My take on why the Twin Peaks season 3 finale was great. Twin Peaks the Return part 17 and part 18. Best TV ever.

The Twin Peaks season 3 finale has brought up a lot of mixed feelings and made for a lot mixed reactions. I think it was great, but that doesn't mean you are wrong if you thought that Twin Peaks s3 part 17 and 18 were terrible. David Lynch and Mark Frost delivered us a conclusion that answered some questions, but left most viewers thinking that they needed to take some time and prcoess what they were feeling.
My experience was one of many different emotions, but in the end I feel like Twin Peaks the Return will be remembered and thought about as one of the best TV events in my lifetime. That includes the two part finale where we saw Agent Dale Cooper go back and try to change something in the past. Coop set out to stop Laura Palmer from getting murdered by her father Leland, who was in fact possessed by the evil entity Bob, and once he did things changed forever. We also learned that the infamous Judy that Phillip Jeffries mentioned all those years ago in the FBI headquarters in Philadelphia, is probably inhabiting Laura's mom Sarah Palmer.
Twin Peaks season 3 was an amazing ride through the minds of David Lynch and Mark Frost. If you loved the Return's finale or absolutely hated it - you still felt something that we don't usually get from a TV series. Showtime went out on a limb revisting the 1989 series, and in my opinion they made a great choice. Even though our time with the real Dale Cooper was short, we got new mysteries to ponder for the next 25 years.
Let us know in the comments what you thought about the season 3 finale of Twin Peaks, and what you think about our take on the Return. Best TV ever? Or, biggest let down in TV history?

Hey guys, I took the day off yesterday so I lost any real chance of keeping up with the comments on this video. Just wanted to pin a comment here to let you know that I appreciate all the feedback, and even if I didn't respond I've read all the comments. As I've said you guys have made this season and the process of making these videos so much better that I have to give you credit for keeping me going. I'm working on my things you might have missed videos for part 17 and part 18 now, and then will start to pick the brains of my Patreon members to see where to go next with Twin Peaks after starting to pick up on my other shows again. I hope some of you will join us there so we can keep this going. You can find everything you need to know about it here - www.patreon.com/PetePeppers

Also want to give a big thanks to those who have already signed up on Patreon. As of now we are 35 strong and almost halfway to making the next goal and me getting a new microphone to improve the sound quality of my videos. When I decided to start this journey there, which I toiled about for months, I guessed that one tenth of one percent of subscribers would be an achievable goal. At 35 we're almost there after just one week, so I couldn't be more pleased. Thanks for your support.

The minute that coopers face was superimposed on the screen I had severe chills and then knew we were getting another bleak, ambiguous ending. The hope for closure and happy endings was dashed into the dark, confusing void and it was clear that Coop's plan was far from over. Episode 18 was honestly one of the most haunting and disturbing pieces of film I've ever seen. The alternate universe version of the characters, the shifting environments, Diane seeing her doppleganger, Judy's diner, the most disquieting sex scene in the show by far, the long uncomfortable drive, the symbolism (pale horse, 8 = infinity symbol, dark winding roads etc..) and finally the closing scene with Coop becoming aware that something is very wrong and Laura's final scream. It felt like a nightmare version of Twin Peaks, the dark subconscious of these characters and shows fundamental ideas. Whether it's an alternate reality, a fracture in time, a hallucinatory Black Lodge world, or someone's dream doesn't really matter IMO. The ideas that these last 2 episodes conjure in regards to time, death, identity, fate, dreams, loss, purpose etc.. Have made me think deeply about my own life as well as served to recontextualize everything I've seen in the show before, prompting a strong desire to re watch all 3 seasons and the Fire Walk With Me in order to better understand it's secrets. If that's not an effective piece of art I don't know what is. This 3rd season felt like an 18 hour rorschach test where our individual perception works to draw connections between many seemingly random threads and a massive range of emotions; this is all going to mean something different to everybody. But what sticks with me about Twin Peaks beyond the horror, humour and abstractions is a strong sense of sadness and loss, and human being's search to make sense of the unexplainable. What a journey this all was, I honestly hope it ends here.

Very similar reaction here. I wasn't sure what to expect with ep18, especially after 17 seemed intent to tie some things up. I find myself still thinking about it and with similar emotional responses to it. What Year is it??

J Truts this may seem nit picky but he says “what year is this”. “What year is it” implies he doesn’t know the time period. “What year is this” implies that he doesn’t know what specific time period they’re in at that moment.

