Just need a love for working out, enjoying the gym the rest sorta falls into place, the easier it comes.The longer you have been working out , the more you learn about workouts and thus helping people pertaining to workouts and other parts related the money will come from being recognized for that.

Honestly, the gym I work at has a pretty good commission scale. Top trainers there make around 60-70k with a full schedule. Working my way to that now. Many gyms pay a percent of the hourly session. For example. If you sell at $80/session and you earn 50% commission for that session that is 40/hour. Obviously not including time spent creating programs and such. If you have a good system you can make a pretty decent living
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation

Ya you can definitely make a good living! A fair number of trainers get to six figures or very close. That’s usually about the cap at this point though for just training.

It’s all based upon results. How good of a trainer you are is the ultimate determining factor. I pull in well north of 100k but my hourly rate is $140. I know it’s sounds like a lot but I always have a full client load even in a small town. People are willing to pay over double what the other trainers in town cost because of my proven track record. If you want to make a good living as a personal trainer you have to get results. Clients need to hit their goals one after another. I don’t even have to advertise. It’s word of mouth only. Good luck everyone!

Just to chime in, I live in a low income area, so where you live has a big impact on how much you make. Most trainer's here cannot train full time as there are not that many people willing to pay for one on one training at a price that is profitable. Most trainer's have a second job. If someone made $40k a year, or even $20k take home pay here (low income but also low cost of living) they would be able to makentheir own studio or buy their own house, but most trainers here are not in that situation. In a bigger city the numbers you're listing here do sound possible though.
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation 2 жыл бұрын
That is definitely is one of the largest factors in training income. Higher income areas have more to play with which generally means more clients, and in turn, higher income as a trainer. Area income also makes a difference with the prices you’re able to charge.

@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation

There are no sites that distinguish between those two things. Most trainers, who’ve been doing it for a while will make more money on their own.

Honestly, what I would first do is shadow some trainers where you are to see if it’s something that you really enjoy. If you can see yourself doing it after that, than I would check out NASM and ACE. Those two programs are online and the most respected in the industry. I probably wouldn’t bother attending anywhere in person for personal training.

Do those 40000$ come after paying taxes or before paying them? I'm a foreigner from Europe, who's considering moving to the US for a living with personal training work. Do you think those 40k $ are enough to live in a city like Boston, MA for example or Chicago, IL?
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation 2 жыл бұрын
That’s 40,000 before taxes. That means you’d make less than 40,000 after taxes. You’d likely make considerably more money in Boston or Chicago though if you’re able to get to full time status in either of those places. It wouldn’t be easy to make a living solely on training moving to any area in US, but it’s definitely possible.

@@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation If you pay a trainers 20-35 I assume the personal training sessions are around an hour long and in the range of 60$ish per session, can you expand on this a bit I just need a perspective from someone experienced in this line of work/business so I can too price accordingly. @@dezcanso1540 yup your numbers there are pretty close to what mine are. I pay my trainers different rates. They have a rate of pay for admin work, basically just cleaning the studio and other miscellaneous tasks. I start trainers at $11- $15 hourly for that. One-on-one training pay rates are $18-25 hourly. A two person session nets the trainer $22-29 hourly. There are other pay rates that I have too. My trainers are employees though. If you’re going the independent contractor route then things could be a bit different for you. Thanks for the compliment btw! I appreciate it!

@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation

It doesn’t take that long to get to full time if you’re willing to put a lot of work in. Starting up your own studio, in my opinion though is only something that you should do after working for others for at least a few years. The experience and knowledge that you gain from other owners is incredibly valuable.

The pay is low, it's a labor intensive job, has as many risks as healthcare jobs etc...is everyone too trained in basic first aid, pediatrics and advanced? Yah, move that long. A minimum salary should be about 50K perhaps up to 70K whatever the average is for an OT, PT etc. Do a comparison analysis because an OT or PT doesn't really do much after the initial consultation that is supervised by a doctor. After that the patient is on his own at home, unsupervised etc, blah, blah.
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation Жыл бұрын
I agree with most of that! That said, the pay is low starting out but it doesn’t have to stay that way. I’ve met a good number of trainers who make quite a bit of money. I don’t think trainers should start out making what PT’s or OT’s make. Both of those professions require a lot of schooling and training does not. That said, as a trainer, if you’re successful you can make more than someone doing either of those jobs.
