FYI, if you travel Premium economy plus, your trays are in the side pocket so the tray cover will not work. Also, is the 15.6" backback big enough to hold everything? Do you think the 17 or 18" would be better? Or will they not fit under the seat in front of you? I have a TUMI that I travelled with me while working (airplane every week) but it does not have the depth to hold a compression bag. Last time I took it to Europe, I had my clothes take up half the space in the bag with just a few items. I do like the weight of it though and the "squishability." Thanks for posting your videos. I have been enjoying them! Leaving for Lake Como in September.

I carry a neon yellow nylon bag (smwll with a drawstring and super light weight, fits in my pocket), as I approach TSA I put EVERYTHING inside it. Watch, phone, items from my pockets, sunglasses, earbuds, purse, ID, belt, water bottle, ....all of it. As I pass TSA I grab my neon yellow bag and go. Quick, simple and hard to mess up. NEVER lost anything at an airport.

at your recommendation, I bought the airplane tray cover with pockets as you showed in this video, and I actually pack the essentials I will be using on the plane ride right into those pockets and as soon as I get on the plane, I slip it right over the tray and then fold the tray back up until we are in the air...ezpz! No need to dig through my bag once I sit down in my seat to get this stuff all ready for my flight!

HINT: When we last flew in Dec. our plane was changed to a Dreamliner. We flew WestJet. On the Dreamliner there is no tray from the back of the seat in front. The trays all come up from the side of the seats. The airplane tray cover would not have worked on that particular plane. Be sure you know ... google image search for the seats on the particular plane, specific to the airline you will be travelling on. :)

I absolutely adore using Ziploc bags because they fit nicely into my backpack, prevent leaks & are waterproof, slide in/out easily, weigh nothing, can eliminate too much air in the bag or add air to protect things, and work much like a vertical file system! I label the bags with different colored Sharpies so at a glance I can figure out whether it's medication (T1D- carry LOADS of pump supplies & other meds), electronics, or my spare clothes. Checkpoint Charlie is already frustrating & anxiety-inducing. Being able to see things clearly labeled makes it so much easier when I need to grab a bag and figure out its contents. I've tried so many of the cute toiletry or travel type bags, but I always go back to a clear plastic zip bag. I also like having things labeled because when it's time to return home from my trip, I know exactly where my belongings need to be. 😁😉 Glad to see I'm not the only one that prefers this system. ❤️

I took a smallish carabiner on a recent trip to the UK, only travelling by trains/bus/taxi. During the flights, I packed my down jacket into its pocket and used the carabiner to attach it to my (rather full) personal item bag -- as I check a bag and only take a small backpack on the plane. Then in the UK, on a rainy day I used it to hang my very wet umbrella off my handbag when it wasn't raining or I was indoors. You can also use it to hang a toiletry bag off a hook. I think they are so handy!

One suggestion is if you do not have a lot of pockets and choose to use smaller pouches to stay organized. When you are packing take a photo of the pouch and all the items inside. If you have different color or types of bags that might be helpful. I have also used a label maker and placed the labels so I can see them when I look into the bag.

Just an idea, if you have one T shirt in that small cube in your personal item bag, you could take it out and fit a solid colour tank/shell and 3 or 4 translucent scarf-like tops that layer over the same tank into the same amount of space. I love my lovevook personal item bag BECAUSE of all the pockets. A logical pocket for each essential travel item makes it easier to remember where everything is. Your packing tips have made the CATSA line much less stressful for me when i travel. Thank you, Laurie ❤
@SLynnEasler-Weald4 ай бұрын
I love my Lovevook bag as well. CATSA leaving Vancouver was a NIGHT MARE for me. I was in a wheel chair and had no control over what was put up on the belt, in the grey bin etc. There was an wheel chair attendant and he was putting my stuff in bins and on the belt. I was trying to watch all my items, and we were rushed as we waited over 2 hrs. for wheel chair at the check in desk. My C-pap machine ended 3 conveyor belts over!! I had to call my daughter back into the CATSA area to go and retrieve it for me. Plus, I had bought clear bags on Amazon with the correct size according to the CATSA website. The agent tore my bag apart, and literally dumped my liquids bag upside down into my personal bag and told me I had the wrong type of bag, and that I was to use the plastic bags they provide in the CATSA area. * I was also in the special line for people with disabilities etc. as it was supposed to be less stressful for me and my family was altogether with me. I had to ask for some bags for future use, return flight... I politely told her I had checked on CATSA website and went by the guidelines and had no idea the plastic bags were supplied in their line. Also she of course discovered my small crochet bag with my yarn, project, acrylic hook and a pair of specific very small scissors that were allowed by the size I had researched. She called out to her supervisor, who then told her that those were allowed and were in the size parameters. She was in a "MOOD" and was really not a helpful nor patient person. She was downright rude. She is exactly the type of agent that everyone warns about. I thought all would be fine and that all was an exaggeration. NOPE!!!

I usually pack one bag for sleep comfort like earbuds, neck pillow, and eye mask, one bag for skincare/toiletry, one bag for first aid/vitamins/ointment/meds, and finally, one bag for snacks. All of them are clear bags so I can pull out what I need during a long flight. I always pack a big scarf that doesn't take much room and a Merino wool neck gaiter; also use compression socks. My plan is to take a clean pillow case and once on the plane take out my "plane pouch" and put it in the seat back pocket. THEN, put my PS item bag in the pillow case before I put in on the floor in the seat in front of me. Then after landing, take the pillow case off, put it in a clean grocery store bag and put that back in the PS item bag until it can be laundered! I suspect I will be putting my feet on my bag during flight so this will keep it clean!! Bon Voyage! You have been a life saver!!