I watched the whole episode with a sensation, like a precaution, something was not right. I freaked out when Laura screamed. And the scene with coop's face superimposed, holy shit. I also wanted to rewatch again, but college is a think and I don't think I can manage 3 seasons and a movie in my agenda.

To me the cry of "Laura.." from Sarah at the end was the exact same call from when Sarah first realised Laura was missing, right before she called Bobby's house to see if she had gone there. Laura hadn't heard it in the past as she was dead wrapped in plastic, but now she has been saved by Coop, she is in bed and able to hear Sarah call to her this time. Waking her. Don't forget that, despite it seeming like an impossibility, Laura and Coop had shared a dream before and I think they shared a dream here too.
@marculieriu
@marculieriu 7 жыл бұрын
Ok, so Coop saves Laura from being murdered in that night - it's just a dream, she is not killed, she screams and wakes up when Sarah calls her. But... what about Bob/Leland? He abuses his daughter countless times since she was 12 (or so we learn in her secret diary). Wouldn't have been more logical for Coop to go back in time when Leland was a child who met a certain individual named Robertson who loved to play with fire and `let him in`?! Only by preventing Bob from inhabitating Leland would Coop finally destroy the whole cycle.

@@monokai3570 Exactly. I thought she screamed bc, no matter what, Cooper can't rescue her. I think that's what she whispered to him at the end, and why he had the look of horror on his face as the credits rolled. Or maybe she whispered that he would try again and fail-repeatedly-it was a bizarre, shared, fate of karma.

But that's what we were already doing. I just didn't see the point in taking a story in need of some kind of closure and then taking it to a place that is the same, if not worse than where they left it last time. It's not the dark aspect of the end that I struggle with- ever since S03e01 I knew we were not coming out of Season 3 happy, but sadness that Cooper failed would have been something to feel. Disappointed that good did not triumph over evil is something to feel. Emptiness is non-exist-ence. It was disorienting and powerless and I hated Lynch for doing that to us, but then the muck started to settle and I started to see the larger picture and I got it... I wasn't happy with it, but I got it.

@@trutwijd I'm a gen-xer. I've always had cable. When this aired, I was paying, $90 a month for basic cable+ (+ = MTV, VH1, OWN, Sundance, ion). That quickly became too expensive, and I had to downsize to basic cable at $70. I've never been able to afford a premium channel, so, I think that was an issue for many of us. I appreciate that David wanted more money, (per Variety 2016) but my fellow 🎭 classmates don't even have TV! It would've garnered more viewers if it aired on network, and if 44 eps of "HANNIBAL" could, I feel like 18 eps of "The RETURN" could. Just my opinion.

Thanks a lot Pete. We just finished to watch the longest David Lynch movie (about 9 hours) and one of the reasons so many people are so passionate about it is that TP is an emotional as much as an intellectual journey. As life, it remains an open form and there is no such thing as a final point to it. It can never be put in a box and we must therefore learn to resist the appetite of understanding everything which is just another form of "ownership". What we own was a fabulous series of emotions, images and question marks and I feel myself very rich of this !

Thanks for your insight, Pete. I think it's fair to say the ending knocked me sideways - I had no idea it would be at least as powerful as Season Two's devolution. I can only describe how I've felt this week as a type of grief. As time has gone on, I've realised how incredible and cyclical the whole concept is - however uncomfortable and irky it is, it is always compelling. My mind will go to wonderful and strange places for a long time to come. I feel humbled to have experienced this art. Long may the fan theories and community continue!

Like Dorothy Gale, we all wish we could go back home. Back to times when we were young, naïve, innocent and safe from the evils and insanity of the adult world. But we cannot - once we grow up we cannot click our heels three times and regain what we lost one we grew up. We've seen the "Witch" and now must deal with her and her world. We cannot go home again. And like Special Agent Dale Cooper, we lose parts of ourselves along the journey through life's many mysteries.

