray table, you’d be shocked how dirty it all is. I sometimes have to use 3-4 wipes! Usually another traveler (seeing how gross everything is) will ask me for an extra wipe. I take additional wipes with me to the rest room. 😮. I take them to movie theaters too. Love your tips!!

Remember to slip a plastic grocery bag in with your spare clothes packed away inside your compression cube in your personal item bag. Use it to keep the worn items separated from the fresh clothes. It takes little room and if you don't use it for that, it usually comes in handy for something else.

If I travel, I will bring different sizes of the zip-lock bag. Normally will use the gallon size bag to pack my clean clothes and the sandwich size bag for my socks & undies. When going back, will use the gallon size bag to pack my dirty clothes, to separate my clean & dirty clothes. I find that hotel laundry plastic bag are a bit flimsy and might tear during the transit period. I will also store my toiletries into them so that there will be no spills inside my luggage bag. For shoes, normally will put them inside a compression bag covered with old newspaper & inside a plastic bag. The old newspapers really helps with drying my shoes when it is too wet. I also bring extra plastic grocery bag as my carry on trash bag if I can't find any trashcan in my surrounding.

I pack a small sandwich bag with all items I like in my pockets. You have to have empty pockets through TSA, then put the items in after the line, I have a gallon size bag with all the items I want in the seat pocket. Your napkin in the drink pocket hack is useful, but I would replace it with a dollar store bandana (I have dozens stacked in my cupboard because I use them for so many things, including gift wrap). Once you get to your hotel, rinse it out and hang on the shower rail to dry. They have dozens of uses on vacation, from a head cover when it's sunnier than expected, to a makeshift bag when you weren't intending to shop, to an emergency bandage, sling or tourniquet in case of injury, to a cooling towel on a hot day, to a valet tray so your jewelry doesn't blend into the counter and get forgotten, to something to cover your mouth and nose so you can breath while escaping a fire godforbid.

a tip I just picked up from another place, and particularly useful for families: pack all of the stuff that TSA is going to want to look closer at in one carryon. that way one adult can keep tabs on that "high scrutiny" bag, and the other can keep tabs on the kids and the low scrutiny bags. - I've already decided that next time we fly, we'll put the "uncheckables" into one carryon, so the other can be checked at the gate if need be. you already know that instead of a personal item bag, I carry my flight stuff in a light jacket with lots of pockets. I prefer a Kindle to a paper book for travel. I still prefer the security of having my books on paper overall, but the e-ink screen isn't hard on my eyes, plus it has the backlight so I can read with the lights off, and if my eyes ARE tired, I can adjust the print size. plus I can carry an entire bookshelf in my pocket. one thing I've run into is that I usually aim for exit rows, for the legroom. what that means for travelers, is the tray table will be smaller, and most of the time there is no underseat option. that means having my personal inflight items carried on my person is an even bigger necessity, so they don't get put in an overhead bin out of reach. I carry wired earbuds, mostly because I'm stingy, but partly because I can just plug them into the airplane entertainment system, or the tour bus listening system. when I go through the TSA line, as I've said, I wear shoes that are easy to slip on and off, so I can just take my laptop out of my carryon, and put it in a second bin with my shoes and jacket in it, as well. then at the exit, I can just slip into my shoes, stick my laptop back into my bag, grab my jacket, and get myself out of the security area. any reorganizing I want to do; I can do in the gate area, where there's less chaos of people who didn't prepare for TSA screening trying to put themselves back together. as a man, I make a point of wearing pants without rivets, (Carhartt work pants will earn you a patdown) that I can wear with or without a belt (that way I can have the belt in a bag for the flight, but I still have the option of going tucked in with a belt for someplace nice.) I have black golf pants I wore the last time we traveled, and they were great. I wear a nice shirt with a pocket, because that's where I carry my phone, and then the jacket with all my in flight stuff and all the stuff I normally carry in my pockets. I also haven't parked in airport parking for years. last time, we had friends drop us off and they kept the car - and all our keys - at their house while we were gone. that way, we could just ping them while we were in customs, and they came to fetch us. we've also used hotel "sleep and ride" services when we had early morning flights. even more creatively, one of my customers told me they booked a limo service to take them to and from the airport, because in the final calculation, it didn't cost them any more than driving to the airport, and paying for long term parking; once they added in the nuisance cost of not having doorstep dropoff and pickup. another tip someone might find handy - on our last international trip; we flew Iceland Air, and they handed out liter bottles of good water as we boarded the plane. so if you're flying Iceland, you probably won't need to juggle a water bottle.

