Thank you so much, Peta, for doing a colour along with the inktense pencils. We all learn so much from you! You are an amazing teacher and I truly appreciate your sharing your techniques with us. I know I was so excited to see the start and end of this series and everything in between! I enjoy your videos so much! So many colorists on KZbin don't speak in their videos. They do longer videos and multi-part series on one page where you can follow along and see the techniques but it really makes all the difference when you speak. I love that you actually explain what you are doing. I think that's one of the main reason that you have such a bigger following than the other colorists on KZbin. That and of course your amazing talent, coloring and your own art! That's something else. The other colorists on here either didn't do original art or just haven't showed them. But thanks again! And I know your work load is unreal and we appreciate you always trying to make everyone happy.

I know your workload is full, trying to make everyone happy and doing a ton of videos and your husband trying to edit them all.i love that Yall are a team. It's super sweet how supportive he is to you and he really knows what he's doing when it comes to editing. All your videos look amazing. Yall are a great team! But I know you have a lot on your plate and I don't know if you planned on ever doing it again but I, and several others I'm sure, would love to see another Colour along with regular colored pencils again like the duck pond. I love the inktense tutorial and truly appreciate it and really enjoyed it as well as all your Colour alongs. But I learned soooo much from your duck pond multi-part series and would love to see another. But like I said, no pressure! I know you've got a stack of books to review and prob products too and many other things you want to do first. But when it works for you and if you would like to do another one... I'd love to see another Colour along. Thanks!

Hi Peta! Just want to THANK YOU so much for this tutorial. I am relatively new to coloring books and I spent this weekend completing the Inktense tutorial. It was quite a challenge. I just want to say that you are an excellent instructor and I love your nonchalant attitude. You make mistakes forgiving and that boosts my confidence. While I'm no where close to your level of expertise, because of you, I'm improving. I learned so so much. You're awesome!

Hi Peta. I've finally finished following along on this page!!! (I got bored with all the brown on the building and came back to it). I've had a challenge matching up my Caran D'Ache Aquarelle pencils with your inktense colours, but can report that they are fantastic pencils to work with.. no streaks or scribble marks. It's the first time I've used them and the first time I've painted in a colouring book. Thanks to your excellent tutorial it looks great, and I have something I'm proud of, so thank you so much. Think I'll do one of your Creative Cats next. xxx

I have just bought the 72 colors of Inktense pencils and I am doing the swatch colors. I really am amazed at what beautiful, intense, vivid colors these pencils turn when adding water. I can't even imagine just using them as a pencil, that to me would be such a waste. I started about 8 months ago buying everything in sight!! mainly for mixed media. But I also have watercolors, neocolor 11 crayons, distress inks, on and on....I really am Loving your tutorials!! You really explain the colors and shading in a way that I can finally understand, I get it now!!! Thanks so much for doing these. You have a dedicated subscriber...

Now that my Paris picture is nearly done (I'm at the cobblestones and steps now!), I wanted to write a huge thank you for taking your time to do these videos. I am absolutely loving my Inktense now and learned so much on how to use them. Even with my lesser quality version, I have only a couple spots that show on the back of the page (caused mostly by me adding more color off the pencil with the brush while the paper was still drying) though I won't know until I try to color it if it damaged the paper too much but I can always get a second copy! I vote for more Inktense color alongs! :) I also wondered what you thought about the Coloursoft pencils. I found them on sale but wasn't sure if they were worth investing in. I love the Derwent color line (I have the Artist pencils) and was tempted by the colors but with a softer lead. I noticed you mostly use the Polychromos in your video pieces and I have those already so it may not be worth purchasing. Not that that has stopped me before but I'm running out of storage room for my collection! LOL! :)

so glad I found your channel...actually it just cued up after something else ...auto play feature. I have had a difficult time.😍 cuz now I can't lift the color with Inktense although I love them. it shows me that I tend to rework areas more than I thought. Love, love your coloring and tutorial. I watched you butterfly first. here is what I had started to say. ...do you save your Inktense sharpening shavings? if so, save separately and try sprinkling on wet watercolor paper. spray with more water let dry...wipe off wood pcs. see if you can see something in the design... now please tell me how it turned out, as I tried this [no channel to post] but now I am stuck on how to finish it because it is not crisp and resembles oil pastels...I could outline to get more detail can you help? I'm asking you because you have impressed me with what you can do with these! thanks for you time.😍