I focus on the two big heads in the sky - Garland Briggs and Dale Cooper. I think they are the spirits of Briggs and Cooper who are outside of our physical plane. I think any theory of the meaning of all this has to start with them. The temptation is to ignore them because we don't understand them, but I think they are important. They are saying that Briggs and Cooper exist in another dimension which we can call heaven if we want. It is outside our universe and outside any other physical universe or alternate reality. So I think one of the things to hang your hat on, in this series, is that in Twin Peaks there are eternal spirits who live beyond our universe. Our universe includes Dale Cooper, Laura Palmer, Diane Evans, etc. But when Dale goes back in time in our universe and keeps Laura from getting killed by her father on a specific night, he interfered with that timeline. The story didn't choose to stay in that timeline, following all the familiar characters. It chose to jump right out of that timeline, to an alternate universe where Dale Cooper is Richard, Diane Evans is Linda, and Laura Palmer is Carrie Page. When "Diane" writes a letter to "Dale" and addresses it to Richard from Linda, I think Diane believes she is Linda because she is. I don't know why Dale doesn't know he's Richard. Laura thinks she is Carrie, so I'm thinking so too. It seems like only Richard/Dale remembers another universe in which he was Dale, not Richard. I don't know why Carrie hears Laura's mother call her name in this alternate universe, but when she does, she screams, as if her memory returns and she remembers all the terrifying things in our original universe. As for who the dreamer is, I think the dreamers are the souls in heaven, like the big head of Garland Briggs and Dale Cooper. They are the souls who have chosen to incarnate into these alternate universes to live out dreams. It doesn't make all our familiar characters out to be tulpas, but in a sense it does. The real characters are in heaven and are not named Dale Cooper or Laura Palmer or Richard or Linda or Diane. The sort-of tulpas don't react the way tulpas react in the black lodge. But I think it's pretty reasonable to consider all non-immortal, all merely physical and soon to die, characters as tulpas. Tulpas die, souls do not. Souls are the dreamers. We are the tulpas acting in those dreams. I think it dovetails with modern theoretical physics which speaks of alternate dimensions and dark matter and energy. An alternate universe qualifies as an alternate dimension and as dark matter and energy. It's right here, but our instruments and senses are unable to detect it, thus "dark". At first I though I'd have to choose between an alternate dimension theory, which seems to be the case with Richard and Linda and Carrie, and a dreamer theory because the show kept telling us of dreamers. But now I think they are the same thing and it's fine to have them both at the same time. When a soul in heaven decides to incarnate in a physical universe, what's going on can be thought of as either a dream or activity in an alternate universe. What's the difference? They are the same thing. The immortal soul in heaven creates a tulpa of himself or herself and sends it into a universe to live out the dream. That's all I got right now. Whether it is what Mark Frost and David Lynch had in mind, I have no idea.

Yes! I believe that is the entire point and a lot of people just don't get it. Lynch gives us just enough to gnaw at us, then we have to fill in the rest ourselves. It's antithetical to the way westerners typically engage (or don't engage) with art, but it's just so wonderful that there are a few artists out there who take their surrealism seriously!

Right! Twin Peaks isn't about the destination - it's about the ride. It's not about leading the viewers to some great truth - it's all about the stories and mysteries along the way. About the first major cliffhanger, as a 15 year old kid i hated it, i sat around and thought "of course theyll make another season" As time went on i changed my mind, the infamous "hows Annie?" scene is actually the one i liked the most and believed made most sense. What i mean is that they wrote themselves into a corner, if we were to get a happy ending on those premises it would be absolutely ridiculous right? When Fire Walk With Me was released it answered a fuckton of MY questions atleast, i found it mesmerizing. Especially the scene when Philip Jeffries enters the FBI office and ofc when Philip Gerard/Mike drove alongside Leland, these are still fresh in my memory as profound and creepy scenes. My mind was reeling after the shocking final scene in season 3 the return, i was frustrated. But did i expect a blueprint to the inner workings of David Lynch? Of course not. I find the entire season brilliant, i even found myself wondering if i wasted my life wishing for the wrong things. An artist provokes emotion with his art, i can honestly say i was provoked. Great content, really well done. This has been the go to channel for all my TP needs :) Cheers mate.

