You weave a fine tale around these adventures. Even if it was a crowded spot.

Now, I am a solitude lover but a crowded lake in the woods is far better than a crowded mall in a town or city any ole day! Trips like that do fill a soul for sure. :) :) Thanks for sharing.

When you put it like that, I would make the same trade!

Looked like a good time with good people. Even managed to get in a sip or two of whiskey.😂 Have one for me next time. Beautiful area. Thanks for the video and take care, Al

Beautiful area! Solitude is nice but you just make do! A place like that has a lot to keep me distracted from the human presence. Looked like a great camp! 👍👍 CP

Thanks, man! You make do. Well put! It doesn't ruin a trip unless you let it.

Nice little one-nighter Travis! Surprised how little fall color for late September, although the lake and the mountains were still magnificent.
@mountainwanderer2 жыл бұрын
I was really surprised at the lack of colors as well! I will admit it didn't feel much like fall and a lot more like summer.

Very nice! Some good philosophy in there to boot!

Take all philosophy on this channel with a grain of salt, but better yet, take it with a shot of whiskey!

Absolutely beautiful around the lake. Did you have whiskey or Kentucky Bourbon 😁 Cool video and area 👍🏻👍🏻
@mountainwanderer2 жыл бұрын
Are you asking me a trick question? Kentucky men know that Bourbon IS whiskey... so the answer is yes.. on both accounts! Thanks for checking it out!

The trick to the Cascades and the Olympics is a very early arrival at the trailhead. This past May, on the very first really nice weekend, we did just that. Turned out there were still several vehicles at the Duckabush trailhead on a gorgeous Saturday morning. As it was, we arrived at Five Mile Camp and if I remember correctly, were the first or second ones there. Took the two best hammock spots (big trees and had to double strap), and enjoyed the fire and the river the rest of the day as several parties trickled in, some having to push beyond as it got late. But everyone was friendly, and the power of that river during a warm day spring runoff was truly awe inspiring.

I do know that trick and I believe I was telling people that the night before we left. Herding cats can be tough, and in the end I was happy that we made it to the trailhead at all! I was thinking about you as I was looking for places to hang my hammock. I didn't see any real giants that the cascades are known for, but almost all of the trees were bigger than the ones I'm used to. I'm ready though, I have 2 sets of straps!

@@mountainwanderer Up high, I think the trees would be comparable. Down in the valleys, would be like Ross Creek Cedars if you’ve ever been there. A year ago last spring, camped at Lena Lake with my son. Beautiful Lake, but very popular. We had to settle for what was not even a campsite, but it worked. One thing I noticed was that there were several ideal trees perfectly spaced from a 4-5 foot diameter one. But I didn’t have enough for the bigger ones. I do now. Getting to be the season where competition isn’t as stiff for a spot.

Beautiful spot Travis. Looks like this lake could be in the middle of Montana. ( Only minus the crowds)

It was a really beautiful lake! They are still worth going to for sure! You just might have someone set up their tent right next to you..

I did this hike as a boy scout quite a few years ago; all I remember was that it rained so much the lake water level went up over 2 feet overnight, the less smart guys ended up sleeping in a puddle but luckily me and my tent buddy were in a decent spot and stayed dry (enough)
@mountainwanderer2 жыл бұрын
That is funny! I have a similar story from scouts, expect there were 3 of us in the tent, I was in the middle and somehow got lucky and had the high spot in the tent while the guys on either side were in puddles. 🤷♀️

Nice relaxing trip but no Timber?
@mountainwanderer2 жыл бұрын
We thought we were going to go to a National Park and Timber can't do that. The smoke pushed us a little farther west, but we had already left without him.
