In this episode of our Rimworld Royalty Extreme Desert run, we defend the Steakhouse against hostile tribespeople, tailor a large shipment of shirts for a quest and take Alistair's mining abilities to the next level. ► Full Playlist: bit.ly/39ogWJb
In this episode of Rimworld Royalty, we continue our Naked Brutality run in the extreme desert. With the remains of last episode's dromedary attack still surrounding the Steakhouse, the next challenge is right around the corner: Three groups of tribespeople attack our colony but we react quickly and fend them off before they can do any real damage. As part of a quest for the Black Trosga tribe, we also start tailoring 37 button-down shirts for our neighbors, who have promised us lots of advanced components in return. Finally, we unlock "Specialized Limbs" and construct a drill arm for Alistair to improve his mining and deep drilling speed. And because one drill arm is not enough, he also receives a second one shortly after...

The Extreme Desert is Rimworld’s hottest biome. Full of sand and dirt, the extreme desert does not offer a lot of room for plants and animals, so food is scarce and whatever is acquired will spoil quickly. The heat also poses a constant threat for colonists, always putting them at risk of suffering a heatstroke. Tribes and more advanced civilizations also tend to stay in the more moderate regions, so finding other settlements to trade with (or to attack) is not so easy.
We are starting with a modified Rimworld Naked Brutality scenario, leaving our starting colonist with no food, items or equipment to start his journey in the extreme desert - not even clothes. We are also making our starting colonist a member of a tribe, reducing the amount of technologies available at the start of the game and severely lowering the speed with which new projects are unlocked.
The goal of this Rimworld Royalty Extreme Desert Challenge is to start with absolutely nothing in the extreme desert with a single tribal colonist and survive for as long as possible - ideally until we are able to escape the planet. With the Rimworld Royalty DLC, we also see the introduction of a mighty empire with access to hyper-advanced technology who might occasionally seek us out to aid in certain quests - and who might award us royal titles and exciting psychic powers in exchange.
Rimworld is a Sci-Fi colony builder simulation game focused on managing a small group of survivors with the goal of eventually building a space ship to escape the planet. Rimworld is developed and published by Ludeon Studios. After a successful Kickstarter campaign, the game went through several Alpha and Beta versions before seeing the release of the Rimworld 1.0 version in October 2018. With the Rimworld 1.1 update and the Rimworld Royalty DLC, a lot of new content has been added to the game, including a mighty empire, new weapons and items, a quest system and much more.
All Rimworld Royalty gameplay for this Rimworld Royalty Extreme Desert Challenge was recorded on the PC in 1440p.

Both quests are interesting, the second one more than the first. But not for Honour: That vertigo psycast is a massive boost to any killbox, and the neurocalculator will both make Karl better at researching and happier in one go. Now, I'm not sure about the quests' timers, but it looks like you might be able to pull the second one off first, and then go for the first one. Then you should easily have the goodwill to call in reinforcements while the six pawns are away, if needed. But whether to go for the eltex stuff or the honour from that one... Hm. Psycasts haven't played a very big role with your playthrough, so far, not since Steak's first title. Again, though, having a bunch of enemies rolling around in their own vomit while autocannons merrily and methodically make mince-meat out of them sounds... *intriguing* ;) PS (edit): I am *very* interested in what you do with Karl! As far as I can tell, brain implants do not replace each other, so on top of the neurocalculator, he could have things like the learning assistant and psychic harmonizer, not to mention a whole slew of other stuff to improve him as a melee fighter: Other than Steak (whose harmonizer prevents it), each further implant would give Karl a permanent mood buff, which he would then pass 1/10 of onto every member of the Steakhouse within 30 tiles, with further boosting for the cuts and bruises he would likely get in infights. Not a bad combo at all!

Nice Episode. Just two remarks this time: - I think you can say this is a "Bloody Desert" out there - Why did you roof off that steam Geysir? That will trap the heat. The room should be over 100°C and be suiteable for executing people with terminal heatstroke by now. Not sure it would make a difference however - the game still counts it as colonist/prisioner death. As for the quests: - Take the smaler one, with the raid every 25 days. You may want to ahve a way to trigger the danger, without exposing your colonists. Stuff like ordering a less usefull animal to approach via the allowed zones. Then you can see if you need to make a equipment run or can deal with it there and then. - The larger one is too large. 2:1 even if you bring 6 people seems excessive danger. At least with the surprise danger, you should be able to stagger the combats.