Ride share services have been great for 7+ day trips vs long term airport parking.

Hi, here is a tip I hope you'll never need: I use a very slim fanny pack. It just fits four things: ID, phone, cash and credit card. You can wear it invisible under your shirt or sweater. My mobil is in a wallet style case, so it's all kept together nicely. If you have to leave the airport or plane in an emergency you have to leave all bags behind. With these four things, wherever you are, you can always organize your way home. I just discovered your videos and I bingewatched for hours. Thank you for your time and effort

Re being asked to stow the crossbody or waist pack because it’s a 3rd item…hasn’t happened to me, but on my last flight (Southwest), I saw the gate agent tell a woman she had to stow one item (she had a carryon, a small purse, and a small shopping bag). The woman got really flustered trying to stuff one of them somewhere. Lesson learned, be prepared!

I once had my small zippered bag ( like six by four inches) out in my hand because I was in line and getting my boarding pass ready as I got ready to go down the jetway. The gate agent keeps yapping at me for having three items even though I explain that I only have the item in my hand so that I can put my pass back inside once she checks it. Finally she gets it. One thing I'd add about liquids bags - don't feel you must limit them to toiletries. I don't use many liquids toiletries, so I always have extra space. This trip will involve a 5 hour flight, a 7 1/2 hour layover, then a 2 /12 hour flight. That's a lot of hours! So, I will be bringing at least 2 meals with me as well as the usual snacks. Remember that you can put liquidy food in your liquids bag, as long as it falls within the TSA requirements. Mine will include honey straws for my tea, individual salad dressing sachets, and three 1 ounce jars of different preserves for my cheese and crackers lunch.

@@carnival30 I'm not the person you asked, but I recently saw a video by Eunice at "Theory of Simple" (I want to give her credit because she is so clever), and she brought little bento boxes on her flight. She made homemade egg bites, some kind of sausage balls on a skewer, and in a separate bin she brought the fixings for bloody marys (bacon strip, asparagus spears, pickles, celery, etc.)! She just asked the flight attendant for the bloody mary mix. I was so impressed and inspired by the idea. I never knew you could bring food through security. You can, you just have to make sure it is not liquidy, except for what you put in your liquids bag. She also brings collapsible bowls and/or silicone food containers with lids so she can make soup, oatmeal, etc. She carries an insulated mug with a tight seal and once through security she gets hot water from a coffee stand. She uses that to make her tea, coffee, soup, etc. because the hot water on the plane comes from the tap and I guess is really gross. The cold water comes from bottles and is fine to drink. 😀

In addition to this I pack a larger one for long day trips in my suitcase for plenty of water for day hikes or site seeing. I also carry this in my car whenever I go out of town. Ideal for long haul trips .. New Zealand ect.

I use the same tray cover as you do then take one of those elastic towel holders that you stretch across the back of a beach chair and put it over the tray. I then use carabiners to hook underneath: my travel mug, a plastic trash bag, and a small toiletry kit with my electronics,etc. I can then use the pockets for other things.

