Brennen White yea, their reasoning was that it would be to much of an effort to include anything to do with the book. They still didn’t mention the Wendigo, they didn’t do the Zelda death scene right. Zelda is one of the most terrifying parts of the book, and she is one of Rachel’s biggest fears, the tool that used to lure her to her death. Now to the obvious switching of the children. Gage’s death was more traumatic, and the reason that he was so terrifying was the fact that he was just a baby, something that’s supposed to be non-threatening, and adored suddenly turned into something evil. It’s why Stephen king wrote it that way. The original at least managed to get the kids right, and Zelda was at least a little scary. In this remake the scariest thing about it is the damn cat.

This is the most 'whole-film-in-a-single-trailer' trailer I've seen since The Shallows. The WHOLE film is in this trailer. They even gave away Zelda here. Not sure how I feel about the changes from the source material. It isn't even the same story anymore after this trailer. This is what I gleaned from this trailer. Pros (so far): - Wendigo plot element is here, though perhaps a little too much so. We'll have to wait and see on that. - Casting (I guess. I mean they'll never replace or outdo Fred Gwynne, but I can accept the prolific John Lithgow.) - Church looks gnarly. Cons/Other: - Oh, everything else. - It doesn't necessarily look like Maine. The characters now live in cabins in the woods it seems, going for a blatant, forced, easy creep factor instead of the alluring surprise of these events happening in a quiet New England neighborhood. - Changing the climactic demon child to Ellie is a bad idea, given the part she plays in the actual story/novel. Should've been kept as Gage. Now it's the girl from 'The Ring' LOL - Judging from all the changes, it also looks like there will be no sign or involvement of Rachel's parents beyond maybe the Zelda stuff, seen spoiled here in the trailer. - Apparently, the kids from 'Sinister' and 'Frank' from 'Donnie Darko' are here, so there's that. - There was never anything creepily ritualistic about the actual Pet Sematary that the children built, just the Wendigo-possessed Micmac Indian burial ground beyond. - The Micmac grounds seemingly being a swamp now (the shot was too quick to get a good detailed look, but it looked like a swamp) lends a little bit of a creep factor to it all, however, there was just something so deeply disturbing about the dry, frozen ground and wide-open rock formations of the original story. At least there seems to be a coherent narrative here, and it still might be worth seeing.

I made a 48 minute long video about all of this months ago, also explaining why I thought Ellie would die this time around. So many called me crazy and stupid, but damn it's nice to be the one laughing now. This is nothing like the book but I do agree that there are some major new psychological aspects at play here, with the Creeds living with something that's clearly not their daughter and how they'll deal with all that trauma. They spoiled absolutely the entire movie, but other than that, it might turn out good still.

I hope it's NOT Ellie. That's not how the book goes. And if I remember, Stephen King approved of this remake, unlike his disapproval of Stanley Kubrik's version of The Shining. King gave Kubrik a light script to go buy and Kubrik all but threw it out. So if King approves of this remake, I highly doubt that he'd approve of a major game changer like this. Because part of the plot is ELLIE dealing with death. First, the death of her cat, then the death of Gage. And Rachel has such a hard time dealing with the Zelda situation that SHE doesn't even know how to handle death and gets angry at Louis for explaining death to Ellie and then helps Rachel by being there while she explains her traumatic experience with Zelda. Imo, the plot wouldn't make sense if it were Ellie that dies. Maybe the shots of the little girl we're either dream sequences to throw the viewer off or maybe it's supposed to Zelda. Idk. But I hope they don't change it from the original. Imo, the original Pet Sematary movie (although cheesy at times) was amazing and almost followed the book to the T.

There is still a lot the trailer didn't show that is on the script. In the script A dog that was buried in the pet sematary comes back and kills church the cat and also church the cat tries to kill Gage. When you see in the trailer church walking in the middle of the road he didn't just return from the pet sematary. Luis drove the cat miles away because church was a second of killing Gage and what you see is the cat walking down the road coming back where luis drove him away, luis hoped the cat would stay away and not find its way back but church finds them. When church finds the way back luis is having a birthday party for Gage. Ellie has not seen the cat for days and was upset but when she sees church she runs to him. The cat drags her into the road and is the one that dies as you can see in the trailer.
