I love all of Hobb's Realm of the Elderlings books so much that it breaks my heart when folks I recommend them to don't get as far, and inevitably fall as hard as you are, once they get a few books in. Just wait until you get to the final Fitz and the Fool books. My wife was like, "You're weepy AGAIN?!" Kept happening over a series of weeks. Glad you made it!

You talking about the greater good and Fitz, Verity & Kettriken (spelling? lol I forgot) made me remember how much I loved the Hobb books. I barely remember ANYTHING but the characters have burned within my mind -- I love them all. Hobb builds so, so well and it makes me so happy that you've got this appreciation for the series. :)

I think you and Clay would love the Netflix series ”Dark” if you haven't seen it already. It is a bit scary but mostly a really suspenseful and eerie kind of series that will definitely have you hooked by the third episode. It will blow your mind.

I know u like books with fantastical elements so I just wanted to recommend an adult historical fiction novel with a magical realism element called The Murmur of Bees by Sofia Segovia. It's a family saga historical fiction/ magical realism novel set in early 20th century Mexico during both the Mexican Revolution and the Spanish Flu Influenza pandemic (which makes this read timely).

After listening to all your thoughts about The Assassin's Quest, I can definitely appreciate what you see from the final book. To me, I spent the second half of the book being frustrated because it felt... Hmm, how to say it? Like there's a point where a character's trauma and the unfairness of their life gets so bad that it feels unrealistic to me? So much of the last book made me roll my eyes because why can't Fitz get a break? But now that I've listened to your thoughts, while I might still have lukewarm feelings about his treatment throughout the series, I can at least understand the themes I mostly missed in my emotional "this isn't fair" mood. Thank you, as always, for the insight! :)

When I first read Realm of the Elderlings, I skipped the second trilogy Liveship Traders because I needed more of those characters. It's ok to do this but I wish I had read them in publication order and that is how I read it now. There are things that happen in Liveship that influences what happens in the third trilogy.

The development of Hobbs writing is better and better with each of her books, l just finished the third book of her third trilogy (that follows Fitz and the Fool 15 years after Assasain's quest), and l am just speechless, she shows the magic systems and the world in such a spectacular yet subtle way... and the character development is wonderful, once you are a Hobb's fan there is no turning back hahahahaha

I don't know how far you are into Stand Alone Complex at this point BUT!! I HIGHLY recommend watching the 2 Ghost in the Shell movies (2.0 is a rerelease\improved edition of the original 95 film, & innocence) that came out before the show. They really set up the universe & everything and since the show is a companion to it, it is a bit of a different story overall, but they're essential if you're loving what you're watching!! the first ghost in the shell movie has my fave fight scenes in anime like, ever. water fights and giant robot spiders, so good!! 🥰🥰🥰
