Podcasting corner doesn’t even have to be green screen. Can just be a corner with a sofa. Some interesting things on the wall maybe some display pieces, then do the podcast without worrying about being green. People will become familiar with the ‘set’ lots of podcasts are instantly familiar to people just from the set. It’s a cool idea. Look forward to whatever it is you do.

Please post that video log you said you made but scrapped! It looks SO interesting and "long and waffly" is what your viewers like!!! I would literally pay a monthly fee to see all of these behind the scenes / scrapped videos

Most podcasts i watch just talk on their phone screen like your vlogs.I think a cosy arm chair with you reading your script placed inside a folder like an old book style and maybe pop in some photos like you did on your last UFO video be fine .We love your story telling im sure most people not bothered about green screen lights etc .Keep it simple so you enjoy it too .x

AWESOME Vlog update Rick :-D LOL! at you saying the green screen gives you a green tint, I used to have this problem when I filmed in my old polytunnel as the cover was all green and I used to end up looking like little Miss Madame Hulk haha, it looks like you have a fantastic set up in your filming and craft studio room, thanks so much for the update Rick and sending you lots of love and happiness from Belfast for a terrific Tuesday today XXXX

This all sounds very exciting. I'd love a story time with Rick Podcast no cameras necessary as I listen to these sorts of podcasts before I drift off to sleep. I just love a good bedtime story and your voice and skills are perfect for the job...I also like the pottering/ waffle type videos...the more the merrier haha 😊

This is awesome news and very exciting Rick! There is so much out there to talk about, that you would have a lifetime of content. You have a unique gift of speaking and making people clearly understand the subject matter as well as keeping it interesting. I think this is going to be incredibly successful in many ways. 🙂 👍

Good morning Rick. Craft room very impressive but don't envy you having to put all that stuff away - nightmare. You have a nice soothing voice for story telling so hope you will do that. Wishing you all the best and hope you continue to keep well.

Hi Rick, I enjoyed listening to your thoughts and I love nearly everything you do. Sorry I can’t offer any constructive suggestions but will definitely look forward to any podcasts you do. Good luck with it all and so nice to have a project in mind.xx

The podcasts I watch tend to have one person sitting at a desk speaking into a microphone. There's usually something appropriate in the background. If it's a spiritual podcast there might be a Buddha on the desk and an ethereal painting in the background.. If it's about dog training there will be pictures of dogs on the wall behind the speaker.. Where I live we have a lot musical jam sessions in our local centre, and we also do a bit of storytelling. Only person reads from a script. The rest of us just tell the story. If it's a ghost story we turn the lights down. It has to be atmospheric.

Now this is a surreal suggestion: But rather than spending on a bespoke corner podcast room, start off with a corner tent! I’m thinking just a little bigger than a camping shower tent. You could then put out ‘Tales from the Tent’ podcasts / stories. Told you it was a surreal idea! I’m just a great believer in mobilise! Sid

Interesting. What's behind the green screen currently? Could that wall be painted green? Or better still, blank so as multifunction but with a wide two meter pull down blind that's green, then it's adaptable. Could you fix wall lights spot light type things so that lighting is mounted in front of you, and just needs to press the on switch?

Thank you Rick for all your troubles in exploring your Podcast options. What a lot of work! I love the idea of a podcast, but does it have to be so elaborate? I think that even just applying something like a VR experience of sitting in the cockpit of a spacecraft? Or what about some other VR recorded screen to accompany your stories? Walking in a woods? That sort of thing. Ones that are appropriate to the story? Doesn't have to be fancy. Even just sitting on your sofa or comfy chair and just reading it, even though I do like the idea of having some sort of accompanying visual. Is that doable? I know you are a perfectionist, and you are vested in producing quality things for your audience.

Came for the carnivore, stayed for the random waffle! I agree with other people below, you don't need a greenscreen, just a comfy chair and your script in a nice looking folder. People like people, even if they're just sitting in arm chair reading a story.