I also enjoyed Fire Walk With Me from the get go. I wasn’t aware of the hate for it until much later. Of course, I watched the show and movie in roughly 1992 or 1993. I didn’t get into the show until after high school and when most of my friends had moved on to college. I graduated high school in 1991. My friend Ty and I went away to college and then failed at it so we were back at our parents’ places. Ty had watched Twin Peaks before me and had a VHS recording of the first season. We watched that and at the time the only other thing available was FWWM. I had subsequently gotten my dad into Twin Peaks Season 1 by this time and we were super close so I had no intention of breaking this gem of a man’s heart when he came home having rented FWWM from the local video store. This is how I found out who ‘killed’ Laura Palmer. To recap, I watched FWWM after only having seen Season 1 on VHS and I thought that it was fantastic! I will never know the feelings of those of you who’d watched when it originally aired unless Phillip Jeffries can send me back to the day it aired originally and making sure that I don’t remember the unofficial version. Takeaways: This show changed me forever. It was the first time I realized that other people thought like me. It also taught me that my interests were not wholly unique to me. I recall being fascinated by lights turning red on lonely roads, dancing little people, heavy drapes, etc. Seeing Twin Peaks and then diving in to David Lynch’s catalogue of previous films (I’d only seen Elephant Man and Dune at that point) made me want to get into film again. I hadn’t felt this way since I was a child and I saw the Making of Star Wars shows on television. These are the two events that made me chose to pursue film as a career and I still dream of making it. I have a tv series on the desk of a major studio in Hollywood at the moment and have damn near had this series made a few times before. I have quite a few films and series that are in varying stages of development. If I ever make it, I owe it all to Twin Peaks, David Lynch, George Lucas*, and my dad. *I still think Lucas is a genius and, while I don’t write or see my directing style as being anything like his, I think he brought me so much joy throughout my life. I, like many others, became interested in film watching Star Wars and the behind the scenes stuff that played on prime time television. Think about that. Star Wars was so big that they played the Making of Star Wars on prime time television. This was my first look behind the curtain and, while part of me wishes I’d never been taught the magic trick, I was addicted to film. Finally, a jaded me (who had already been through rehab by the time I’d graduated high school and shared a few other things with Laura Palmer aside from just addiction) felt this child rear its head again when I watched Twin Peaks and saw that my brain wasn’t broken as I’d previously though (It was the 90’s! Being young during this era meant that we made everything ‘deep’ and ‘important’ as we were very self-involved). In fact, it was far from broken and more similar to a man that I find a genius: David Lynch. I’ll make it someday. I have to.

Great video, Pete. Your best yet, I think. You are insightful enough here and, maybe more importantly, level-headed and clear. I appreciate your desire to stay objective throughout your videos for this series, but there's nothing wrong with putting an opinion out there, especially if you can do it without going over the top in one direction or another, which most everyone seems to insist on doing -- not just with Twin Peaks, but just with opinions in general. I like what you had to say -- partially because I think the series and its finale were masterful for my own reasons -- but more than that I liked it because, again, it displayed that level-headedness that is so rare with this kind of editorial, and with the expression of opinions in general. Looks like Laura's purpose was the kill Judy a plan that was foiled when Bob/Leland killed her, but there was an another chance created by the White lodge 25 years later a plan that Cooper will save Laura, bring her to the lodge and later finds her in the alternate dimension/bubble world and brings her to Twin Peaks where she, when she remembers, screams which cuts out electricity and or power of the whole dimension, which kills Judy who's connection to electricity/energy is hinted the entire season. Sadly that also kills Laura and Cooper. Also In the end it looks like Coop forgot his identity, but still managed to hold on onto it long enough to bring Laura where she does what was her purpose all along.

Thank you for this video. You've managed to articulate the conclusion I've also kind of got to. The ending also reminded me of the movie Memento for some reason. *spoiler* just like the main protagonist, Cooper's already solved the mystery of Laura Palmer's death but is so obsessed with the case he goes to great lengths to replay/relive it in the hopes it will change something or give him closure, no matter how it might affect other people (including Palmer herself who was happily living with a dead man in her living room before he brought her back 😂). Unfortunately no amount of time travelling can change her tragic fate. Loved your take on TP characters stuck in time and the same can be said of Cooper, still after Laura 25 years later - looked sharp, edgy and bright minded at the time, the instinct following, dream analysing approach to policing but weird and unhinged all these years later. (just like James was cool as a teenager but sad as an adult). Thank you again for this great video.

Good commentary. I saw someone point out that Dale & crew pass by the Twin Peaks sign before the big fight with Bob, but when he brings Carrie to Twin Peaks, they enter the town via the actual bridge into Snoqualmie, WA. Huge clue. Sidenote: FWWM was actually the first of Twin Peaks that I saw and I loved it right away.

Pete, I've been following your channel since the beginning of this journey, and this was IMO the best video you've made. You hit the nail on the head: when it comes to Lynch, "what do you think happened" is never anywhere near as important as "how do you feel about it." Amid all our theorizing, what we've been so obsessed with over these last 3 months is not and never was an intellectual thing so much as an emotional thing. That is the *core* of understanding Lynch's work (and I have no idea why people are so resistant to it, as DKL has said as much many, many times).