I have traveled to 40 plus countries (Europe. Qatar. Southeast Asia) i have learned how to pack like a pro. Your videos have been a great source of information. Going to see my son in October on southwest airlines (1st time flying with them ) so i started packing early. Pulled out 4 personal item bags and decided i would try a travel backpack. I was impressed with how much i could fit into this bag. I always carry noise canceling headphones and a neck pillow. I have a bag i stuff my pillow into to keep it clean. Also packing 2 days worth of clothing into my backpack. I have to work on my vacation so i have my computer and a Kindle. All my cables and my Belkin surge protector which i have used in the airport to top off my devices. I have a 13 hour layover so i need some cleaning wipes to freshen up. Thanks for the tips about hand sanitizer not having to go in your liquids bag. I am only taking my backpack and a carry-on for an 11 day trip but i feel really good about what i am taking. Just ordered the airplane travel footrest since i am in economy and both flight are approximately 6 hours each. A must take on for me is a ziplock bag for garbage. As my itineraries have gotten more complicated, I have begun using the TripIt app. I can store all the documents for each trip electronically in TripIt without having to print and keep track of everything, thus saving space. Laurie, I purchased the backpack you feature and recently used it on a flight. Wow! It fit well under the seat and I still had leg room. So many places to put things. I also thought I'd never use the little RFID wallet you've featured. I purchased one, and I loved using it on our trip. I've long had the neck pillow you featured from a past video. Since we were on a 6+ hour flight, I did use it. I used a carabiner clip to attach it to my backpack although I'm sure that clip would hold. The carabiner clip allowed the pillow to hang down a bit. Love that neck pillow. Need to check out the peeps. As you can see, your featured items are keepers. I'll have to weigh getting that window cup holder gadget. Hi Laurie. I love your videos even though I am very frequent business traveller. You always give great ideas and I know there are many people who aren’t used to travelling that benefit. Anything that helps reduce stress while travelling is awesome! I always travel with an old school handkerchief. A men’s size if you have it of linen or cotton is ideal though I also take an older embroideried one from my great aunt. It can be a tablecloth a napkin. You can tie it in a square to hold a muffin or some fruit. It will mop up condensation (why you want a natural fiber). And it can be a hankie. Also every trip I try to toss things I don’t use. If you wanted to try it just take another empty travel cube and put everything you use in it during your trip and you quickly see how little we really need. Finally I recently started using double caribiners and a Tom Bihn side effect or packing cube bag. You can hang it horizontally on the seat pocket and get everything you need. Happy flights!

I take a cotton napkin, I use it on my lap when eating and drinking, keeps my clothes cleaner and I feel more at home, I also always take a large cotton hankerchief, I find placing the hankerchief over my nose (cowboy style works) is useful to counteract the dry air on the plane, the moisture we breath out remains behind the hankerchief and moistens the air we are breathing in, this is a great way to relieve coughing, sneezing or a stuffed up feeling, and incredibly fall off to sleep quickly! works for young children too, just place the hankerchief triangle loosely over the lower part of the face. believe me it works.

Thank you for these great travel ideas! I especially liked this video because I own the same 15.6" Lovevook backpack (in black), and you provided great suggestions for utilizing the compartments more effectively than how I've used it since I purchased it in 2022. Your suggestion for packing a change of clothes in a small compression cube, placed at the bottom is brilliant! I have those Tripped packing cubes and I will use one for my next trip. Using your suggestion will also allow me to leave my suitcase at the AirB&B for an overnight trip by train, instead of dragging my suitcase with me. So your suggestion solved that problem for me too. As a solo female traveler preparing for another 5 week international trip, I'm determined to reduce the weight and bulk of what I will pack for this trip and still be comfortable. Yesterday I purchased a Travelpro Crew Classic 21" Spinner. While I love my Travelpro Rollaboard Carryon which I purchased for last year's 5 week trip to the UK and Ireland because the suitcase has more space than the spinner suitcases do, it's so much easier to wheel a spinner beside you rather than pulling a rollaboard behind you. In a moment of panic this week, I purchased Lovevook's Carry On Backpack 30L because I'm so afraid I won't have room in my suitcase for everything plus souvenirs during such a long trip, but I also don't want to lug a larger "checked bag" suitcase around airports and public transportation either. Hopefully, the larger backpack can stay at home and be used for much shorter trips in the future. Thanks again!

I bought the backpack before seeing this, now I’m happier for getting it. I compared so many travel backpacks on Amazon. I think this is the best for me too. Compression packing pods are next. Thanks for the extra tips for everything.

I am obsessed with your channel!! Love all of the hacks…don’t know how I survived travel before this!😃 I use a very small vinyl reusable zip bag for my AirPods. That way if the case pops open…my airpods don’t fall out. Actually, the case never pops open inside this bag because it’s a snug fit. It’s perfect and easy to find in my bag!

