Thanks for that. You may be able to help me - do any of your trains have a front window where passengers can see the track ahead?

OMG life was so simple back then and i loved the old trains my dad use to work at the Midland west-rail factory back then. He was laid off when that place closed it's doors. I used to travel to school on the old trains and they were never on time.

By the late seventies early eighties the bodywork of the ADG-ADX railcars was starting to rust away from the chassis so they needed major repairs at the Midland Workshops to keep them safe. The Prospectors fiberglass front was made at the MIdland Workshops and the Mann flat twelves were overhauled there at approx 1,000,000 km .

I really don’t know. I never lived in Perth. To me they were no more than the local trains. Maybe a Google search for diesel trains perth may reveal something, but my guess is that they possibly used similar components to the NSW sets as there may not have been a wide choice of suitable parts anyway.

Distant cousins maybe but quite unique to Perth manufactured at Mildland railway workshop.

Just for future reference - it's NORTH FREMANTLE and NOT Fremantle North

Moved to Perth from Melbourne in 1983 and remember the Brian Burke state opposition government campaign to reopen the Fremantle line very well, the Court government said they could provide a better service with buses, but I think old Charlie Court just wanted everyone to buy cars!

Local input is always welcome. Thanks also for your comment on the origin of the railcars.

There's interesting rail projects going on in Western Australia, I'II keep an eye out for you in April 2020 at the opening of the Forrestfield airport link.

Unless a tram line opens, there is not much to drag me to Perth. I have not even been on the Mandurah line. I took video of the fuel cell buses in about 2004 and should still have that video. Do you think anyone would be interested in it?

tressteleg1 The Perth fuel cell bus project had big problems, buses spent most of there time in the workshop, we don't really talk about them anymore, it's diesel Volvo and Mercedes all the way...would still watch!

I could never understand why Perth kept the 42 inch gauge when the rail system was electrified. %6 inch gauge is far better.
@tressteleg1
@tressteleg1 3 жыл бұрын
What is wrong with 3’ 6” gauge? The QR electric tilt train runs at 160 km/h in some places - no other Australian train goes any faster and Brisbane suburban track standard compares very favourably with wider gauges. Perth potentially is as good as QR.

That was interesting to watch filmed three years after The whole Sydney-Perth route was converted to Standard Gauge Two years after 3801's epic Sydney Perth Western Endeavour run and 1 year after The Prospector was introduced that replaced an overnight Sleeper train named The Kalgoorlie.

What really fooled me was the massive changes at Bassendean which has changed massively since 1972. What Bob, who identified most locations, explained to me was that the apparent disappearance of the SG line there was caused by its conversion to dual gauge and track rationalisation in general. It’s a pity that none of the Prospector cars were saved.

Could you imagine having trains today with open doors LOL, the stupid people of today would just fall out.

Stupid because they are wrapped in cotton wool from birth. For open doors watch any Sydney Trains Video by tressteleg1 or tassiebaz. Open doors was normal.