Thank you so much, Pete. Your videos come across really selfless and not self important like other people posting videos. Your nice, easy and laid back (yet thought provoking videos) have made this season even better than it was. You put the emphasis on the show and not your reaction to the show as it is happening. I find these videos extremely self indulgent. Thank you, again and toast to you and your continued work and success.

I totally agree that the finale is partly a comment on nostalgia! Lynch has always been aware of the fanfare surrounding Twin Peaks even more so now that it has achieved cult status and I admire how he doesn't feel obligated to satisfy our nostalgia too much. While Norma and Big Ed get together in the end, he totally deconstructs the Dale Cooper we have grown to love at least 3 different ways (Dougie, Mr. C and Richard); the question of "Where's Audrey?" remains unanswered because it's not relevant. The enigmatic and preppy Audrey we all fell in love with was already gone 25 years ago. I won't be surprised if people refuse to accept Audrey's current storyline and choose to remember the Audrey from the 90s precisely because of nostalgia.

Even Norma and Big Ed's getting together was cynical, Ed was clearly Norma's second choice after she found out that here business partner was not interested in her, just her brand. The song is great, but it's kinda sarcastic... the nostalgia is hollow.

Maliah Zubir, it seems Lynch solved all storylines to at least some degree. Audrey's story was somewhat different from the rest. She was dead but her soul survived in a dream inside her transsexual son Richard's dream, which dissolved when he died. It is possibly implied that Richard was Audrey reborn as her own male semi-doppelganger, Richard's father being Cooper's doppelganger.
@Nobodyreallyatall
@Nobodyreallyatall 7 жыл бұрын
Why was Richard "transsexual"? He did have a weird vague face, like the morphing alien from Deep Space 9. Audrey did seem to exist only as "nostalgia", maybe this was a reaction to how Showtime reportedly didn't want the show to feature a "middle aged" Audrey. I think that is a shame that Lynch didn't want to use Audrey in a real way, I thought middle aged spoiled brat cougar Audrey might be fascinating to write about.

Great work throughout the series Pete. We all have our own interpretations and expectations about the story, and we all have our own versions of what a season four would be like. While I doubt there will ever be a season four, I know that sometimes on those lazy afternoons to come when my thoughts wander, I will be constructing yet another version in my head. For me, that is the legacy of Twin Peaks, a universe of endless possibility, and yet one with hidden pitfalls and surprises. It just doesn't get any better.

Hey Pete - I just wanted to say I've been keeping up with your videos between each of the Twin Peaks 3 episodes and I've really enjoyed them (and the series too of course). I really loved the last 2 episodes and was happy to see some plot threads being resolved and more mysteries being created to keep us all chatting further. I think this is the beauty of the Lynch "dreamlike" stuff for me: you can keep rewatching it and finding new clues or drawing further comparisons between seperate objects, scenes and characters. I always loved the Lost Highway, Mulholland Drive and Inland Empire films and each time I watch them I seem to solve one mystery and create another. I'm glad that Twin Peaks 3 seemed to draw on ideas from those films and whilst S3 filled me with nostalgia (links to S1, S2 and FWWM) I found it to be a very unique experience.

Great thoughts Pete, and your analysis of nostalgia and yearning is supported by multiple key elements we saw in season 3. I think of Ben Horne and his speech about that bike from his childhood... I think of Rebekah Del Rio's song (co-written by Lynch) and the yearning to go back to "where it all began"... and even the reprisal Audrey's Dance which was earnest but abruptly interrupted. Time marches on... loves are lost, and but a few are found.

Pete, that was a very nice, beautiful 'read' of the finale that you just expressed. I interpreted the 18th episode/Carrie material to be the devastated life of a person who survived rape/incest/abuse and had repressed the memories, hence not knowing the home she grew up in and only flashing back violently when she hears her mother's voice. So while Cooper may have saved Laura Palmer her life still didn't turn out that great (dead body in the living room) and was likely one set on a trajectory of a drugs, violence and abuse long before he changed the course of history in February of 89. I think in the end it's Lynch/Frost reminding us that this type of life never turns out well.

I had a great time watching Twin Peaks this past summer. I feel David finally got the recognition he deserves. For years the critics panned him on several of his movies. This series was like David saying 'OK, I'm going to help you out on how I see things. If you want an answer, the biggest answer was Coop saying ''What year is this?'. Lynch is a mix between Fellini, Hitchcock, and Ed Wood, with some of his own insight of how he views life, transferred to a screen, thrown into the recipe People have 18 episodes to diagnose, all I can say is good luck with that.

