Yep. I've still got this CD. Bought it when it first came out. I love this album so much. It has that haunting ghost track at the end....which I found totally by accident back then. The Pet Shop Boys making Easter Eggs before they were an actual thing! Love them so much!

When the CD came out in 1993, it would be my birthday shortly afterwards..and it was an unforgettable tree-day celebration with my best friend and of corse The Pet Shop Boys! It was zur best birthday of my life..ans my favorite album is "Very"..forever! So cool memories and I've never had friends like that again..

This is one for the cognoscenti of high camp. A near-flawless gem of aesthetic pop, rich in artifice, humour and joie de vivre. I never appreciated it until some kind of switch turned on in my brain, and now I feel a sort of reverence for a masterpiece of the genre. Everything, from the title lyric, to the costumes, the dancers and the musical arrangement, makes me giggle with sheer, unadulterated pleasure.

@@psb2 Hope it's not too late to reply to you. No, not a music journalist, but I see exactly why you ask, as my comment reads so much like journalese. It's a pity, because it misses the feeling I get when listening and watching. But I do like some of the words I used to describe the sensual pleasure the video evokes. 'Whimsical' is another word I'd use to describe my appreciation - I feel tickled in different places all at once. I just love those dancers and their costumes, too.

Reminds me of meeting my husband in late '93 & he got me to do several things I would not normally have done back then. He taught me to play MahJong (to the level I frequently beat him!) & on the 3rd Jan 1995 took me on a 2 year budget backpacking tour of the world which I would have never have done. I recall when I was about 13 (1992?) maybe, this song was used as part of a special 3D Children in Need fundraising evening. The crappy graphics and over the top early computer graphics was the cutting edge of what was possible and it was certainly before we all had access to powerful pcs and the internet in our homes. Thus it was pretty impressive and we sat watching awestruck! :P Kids have no idea how it used to be not that long ago really!
