I've been using an iPhone for 3 yrs straight but switched back to Android (and yes, the s23 Ultra) because Samsung hit all the spots this time around - battery, performance (*ehem* Exynos) and cameras. Samsung is known to have the best display in the market and of course the build quality is perfect as always. My only gripe is the minimal curve display.

The only reason why I switched to s23u is I hate Tim Cook's mindset that he can sell iPhone as expensive as he want and customers will buy it anyway
@andyH_England
@andyH_England Жыл бұрын
All flagship phones are expensive. In the UK, the S23U 12GB version is £1400, much more than the current iPhone 14PM base model (reduced by 7-10% in price). I would say that Android is no longer the cheaper option, so you seem to be living in the past. I saw a video showing that over the last 10 years in the US, the price of Dell PCs went up >80% yet Apple went up around 20%. I feel those hating Apple are still stuck in the past and seem to refuse to accept things have changed. So I suspect it is just hate of Apple rather than pricing now.

Pro tip: the NFC chip in most Android phones is in the middle of the back of the phone. So instead of getting stressed out by the fact that you cant seem to figure out how to "tap the top of the phone" to access something, just hold the whole phone and hover the middle of the back over the NFC reader or payment machine and you will be golden.

I'm a apple user. This year I switched to S23ultra from iphone 12 max pro . It's just mind blowing experience. I don't care about hardware config , I'm just a normal ph user . Android is so easy and comfortable to use . Android has more freedom than ios . I'm never going back to iphone again and here in India apple pay has no use at all . Here gpay, phone pay and paytm are the most used payment app . Till now i haven't face any issue with payment system. Lastly I don't use smart watch so I've no idea about smart watch performance, I love normal manual wristwatch.

I've owned the complete Apple ecosystem since 2018. The integration between all devices, accessories and first party services is amazing and unmatched, but something struck me after this year's WWDC, when they announced my 2017 MBP won't get macOS Sonoma. I realised that even the smallest changes to most basic Apple services like Music and Weather require you to update the whole OS. My iPad Air 3 probably has a couple of years left, and the battery on my Apple Watch S6 has degraded significantly. So in order to retain all benefits of owning Apple devices, I'd have to spend minimum $6000, and then again after 5-6 years. While Android and Windows do not offer the same level of sync and polish, majority of the apps and services get updates without needing to replace the whole device. Sure, one can use 3rd party services on Apple devices, but they are very limited compared to their Android/Windows counterparts. In the future, I plan to gradually replace everything with more flexible alternatives, because while Apple does provide OS updates for longer, the moment they stop the support you're f-ed. If I had an iPhone X, my Watch wouldn't be able to pair to it after watchOS 10 update, while Garmin Connect for example works all the way back with Android 7 devices.

I have an XR, on the latest iOS release, but my Series 3 watch is on WatchOS 8. It still gets bug and security patches and works fine paired with my phone. The watch is 8 yrs old. Maybe I misunderstood your point. Back in time when OSX moved on and used iCloud more, support for my 2004 iMac stopped, but generally Apple are regarded as best in class as technology provider for support.

The Android issues mentioned here, are not exactly conclusive platform issues. I have the S22 U (Exynos) + Tab S7 + GW 4 and all work well together. My watch & phone sound states are always in sync, I even have routines that adjust these based on different conditions. Google Home on Android does just fine on my TV & smart device control. Google Pay is just perfect on my phone & watch, except when I put my phone in this other magnetic cover which ruins the NFC functionality. The shutter lag exists only when you taking the full resolution 108mp pics, the standard pics don't lag at all.

just what I wanted to say. Plus if you want to mute your device, use always the "do not disturb" button which is synced through all devices and mutes everything with one tap. I, for example, use only vibrations on my watch and normal full audio on my phone so I like that it is not synced.

I switched from an iPhone to a Galaxy S22 because of computer compatibility. While I really like iPhones, I HATE macOS computers. I use a Motorola Razr (flip) which is flagship quality and old LGs for media etc and they still go strong, sideloading APKs because their OS's are outdated. Android has the focus modes you mention at 8:52. On the S23 they're called routines and can set specific apps, wallpapers, sound profiles, etc as well as watch faces based on the routine you're using. The conditions for each routine can vary from a specific time range, connecting/disconnecting a bluetooth device, a specific app being used, or being at a specific location (i.e. turning on work mode when you pull into your work's parking lot). The benefits of Apple is also partly a monopolistic issue for. Apple makes exclusivity deals, so developers don't make things for other platforms until a period of time later and even when they do go to Android the product is inferior. It's not always a technical issue either. These type of practices I choose not to partake in as much as I can because I would be supporting a product that would limit my ability to fight back when it gets out of line. That's why I stick with Android. Nothing but competition. And of course Samsung is the King of that group. Yes I've had other Android phones. I loved my HTC back in the day.