I love all your videos. So helpful and I have learned so much. Even though I don't have any trips planned at the moment, at least I know that when I do go, I will be super organized. My son travels alot and I always help him pack. May be going to London in a couple of months. Went to Amsterdam and Paris earlier this year. Maybe I'll go to London with him. Who knows.

So fill me in on Amsterdam. What do you do? How do you get around? How is the food?

@@TravelTipsbyLaurie Take a canal boat trip to get a feel of the city. Walk everywhere. Amsterdam is quite small! Walking along the canals and the small streets in between them, you will be kept busy with all the interesting shops and galleries. Go to a concert (Concertgebouw is world renowned) Go to het Muziektheater to see the National Ballet or Opera. Both are top class companies. And best of all: tickets can be affordable seen with American eyes! See the museums with top class art: Rijksmuseum: historic paintings and artefacts. Stedelijk museum: modern art. Van Gogh museum: speaks for itself. Avoid going in April/May. Tulip fields are lovely, but not the massive amount of tourists! September and October can be excellent months. Stroll through Vondelpark. Eat Indonesian food (Indonesia used to be a Dutch colony) or food from any country you can think of. Restaurants everywhere! Try a pancake meal at a pancake restaurant. Eat Appeltaart (Dutch apple pie) on a terrace along a canal and do some people watching. And watch out for all the bicycles!!! Never walk on bicycle paths (red/pink colour) and never step off the sidewalk without looking left and right. Enjoy! (I used to live in Amsterdam for many years😊)

Yes. The museum of modern art, van gogh museum, the royal palace. Food is very diversified. At least everyone speaks English! The trains are excellent to go to nearby towns. Took the train to Paris. My son liked Paris much better but it was more difficult. People don't always speak English and menus are not in English unless you ask for one. And don't ever ask for anything to go!!

Great tips. I'm about to head off overseas to a Mad Max themed event. I would be carry on only but for all the parts of my themed outfit, and my very minimalistic camping setup, which means I have to check a bag. And buy supplies before I drive to the event.

The old " the overhead bin is full" schtick happened to us on Delta this year. We were heading home so it wasnt a huge deal to check our carryon. But I saw tons of overhead bin space when i boarded. I am one of those people who can put the bag in the overhead bin quickly and efficiently but whatever!
@dgrayhudson Жыл бұрын
Check The type of aircraft ( the overhead bins), this usually determines if gate agents check the bags. A computer indicates when they reach 70% boarding capacity and alerts flight attendants. If bins are 70% full- to avoid delays, whoever has not boarded , the gate agents will begin checking bags. If you happen to be in last group in basic economy , you almost always will need to check your bags UNLESS your bag will fit under your seat. Be prepared and have important items in a carry-on size bag that will fit under seat. All bags are designed to fit under the seat .( May take up some legroom) just cannot accommodate 2 bags per person in overhead when they are originally designed for coats, jackets and purses. -35 year international flight attendant

That first backpack you showed, I just bought the same brand for my first solo flight in forever next February. I’m a geek for containers so a nice bag with lots of pockets and zippers is my happy place. So glad I found your channel!

I got dinged 🙄 for my purse (small one like your little black one) and told that I had to either put it into my carryon or I would have to pay to check my carryon bag. I was shocked as I have never had that issue before in the past so now when I travel I make sure that my purse is already in my personal/carryon roller bag before I go through security.
@joycevieth Жыл бұрын
Was just on Southwest Airlines, after announcing that only carry on and personal bag was allowed they let a person get on with kinda large purse, another bag attached to roll on bag. No questions asked. Was pot out bc not everyone was treated the same.
@SnowySpiritRuby Жыл бұрын
@@joyceviethObviously no way to know for sure, but it's possible that the 3rd bag had medical stuff (or other "exempt items" - pretty much every, or maybe even every, airline has a list) in it, in which case they would be required to not count it against carryon allowance. I used to have to travel with 3 bags for that reason - backpack, carryon suitcase, and bag of medical stuff - and it was against federal law for them to tell me that I could only bring 2 bags precisely because the 3rd was medical (once or twice over the years a gate agent brought it up long before boarding started, but dropped it immediately when I told him it was medical stuff); they let me on with 3 precisely because doing so was treating me the same as everyone else. Just something to consider in the future when you see that sort of thing happen - that might not be the reason every time, but there's no way to know for sure.