Oh My Gosh Laurie!!!!! I just got my Tripped Travel toiletry set and all I can say is WOW! I am a big Tom Bihn fan and have been using two of their organization pouches, one for shower kit and one for the rest. They are great but don’t have any internal organization. I also use their Standard Spiff Kit for my cats grooming kit at cat shows. It works great for the cat, but wouldn’t work for me. I ordered the kit with the makeup bag and instead of sending a liquids bag as advertised, I got the long cube and I’m not mad about it. I bought this set on yours and a few other travel channels recommendation and I LOVE it. The organization is fabulous, the low profile even when stuffed is great and I like the way it feels. I cannot wait to use all three pieces on my upcoming road trip to a cat show!!!! Thank you for finding and sharing such great products. I would be interested in a video about your favourite everyday purses and what you like to carry if different from your travel purses.

I just went to Paris for a week using a carry-on and backpack only. You’ve shared so many good tips that I used. Thank you Laurie!❤ Coming home from France they wanted to see my iPad and 3-1-1 bag. Coming back through Seattle you go through security after passport control (I have global entry) and dropping off your checked bags. There is no TSA pre, so shoes off, liquid bag out and electronics out.

Hi Laurie. I really enjoy your videos! Thanks for all that you do to get us this wonderful information. I have used many of your suggested items. One item you may want to try and comment on is Sea to Summit ultra lightweight stuff sacks and dry bags. I use those for my everyday carry. Even with a lot of pockets in bags, it can get frustrating because I forget which pocket I have put stuff in. I color code my stuff sacks in my everyday backpack. This allows me to find the items (like items per stuff sack) quickly and easily. The ultra-sil ripstop fabric they use is slick. The stuff sacks slide in and out of my backpack/purse easily. Keep up the good work! It is appreciated by many people.

TY for incorporating my suggestions for mentioning the FOLDIES bag. I have a purple one that I currently use as a gym bag -- until I travel next year. The extra bag that comes with it will be a holiday gift for a gal pal. FOLDIES directly has a wonderful customer service department that is on top of all possible problems with delivery, malfunctions, etc. Also, I learned to keep an itinerary list/with pictures of where I placed everything in various pockets.

They are amazing!! But I think it’s more a carryon than personal item bag.
@SLynnEasler-Weald4 ай бұрын
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie I agree Laurie. For my age and disabilities, I would find the FOLDIES not the right choice for me. I found the LOVEVOOK bag in an appropriate size, and it fight on my suitcase when transiting thru the airports, and it fight under the seat in front of me, and was the right size that even my 12 and 8 yr. old grand daughters could be helpful and carry it on their shoulder. Plus, I do love all the pockets. AND, it opens at the top like Mary Poppins carpet bag and stays open when you are needing to go in and out of it.

I watched another video about TSA agents stealing from your bags as you walk thru the screening. It was suggested putting id/passport, etc, deep into a pocket to make it difficult for them to get to. Best if zipped. I will use the little double caribiners you showed us to secure the zipper. Not locked but harder for them to get to. In other counties, I've had to remove my money belt. It will also go deep into a zippered pocket. I love your videos.

Something to just know is that different airports have different TSA requirements. For example, SFO (San Francisco) doesn't require you to remove your shoes UNLESS there's heightened security that they're watching out for. A friend who works for FEMA so travels a lot told me that this is happening because airport security is being upgraded so if an airport has already been upgraded then the shoe rule has changed. When I was traveling through Philadelphia in May, they made me put all of my electronics & liquids back into my personal item before they would send it through the scanner. So just be prepared for changed conditions. Love your videos.

BTW - I have a cross body phone case that I wear when traveling & airline check-in has never counted it as a personal item.

I also think that they change things daily or even more often to what the will be the protocols within the rules; to keep everyone on their 'toes' and so travellers are not complacent and it helps find problematic travelers.

I bought a pouch in Marshals a set of 3 , large, medium and small they nest . I added another pouch that has 3 layer packet. 3 layered pouch-toothpaste, toothbrush, mouth related, second row-pads,3rd row- wipes, restroom spray, antibacterial spray, bowl cover, small flashlight. The 3 pouch: small-eye cover, universal plane earphone, compression socks, medium pouch-writing pads, pen. Large bag contained all the pouches. They are flat and plenty of room's. I did moved my small medication barrels in that pouch as well. If I need to go to restroom, I just pulled the 3 layers pouch. I'm been using this for a while got one for international and for local flights. Can use carabiners on them . I always travel with a roller back pack 15 “ Kipling and a multifunction back pack (as my shoulder bag). Of course I always do check-ins. I vacuum my clothes and put them in compression bag to be more organized. I always carry extra clothes and shawl for emergency. I asked my friend to buy me a sachet shampoos/toothpaste in the Philippines, bought some in Peru as well.

I got the Lovevook backpack on your recommendation (I got the color called “brown” which is really a pretty rosy taupe, because I thought it would tolerate being stuffed under a seat better than your beige one 😂). Not only is it a fantastic personal item for flights, but I now use it daily as my work bag. The zippers are incredibly smooth, and it is still in pristine condition after about 11 months of use! I also took your recommendation and purchased the Level 8 20” suitcase about a year ago and it’s been great. We just took a two week trip to Spain and Portugal and now the silver corner pieces are scratched up. But otherwise, it’s in great shape. My boyfriend was convinced and ordered himself the same case in the dark red color (mine is a pretty warm blue). Thanks again for your tips and guidance. I appreciate you! ✈️

I like bags with very few pockets so I can customize by pouches. Then my pouches are easy to remove at my destination. For my phone I wear a small cross body bag with a zipper compartment I can easily drop the phone in. I recommend against cross body bags with flaps over the opening - you need two hands to open it and put your phone in or take it out.
