Yep, I have used a smooth foam roller and these products on steel I-beams outdoors, they hold up decent, are easy to find, and are cheap. Roller and brush are slower but easier to prep and cleanup in a lot of cases. Thanks for making these videos. Reminds me of old times in the shop. Messy, dirty, hard work but lots of satisfaction and a sense of accomplishment when you stand back and look at your work. An honest, respectable, useful way to earn a living. Your keeping that older metal out of the scrap yard. You are a Craftsman in your trade.

Just as an FYI you can buy spouts for those paint cans from Benjamin Moore if you have some around, they actually just clip into the lip and you don't get all those drips and stuff like that. A lot easier to pour from the can. All the best from Canada

J.C great tip on cleaning the vent on the paint gun cap .. The last frame I did I used Rustolium Bbq paint I like the satin finish and it is durable But the smell is way to strong. Over the years I learned in cold weather Acetone works well . Warm to hot weather mineral spirits works better ( drys slower)

Hi JC, love your work. Your mask cartridge looks like they are for particulate. Great for fabrication and welding but for painting you really should be using cartridge designed for volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

I get it but you have to protect your heath and your wife's. I want to enjoy future projects from you guys LOL. Best to get the VOC type cartridges that allow the option particulate filter to snap onto them. I use the rustoleum products which I think are really good as well. I love to paint with a gun, but there's something cathartic about brushing paint on the frame - no idea. lol But it usually comes out well and I do a couple coats.
@chrissterling3225
@chrissterling3225 Жыл бұрын
I use the same exact products on frames….the only exception is i normally do a satin finish…satin black is almost impossible to find in stock so I mix 50/50 flat black and gloss black…it comes out nice and helps to hide blemishes in the frame . If you’re looking for a nice gloss…sometimes I’ll use xzylol

That is the most care I've ever seen given to an HFT paint gun. 😉 I've known guys who shake up a few ounces of gas in them, shoot it through the nozzle, and call it good. They last for _years_ in industrial uses like this where quality isn't all that critical. If one gums up or starts leaking, it's $15.99 to start over again from scratch... 30% off of that if you don't mind printing the coupon. You can honestly spend way more in Acetone than the gun is worth. I know it feels wrong to not do it right, but... 🤷‍♂

@slngblde
@slngblde Жыл бұрын
It’s not the lack of hardener. There’s little if any additives for uv protection in the cheap enamels. Automotive grade paints are many times more durable and the cheap urethanes are not much more expensive than the rustoleum

Nice job, JC, and I figure since you continued the job, you found the spring that came out of the back of the spray gun at 6:43 in the video.🙂 I had to rewind it a couple times to make sure I saw what I saw. It's happened to me, which is why I noticed it. 🙂

@@j.c.smithprojects , good point, I had to re-check it, and yes, it looks like it could have been a spring, but I see the screw still in , so yeah, it had to be Acetone. Thanks for clarifying. I know I saw you take the screw out, but that was at 3:21, and you did put it back in, so my mistake...again, thanks for clarifying.
