If a film doesn’t translate for audiences who don’t know the source material, then it’s not exactly a successful film is it? Considering the number of films that are book adaptations or remakes, it’s weird to only make these kinds of demands for certain films and not others...

Maybe it did not translate well for you. I think a lot of people that know the source material well will probably appreciate and enjoy the film. Most of the reviews for this movie are very positive so you look to be in the minority.

That Darn Movie Show not trying to give you a hard time. I am however thinking that people familiar with story will appreciate a fresh look. I do believe the original movie is a bit outdated.

It’s so difficult to translate King’s books completely, as the books are so dense, with so much detail, a tv series adaption would probably get it the most accurate! Think I might give PS a miss after your review lol. (And nice to know you’re not the only person who hasn’t watched every associated/original film before a remake 👀🙈) x

I wouldn't. This is one negative review, compared to literally tons of other ones that are overwhelmingly positive. I'm hoping this one is good, seeing as how Us was disappointing.

@@iamsophiehannah988 It was a muddled mess, in my opinion. The suspension of disbelief is way too high, the tone was all over the place, the pacing was weird, the twist was obvious, the story didn't have much weight to it, and the soundtrack was very hit or miss for me (the last one is just a subjective point). The movie is definitely well made, in that Lupita's acting was splendid, and the cinematography was on point, but the film felt less like it was it's own thing, and seemed to rely on the hype surrounding Get Out, and the black equality movement. Don't get me wrong, black representation and equality in cinema is critically importan to society, but because of the thematic ties with Get Out, Us is going to be praised by a crowd that is eager to seem homogeneous with the black equality movement, even so far as to hype up a movie that really isn't that great. Whereas Get Out felt like a genuine attempt at conveying a message, Us just feels like it is riding the Get Out wave. Funnily enough, the unchecked praise from liberal perspectives is the exact racism that Get Out was pointing a finger at. Overall, the movie was harmless, and certainly not a bomb. However, it is being overpraised, and is definitely not 4.5/5, as many reviews are dictating it is. I'd give it a 2 maybe 2.5 out of five. But that is just my personal take. Reflecting an opinion like this is difficult; as someone who supports the black rights movement, and someone who considers himself as left wing, saying I dislike the movie almost always gets back to the fact that "I must be racist, and that's why I didn't like it".

Love your videos Clarissse but I am not sure if want a car coat hanger in my room! Effective mind. I saw the original film when I rented it from blockbusters. Blimey that dates me, and Captain Marcel wasn't around. I think it's ok film. I watched it again recently on sky movies and it doesn't really hold up that well. Am planning to see the new one. Surely there's a decent horror movie to be made out of the concept and the book. Please keep the videos coming. Love your reviews.

I enjoy most Stephen King adaptations, might give this one a go or maybe just wait for it on a streaming service cause then if it truly sucks then i didn't waste any money!

Stephen King does have a habit of getting to the end of the story and kinda running out of gas and not knowing how to end things. Cats are not scary? Check out Uninvited 1988, a poisonous-supercat-inside-another-cat movie.... with an annoying looped cat meow... and may be even have mutant Scanner powers.