One way to mitigate the spill from the green screen is to rim light the subject from both sides. And the more evenly lit the green screen the easier it is to key out. And if possible shoot down the length of the room rather than across it to increase the distance between you and the green screen. And don't forget you only need the screen big enough to fit you, you can always mask out the rest of the frame. OR use a method that doesn't require a green screen (I know Final Cut n remove backgrounds and I assume other editors have similar capabilities).
@xondominique26023 ай бұрын
that big green cloth seems cumbersome. you probably need it the way it is but just a thought, you might cut it up and make it like a roll up screen so it's more manageable. i've seen people use such screens as background for their videos to hide the mess behind lol

I like the trucking in the background of the story. Maybe have the trucking as a filler but flash/bring pictures and photos up that relate to the story

It’s hard to get into the podcast market these days. With every TV personality and c-list celebrity making their own and being promoted by the big platforms. If you’re going to do it, try to find a niche subject. But as a lot of the smaller podcasts say, don’t expect to make any money from it. Even some of the bigger podcasts complain they don’t turn a profit. If you’re doing it for a hobby because it’s about something you’re passionate about, well then those tend to be the better podcasts.
@pongshoerot3 ай бұрын
Personally, I wouldn't need any visuals with a podcast, I would stick it on and listen to it in the background or on my phone. A lot of podcasts these days are just a few people having a chat, or interviewing people, I think it's harder to do it solo. Like other people have said, it's probably best to talk about whatever you want to talk about and don't worry about pleasing the audience too much.

I thought the video on the Brewyn "podcast" was quite enjoyable. I guess I see how it didn't fit, but it was relaxing. Reminds me of late-night radio and the fact that truckers are usually a large part of the audience, at least here in America...they have such long commutes! I think your voice and some creative accompanying vids or sims or illustrations are enough for storytelling. Don't knock yourself out with cumbersome production.

I really enjoyed the Berwyn UFO podcast a lot. It didn’t bother me one bit that the scenes from the truck didn’t correspond with the words you were speaking. I thought it was visually & audibly great. I’m a listener & listen to vast amounts of audio books. I don’t often stick with podcasts where there is nothing to see but the presenter & a mic, but that is just my opinion. I guess it depends on the host & the subject matter really & if there are lots of images inserted to look at. Lost Beyond Pluto are on around Episode 93 now & I wouldn’t miss a single show of The Plutonium Show. A Canadian Lawyer & her Australian husband who just have a basic set up but I love that they fight for justice for our British Monarchy & they are hugely honest & decent human beings who despise the injustice being done to the family by two long lost relatives shall we say🥴Being a lifelong Monarchist it really matters to me so I never miss an episode. I like mysteries & some true crime & anything nature & wildlife related. Oh & food related, I have been low carb for almost 5 years. I find it incredible how very little of reality people are allowed to talk about & I like listening to podcasters who speak the truth about subjects that are now classed as controversial. My interests are hugely varied & I think you have the perfect voice for podcasts, I certainly would not fall asleep listening to you talk Rick. How exciting, wishing you the best of luck. I don’t blame you not doing the green screen stuff, you just do you Rick, I’m sure it will be awesome. Annie 🏴

Just remember, Rick, don't forget yourself in the 'pleasing' equation. You have to want and enjoy making your vlogs. Like in the good ol' days. There is much neediness by some online creators, so much so, I've deleted some online accounts because many appear to be begging for gifts and likes.

Your greenscreen is too big, it's probably reflecting off the opposite wall, you're also too close to it, i'm sure you mentioned this in one of your old videography tutorial vids, yes i've been watching you that long :D Personally i would paint the end wall where that frame is, set up a desk so you're 6 foot away from it if possible, if you still get green on the face, consider darkening the side walls in that area When i had my studio in another room, i had a bar on the ceiling for my lights, the desk sould double as a work surface/layout desk, or it could be simple to move.My camera is on a heavy duty anglepoise arm (the type used for those magnifier lights), don't need a tripod As for podcasts, unless they have changing visuals or a talking head, it's not for me, if i listen to just audio, it would be music while i am doing other things, not so easy to listen to words while doing anything a little noisy, or concentrating on those other things.