Laurie, thanks for the timely reminder of your backpack. I'm planning a trip with a friend for next Spring to Italy using the trains and have been considering getting a backpack for my cPap instead of using the shoulder bag it comes with. Trying to maneuver 2 bags (and a crossbody purse) by hand on trains is too hard. But I think that I could manage with this backpack and my smallest 18 inch roller. 🙏
@paulabf9065 Жыл бұрын
Do you have any suggestions for sourcing distilled water on arrival?
@sharynpeterson3758 Жыл бұрын
@@paulabf9065 No. I just use regular tap water and clean the water chamber well when I get home. It's never been a problem, even in Paris where the water is quite mineralized. But if you are concerned you can check at a larger market or pharmacy, or ask the clerk at the pharmacy if he/she knows where to buy it.
@TravelTipsbyLaurie Жыл бұрын
Ooh true! Do they make a backpack version? You may want to get a cpap case that has a trolley strap to fit over suitcase handles.
@sharynpeterson3758 Жыл бұрын
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie The regular cPap carry bag has a trolley sleeve but I can't maneuver the "double" bag up the train steps easily. I thought that with a backpack I would only have to carry one bag with my hands because the other would be on my back for a short period of time.

Thanks to your advice for packing an extra emergency outfit. Due to a recent delay, I missed my connection, and had to spend the night in a new city near the airport. Thankfully, I had the spare outfit of a clean shirt and underthings for my unexpected overnight stay. Your packing tips videos came in handy for planning my first European trip in over 30 years.

I bring a clear garbage bag in my personal bag to cover my coat to store it under the seat in front of me. Sometimes I bring an extra compression cube to store my puffer jacket in my personal bag during the flight…. Or just use the jacket as a blanket during the flight.

Your videos have been so helpful! I am terrified that someone will take my passport from the backpack front pocket, so I put everything valuable my laptop compartment that is easy access but against my back. I put snacks and my airplane essentials pouch in the front pocket instead (that's where I put my earbuds as well). I am thinking of bringing a plastic bag or old scarf to put on top of my backpack so I can use it as a footrest without getting it all gross.

Great tips! There is a scarf with a hidden pocket that your passport fits easily in: amzn.to/3OTROjv

I don't usually travel with my best handbags, but when I do, I bring one of those shopping bags that folds into a tiny pouch. I put my "good bag" inside that once on the plane because I don't want my bag touching the floor. When deplaning, I take the good bag out of the folding bag and turn the folding bag inside out before storing it. If I needed a bag to cover up a backpack, I think I'd pack a garbage bag big enough for it to fit into. You can always use a garbage bag when you travel. At only 5'1", I appreciate a footrest.

Flying Southwest recently, lady in front of us had carry on, tote bag and purse. This is after they repeatedly announced one carry on and one personal item per person. I watched to see what gate agent would do. Sure enough, the agent had her step out of the line and consolidate her bags. Bummer on Southwest, too, because she lost her boarding position!

Recently flew to Hawaii on Southwest with 2 other parties. One had extensive medical stuff including TWO C-Pap machines, & a large bag of medications in addition to their roller. We had NO problem whatsover as long as TSA and the airline knows it is MEDICAL stuff.

I like my Vera Bradley backpack, but not sure of the version name. She has many styles. Mine opens up like a mini suitcase and has many pockets inside and out. I bought a textured solid navy, so if it gets too heavy my husband will tote it! He never has a carryon either, so on the occasion when I need two, he’s comfortable carrying it!

When I travel first class they don’t make me put my small crossbody purse in my personal bag but they do when I fly in coach. 😂. My cross body purse came with a soft carrying case for my AirPods. It is made of the same material as the purse. The AirPod case has a metal clasp that hooks on to the purse strap. I used it on my last trip and it was so handy. I wore my crossbody during the flight and kept my important documents and my in flight items in it. On the flight home I shortened the strap on my purse and hooked over my tray table. Either way works well. Everything was in reach.