I do agree with you. A lot of people have moved to other messaging services. However it create a mess when you want to simply communicate with someone you have just met. Apple needs to adopt RCS so that we have an updated standard on both iOS and Android so that people can communicate like they should have been able to do years ago. Most of my family and friends use Android and we can group message and instant chat through RCS and it works great. Anytime I communicate with an iPhone user, it's trash! That is the real issue. Getting grandparents or people who are not tech savvy to have many message apps will usually not happen.

I went Android to Apple and have noticed that pretty much everything Apple does is so refined and all of their devices talk to each other so well. Really enjoyed Android but the OS is so incredibly fragmented (the watch / phone muting for example) that it’s difficult to think “it just works” like it will on Apple. I miss the Pixel camera for sure (I’m on iPhone 14 Pro and still prefer Pixel shots) but overall I find Apple provide a much more consistent and reliable platform.
@DevlogBill

The reason why is because it is easier for Apple to design their applications for their products because there are fewer devices under the Apple umbrella. Android there are so many different variations that it is almost impossible to tailor applications to specific types of phones. Don't quote me but last time I googled the landscape of Android I think it read Android owns 80% of the world market in phones and devices. Also, you have smaller unknown companies from other countries who create Android phones on different specifications different from Samsung and other countries. So, it is very hard to create apps which fit the screens of all Android phones and devices. But I agree in the past I've had Android phones where it was a bit buggy, or the apps were poorly designed.

I've switched from an iPhone to a Pixel phone last October and, just like you pointed out, it's the little things that I miss. Syncing my phone with my watch, Apple Pay, even the Airpods, the polish of the OS itself, but Android is great as well once you tweak it just the way that you want to. In my case, I'm hoping for a decent Pixel 8 Pro to upgrade to, as I prefer the vanilla Android experience, especially coming from iOS.

I actually switched the other way almost 2 years ago for the 13 pro max. I don't use my phone for much outside basic functions and the occasional Genshin spree. It's probably because I don't see a phone as a mini-computer - just a handy task assistant. I do all the serious work on my pc/mac. I didn't find myself using all the Android-exclusive features my old S10 brought to the table, but experienced the reliability issues associated with Android phones of the time. When my S10 was about as old as my iPhone was now, I had been considering getting the 12 Pro Max. Today I don't even watch iPhone videos anymore because my 13 pro max does all I need it to do reliably.

Again, Pete, well done for such a great video, showing your honest feelings of both systems. Sometimes I wish the best of both iOS and Android were combined. Or even better, if you as end user could pick your favourite functions from both into one phone and smartwatch…and earbuds. Because both have their pros and cons. Yeah, video is still better on iPhone, zoom is better on S23. I just don’t understand why Apple is keeping simple functions away from the user. Such as moving your icons to your desired place on the screen, why there’s still no fade in and out on iPhone. I guess Android and Samsung in particular are moving a lot faster with innovations. Downside of that is that not all of these functions are fully optimised and having some issues or bugs. You are right, there’s still some lagging in apps, camera etc. However, I also experienced issues with iOS, even crashes. I guess we’ll keep switching every year between both. 😂 Cheers.

I am learning Android Development and independent developers for Apple have to pay Apple $100.00 dollars per year for their developer membership versus Android you pay last time I checked 25 dollars for a lifetime membership. Also, for developers to submit their app to Apple there is a complicated process and lots of times your application can be easily rejected because Apple has high, very high requirements. I have used apple devices before and I realised how easy things are in android. Especially for the customisation as well as other freedoms such as sharing files. We can always download apks if the newest version is not supported anymore due to our device being old. An old ipad made me frustrated because I couldnt download most apps.and there seemed to be no solution, at least no easy one. And for my old galaxy tab, I could just download the older versions apk for it to be able to be installed. Sharing things are easy without having to be drowned in the ecosystem. And no internet required. I am the offline kind of person. So once I got the taste of android, it has been hard for me to move back to apple.

Samsung is going in the Apple direction, which is totally not OK. They overprice their phones and modify Android too much. It just feels bloated for me.

I have one question, why is the lag so long when you were taking photos ? I have a S20 plus and there is no lag. I've been a samsung user since 2012... I've never seen the lag. If you want to take a lot of photos in a short amount of time you just press the shutter and bamm 🤷🏾‍♂️. If you use the pro mode it's impossible to get any lag, just in case you keep getting the lag anyways.

