It’s funny how much pestily’s story is so much like many other infantry stories. I have a lot of stories like his, including how terrible the ambulance is at finding you even while you’re on base. I had a brother die on me because the ambulance couldn’t find us on the main road. So he died en route to the hospital.

Todd Howard you don’t understand the situation at all, and I don’t care to explain all the variables. But if a driver of the ambulance doesn’t even know his was around the base and takes several wrong turns more than doubling the response time, then it was the fault of the ambulance driver. If he didn’t waste so much valuable time that would have gotten him to the hospital with the equipment and man power needed to have him survive.

14:13 Had 3 friends get cancer (not brain) and beat it while in the service. Unfortunately, for all 3 of my friends, it was also a death sentence for their careers as the US mil doesn't want cancer soldiers. Also, had one friend who had a trailer smash through their leg at what I assume is the same spot above the femoral artery. This episode hit close today. They were all basically told take as much time off as needed; however, 'feel free to come by work, the more the better...' they were boosting our morale seeing them in good spirits instead of puking their guts out *alone* in their dorms. Our Chief was cool with them coming in with game systems and voluntarily working our 'support' sections. People sometimes think military members are John Rambo, but no we're humans and feel bad for people with cancer. One of them made friends with our Wing Commander while golfing and basically told him 'yeah, I'm a stage 3 cancer patient right now and my boss has given me an open sick waiver' (don't come back until your cancer clears up). Wing Commander thought kid was lying and got ahold of his Medical Commander who confirmed everything. Same Commander playing with him 3 weeks later then watched him run to the bushes and heave his guts out due to his chemo. As my friend stated to me, he changed his attitude towards him that day.

That was Walkabout Creek, which isn't a real town. I believe those scenes were filmed at the Federal Hotel in McKinlay, Queensland. Most of the rest of the Aussie parts were filmed at Kakadu National Park, which is just south east of Darwin. Kakadu is in the same state as Alice Springs, but much further north (almost 1500km).

had a guy I knew in the ADF do a field ex, on the way back they did a simulated fire and move thing just to fill in time, he leopard crawled into a red belly and it bit him on the fore arm.. he didnt even know about it until after they finished and he couldnt keep his rifle lifted thinking hed just smashed his arm on a rock during the crawl. he eventually colapsed not feeling good and was sent to hospital and all that blah blah, he then got sent home to recover as it was around christmas time anyway, he goes into the shed to pull a bike or something out I cant rememebr what he said he was doing but he got bitten on the leg by a copperhead XD and had to go back to a hospital... all in the space of about 2 weeks he got tagged by 2 snakes!

In FDF conscript training we had a guy horsing around with the wooden training rounds, he was firing the RK completely sideways I understand. Don't know how exactly it happened, but he managed to get a shell case lodged in the eye socket, which then boiled and popped the eyeball. Needless to say the eye couldn't be saved. Absolutely incredible bad luck. But that guy had received some very heavy safety training, he knew better. But I guess that was a big time lesson to all of us. Don't mess around with the gun.

My uncle got brain cancer and apparently it's super rare and there's a disproportionate amount of men who fought in desert storm and they have seemed to have linked it to chemicals that were used during the battle. He was not covered by the military but his wife did win a settlement with the military after he passed it was kind of shitty.

I really dont understand how that could happen, there could have been some obstruction in there when a round was being fed. the M2 actually fires from a closed bolt position, so thats maybe why he had to kick the handle in order for it to close and then fire it, and the bolt doesnt even have to be locked in order for it to fire and maybe that's what caused the case to explode when it's not all the way inside the breech.