I know my copy of magical city is from a different printer and doesn't take water as well (I can do it but very carefully and can't rework an area - just enough to activate then stop or it degrades the paper) and I've seen come others comment that theirs is a thinner paper quality too. Just a thought but I ran across a KZbin channel - julie's passion for coloring by Julie Bouve - and she uses Inktense a lot with colorless blenders rather than water. I've seen her do that in Magical City and and I think she's in Europe so her version is likely like mine which was printed in Italy. She mostly uses a Tombow blender but also Koi or Dove. Any blender should work. Not quite the same effect as the water but it's an idea for trying on most coloring books without the fabulous paper. I tried my Tombow blender on the test page in the back and it does work. Just doesn't give the washed out watercolor effects obviously. She used a water brush with Inktense in Imagimorphia and I know the paper in my Animorphia feels very nice to I may try them out in it too. Just a thought - something many of us may already have and want to give it a try in some of our existing coloring stashes as well as Magical City! The blender effect was really nice in Imagimorphia (she's done pages with a blender and with a water brush so there's examples of both). Using the scribbled lines on the larger animal to base the darker colors and work around. I'm definitely giving that a try and thought everyone here might find it interesting as well!

Australia. I recall from her walk through video on the book and I could see the print info. No way to get one like it unfortunately!! I'm not pre-ordering the next ones because I want to see the reviews on the paper and see if it's possibles to get one with better paper quality.

+Melissa Kyzar Lizzie Mary Cullen has a KZbin channel and reads her comments. I bet if you comment about your issues or ask her she could let you know or do something. Not ones already at the press but u know from here on out. Maybe we could get another edition printed of The Magical City from a different publisher or with better paper. But I'm sure she is aware of the new trend of using watercolor or inktense because she commented on Peta's first video where she reviewed the book. And she knows Peta has a big following and that more and more ppl are trying this out and coloring with Peta, which is a joy as always and with all her videos! I'm sure she has addressed the paper issue because of more and more ppl using Peta's awesome technique. It's like Lizzie's work was just made for inktense. They just go hand in hand and we just needed Peta to show us the connection! Lol.but she will see the comments if you would like to ask about it or what not

Not a bad idea! I tried my book today with a different Waterbrush and it works a bit better but if the brush puts out more than a barely damp amount of water you get bleed through. And blending is difficult. But I shall start an official page. I've been practicing with the beginning pages so as not to mess up a real scene! There are a couple at the beginning with the same art so I tried them with my new brush.

I am happy to report that I tested a new waterbrush exactly like the one used here in an intro page in my book and had better success than I had before with my other one. Still have to have a barely damp brush but the water flow is a bit better on this one. If it puts out too much water I blot it out, let it dry before workin that area. If you blend too much with more than a damp brush it bleeds through. It's all about the water amount! But now I am ready to start first real my page of Magical City - Yay!!!

Thank you so much Peta, I love, love, love your coloring of the Magical City. I am trying to duplicate some of what you are doing with my watercolor pencils and it doesn't even come close. I'm wondering if watercolor pencils are not the right medium or if I am just not the talented artist that you are. Please do more of these.
@PetaHewitt8 жыл бұрын
Hi Julianna. watercolour pencils are just fine, I have some of those too. but I love my Inktense. the difference, as you have probably noticed is: Inktense are far darker and brighter which is why my pages look so colour dense. Watercolours are lighter and tend to go a bit lighter still when you activate them with water. Also Inktense are permanent. Once they dry they no longer move. Watercolours will reactive when you wet them again and will mix and move with the next layer of colour. I hope this helps.

@erinmccoy16868 жыл бұрын
Barbara Nichols I also use wax-based pencils. You can use a blender pencil or even lighter colors to blend them together, depending on the look that you like. Pencil quality is where this makes a difference, so that's why many people prefer artist quality pencils. Hope that helps :)

Hi Peta, Great video. My husband gave me the full set of Inktense for Christmas! I'm starting to use them and have a question. Do you always color a section and then activate it or are you doing that because it's a tutorial? Is there a reason one can't color the whole page and then activate it?
@NameIsPauPau7 жыл бұрын
Julie B it could be done both ways, it is a matter of wich one do you enjoy more but the most common way is the one she uses here, cus this are not watercolors they are ink colors so the ink wont reactivate once it is dry, so you can layer it sorry if any spelling or gramatic is wrong, english is not my first language

Not with alcohol based as they would ruin the picture behind. I could use Tombows or other water based markers in this book but getting nice gradients would be difficult. A combination of markers and pencils over the top for depth and interest would work well.