On the Samsung Watch you can just press the bottom button to go to open the menu where you can end workout. Also, if you turn on do not disturb on the phone it will automatically mute the watch. I have never had the issues with google pay you are describing, as long as tap to pay is available, it always works. I can, however, confirm that tapping in general with the S23 Ultra is a bit of a hit or miss, you are absolutely right on that one.

It’s funny because I did the opposite I’ve been Tommy two phones for awhile now with android being my main phone but when it was time to upgrade my note 20ultra the s22ultra didn’t appeal to me so I traded in my 10r and got the iPhone 14pro max my only regret is how slow the iPhone is surfing the web like seriously my note 20 ultra is a lot faster when using 5G and Wi-Fi I really notice it when I’m using streaming apps (KZbin Crunchyroll Netflix and Hulu) and this is going to be dumb to some people but the reason I switched because I turned my android phone into a retro gaming hybrid handheld console (ps2 ps1 Dreamcast GameCube N64 nes snes gba ds 3ds psp vita wii genesis )

I always mute on my watch and my phone is also on mute ... it syncs the dnd mode. The feature you show on iOS at minute 9 also exists in samsung eco system, it's called mode and routines.

Just retired from being a developer for 40+ years. Developed for both iOS and Android and have been back and forth a couple of times over the years due to work requirements. Now that I retired from programming I've settled quite happily on iOS. Android just has too many issues for me, but at the end of the day it's all personal choice and if you prefer Android then that's the right choice for you.

regarding pdfs, it depends on the app you use for reading. some of them do remember the last page. of course, not integrated with the pc/mac but at least on the phone. regarding integration, you can setup smartthings with your watch to open/close turn on/off devices on google home or samsung smartthings, i have my samsung tv, my garage door, lights all integrated on my watch4. also regarding integration, if you have a samsung tablet you can share calls between your phone and the tablet, you share also the clipboard automatically, files like airdrop but called quickshare. i use this all the time with my tab s7 plus. also DeX mode on all the devices being able to share screen between them... samsung has been doing their homework the past 2-3 years... woking with 2 foldables (fold2 as extra carryon screen, fold4 as main phone) a tab s7 plus and a macbook pro 16in is super super smooth using these integrations and your google and samsung accounts on the mac

Best review out there, i think when we compare apples versus Samsung, most reviewers get stuck in the specs side and the cameras, however for the most users out there, the user experience and the seamless integration between different devices is more important than everything.

@PeteMatheson As an android user, I can get you around many of the problems you're facing. When ending a workout on the Samsung watch, you can press the bottom right button to bring up the menu , DND and mute are synced only if you enable so. So are work modes(sleep, drive etc) . To always have the pdf open up on the same page, use Samsung notes, which will bring up the same page just like the iphone,on the plethora of Samsung devices you have. I'm not defending android as I do admit the implementation isn't that seemless but still android does so many things so much better that I didn't ever feel the need to look back.

To me, the biggest advantage of iPhone compared to most Android phones brand is... software support. In a time when we should stop changing phones every 1, 2 or 3 years, Apple usually provides around 6 years of full support on iPhone and more... Some contact even recently got a security update for a 10 years old iPad. I don't think we'll see that on Android phones or tablets anytime soon...
@rrsharizam
@rrsharizam Жыл бұрын
Actually Apple only promises 4 years of software updates. But usually, it's supported for longer than that because of very high number of units sold. And my A71 4G already received 4 years of updates. The newer S23 is promised to be supported for 5 years. And long software update is not unique to Apple. Windows 7 was supported for 12 years. Windows XP even longer than that.
@Ejp23_
@Ejp23_ Жыл бұрын
This used to be the case, now Apple users keep their phones for multiple years and obviously the business is seeing dips in sales per year so now they are slowing down iPhones so you are forced to upgrade.

I loved this video! I wholeheartedly agree with everything you said. This is why I carry two phones. It’s not ideal and everyone doesn’t have the resources to do so. However, there are just certain things both do better than the other. I find myself using my iPhone for my primary as you explained things just work smoothly and effortlessly the first time and across all my devices in the ecosystem. But, I love the look and feel of using my android for downtime.

@@jabronicorleone6208 A lot of call dropping and a lot of complaints about poor call quality especially people hearing themselves back when they call me. Android Auto is awful compared to carplay, mainly because I've found voice recognition for siri is far superior to Google assistant, and it's very laggy too. The screen scratched day one for very little - I used an iphone 12 pro in work every day for over a year and still not a single mark on it. The camera keeps acting strange like it's jumping between different cameras on me. Notifications are better on iphone (swiping one away doesn't lose the number on the icon). Password managers are very clunky to use on Android compared to iOS. There's a few plusses too - dual sim is great and the phone is way faster, but I still think at this stage I'll go back to the iphone 12.