On the topic of the quests, the first one is a no brainer, you explained why you're going for it and the reasons are great, 23 is not a small amount of advanced components, after all. As for the second quest, if you can get a couple autocannons online before initiating it that would shore up the steakhouse's defenses nicely, likely enough to hold out until the 6 soldiers are back. As for the fight itself, well, we've all seen you beat worse odds using worse equipment and without psychic powers, so it shouldn't be too hard to handle as long as you're careful. With some luck everyone will come back unscathed. The Psychic Sensitizer could be nice for Steak as well, since it'll make him get psyfocus a little faster and increase his max psychic heat, both allowing him to psycast more often, an ability that only becomes more valuable the more he learns The third quest seems pretty easy, especially for a quest that gives 2 psytrainers, which will greatly increase Steak's psycasting options. I'd say go for it, especially if you go for the second quest.

I think both would be rather worthwhile to take... the 12 pirate one will require some strategy on your part, but for the honor, it seems okay. The second quest is much more lucrative imo, take the reward nr.2. Neurocalculator will be handy to Karl(will let you start that transhumanist chain), Detoxifier stomach may be a bit less handy, though you can just give it to someone you don't want food poisoning on(like Redhawk or Polyanna, doctor and social person after all). The Psycasts are good tho. Smokepop makes the smoke launcher obsolete and makes it very safe to take out mechanoid cluster turrets, and vertigo pulse is still handy in a killbox, especially if you can catch a couple enemies. It forces them to vomit, so it's like an AOE stun.

I say go for both. Stake is a good psycaster. If you get him all that sweet gear, he could probably Focus all of your colony without much downside, and that would improve your combat capabilities substantially.

You should add floors in your 'inner' doorways and a little "porch" on the outside, help keep dirt down, and check the cleanliness of your kitchen man! Of course we want you to do the quests. 3,563 views, 511 likes, 1 dislike....click the thing, type the stuff, help Pete out.

~22:00 - Pirates - I'd go for the psytrainers, vertigo pulse isn't quite as good as berserk pulse for combat, but if you're rushed by a LOT of humanoid raiders, it'll be a huge help if you hit them bunched up together. For raiding their base itself, what I'd do is craft a few traps and bring some building materials to make a defensible wall, barricades and possibly a corridor where they walk through the traps, but I only do this if I have a pawn with the nimble trait because of the trap spring chance can injure when uninstalling it. In your case, explosive traps might be the safer option as they don't have the trap spring chance when you walk over it to uninstall, and are lighter to transport. If you have a sniper rifle, that would be good for taking out the turrets or their batteries and if you're lucky pick off the pirates before they assault.

Pete, I love how little things went not quite as good as they should've. I think there were 4 times that this happened. I just feel bad for the colony in the sense that their overlord had made each of them get injured.

Pirate camp - my problem with these quests is you can't bring additional gear like traps on a pack animal, at least last I tried. If you attempt it you definitely need your best gear on the guys you bring. The camp can be anywhere on the planet, possibly even in a cold biome where there is no cover and no resources to use locally. This is where a trained psycaster would shine, especially if they had berserk pulse or, an imperial title pawn with aerodrone strike, but you might want to save that for home defense emergencies. You can however take some time to dismantle the pirate camp, loading up loot and returning home is pretty much instant last I remember.

For Cooling down the base, more importantly for prisoners, creating a room with 2 Coolers is of course beneficial, but have you thought about ever making vents for each room as well? Temperatures will cool the main room, but the main rooms coolness will also transfer. This can of course also make the main dining room more pleasurable for guests.

Both quests look manageable - at least once the defences are build. The one requiring six colonists might be a problem though if you don't get the walls up quickly enough. Meanwhile the other that sends raids every 25 days can just run in the background after accepting it to be finished at your leisure.

Personally, I would like to see a series on one of the modern Shadowrun titles. The game system is flexible enough to display skill and planning and still finite enough to be played to completion. X-com and Mutant players will feel at home with the turn-based strategy.

Speaking of jaws, using uranium maces for prisoner control is kind of dangerous. One of my recruits had their jaws crushed and is now sporting a denture. Another one tried to break out of jail twice. The first time he lost a jaw and a leg, the second time the other leg. He is now a happy camper with dentures and two prosthetic legs. The colony leader lost an arm when I opened the ancient danger, so, well, it is an interesting game.

Regarding the raid quest, I would say you should take it for the psytrainers. Smoke pop in my opinion is mediocre, but vertigo pulse is kind of a multiple stun against biological targets as they stop to do whatever they’re doing (I.E. shooting and stabbing) to vomit for a few seconds

We all assume that canonically Steak is making all the choices Pete is making, as he is the in game leader of the faction. If you take this to be true, that means all the decisions Pete has made for optimizing certain colonists, namely Edmo and Allistair, Steak has also decided to make. So it is canon that Steak ordered, or at least approved, replacing both of Allistair's arms with drills, which is probably much to the chagrin of Allistair himself 😂