Twin Peaks The Return was a rollercoaster of emotions and visuals, and this is exactly what I wanted, because this is what Lynch wants, and he achieved all of this in a way I never thought possible. Twin Peaks (for me) is basically the idea of creativity and build around it is the illusion of a coherent story. And David Lynch knows that what he's doing is pure art that can be identified in different ways, like there's a gap between his work and the audience, and that's why he always leaves things open in the end.

Pete, you've just described those feelings and thoughts which I was tongue-tied to tell myself about. The finale happened exactly at the same period when I was digesting personal events of the last month; I now see them as a result of the long sequence of much smaller, yet very important events. The idea that a slight change in this sequence, in this or that moment, could have made some things for the better, it was just bugging me. But the point is NO, it couldn't! And I guess this is exactly what came to mind after whatching this horrific scene of Laura's scream and gazing into the following end titles. Everything is just great as it is. There are movies about the importance of choice and changes, like Mr.Nobody or The Butterfly Effect or Donnie Darko, but Twin Peaks from now on will be the greatest poem highlighting this theme. As a thing-in-itself, the whole saga leaves a bunch of questions concerning the plot, I like speculations and theories, but, well, we have already learned enough stuff from the series in order to figure out what it's all about, morally. Sorry for my English:)

Pete, I fully agree with your assessment of the finale completely. I think this is one of your best TP videos. Yes, I was disappointed with the final hour like I'm sure everyone else - I thought it could have been better - too many unnecessary scenes of driving, walking to cars, etc. I was hoping for an ending on the caliber of the awesome Episode 8 and didn't get it. However - I didn't expect things to be all wrapped up with a bow on top. I fully expected to find myself sitting back on my couch saying "What the HELL??" - and that's just what happened. And that's exactly how life is - nothing ever goes as you think it will or goes how you plan. Most things end like the ending of the Return - unsatisfying and opened-ended with you wishing you could go back and change things so they will, as Cooper tried to do. WE all are Special Agent Dale Cooper - and like Cooper we dream for things to be perfect but they end up with up being confused and disappointed. What year is it indeed.

TY for your uploads - you've the only recaps/reviews/opinions (of this show) that I can actually tolerate. LOL I know that doesn't sound like a compliment but trust me, it is. :) Also Thank you for explaining the Audrey phenomena. It did not happen in Australia so I've been really confused as to why so many people want Audrey to be significant when she wasn't in the show. Wasn't significant I mean - not wasn't in the show. x] I actually thought it must have been a much later phenomena but there you have it. I loved the entire season and am with the idea that "now we know what happened to Briggs and Jeffries". I got a serious sense of dread when we saw Coop's face imposed over the scene at the sheriff's dept and that dread did not end with Laura's absolutely chilling scream. I think there are a lot of people "living in a tin can (far above the world?)" like Jeffries, hence the factory-like image of ... more tin cans. Lynch is a true artist I think. I don't like all his work but I love this piece.

Hey Pete, I think it was a great idea to express one’s personal feelings regarding the Twin Peaks experience and I appreciated what you had to say. My relationship with Twin Peaks begins several years after the first run of the show. I had a film teacher who was a diehard Twin Peaks fan and had us watch an abridged version of seasons 1, 2 and the full Fire Walk With Me. We basically followed just the A and B story lines. It was there that I became riveted by the show, characters and its themes. I remember the episode where Bob leaves Leland’s body and his soul travels into the owl. Later on that day, I was on my way to work and saw a random person wearing a Bob “Have You Seen This Man” t-shirt. I remember thinking how deeply affected I was by the whole experience, how this fictional story seemed to really take hold of me. I too liked Fire Walk With Me. It’s really two movies in one. First, you have the Chet Desmond storyline, which for the most part was lighter of the two. Second, you had Laura Palmer’s storyline, which was devastating to watch and brilliantly acted by Sheryl Lee. As we know, the statistics are staggering regarding sexual abused woman. That fact alone is extremely dark and horrifying. Yet, we have this zany show about this wonderfully rich world of Twin Peaks. It reminds me of the opening scene of Blue Velvet. We have the Norman Rockwell’esk open with families and firemen waving and then the camera goes deep underground, way down into the dirt where we hear the insect kingdom violently battle for supremacy. Lynch is a master of showing us to contrasting worlds. I watched season 3 religiously and listened to your KZbin show on my way to work. This way I felt connected to the Lynch universe and was able to put words to what I was watching. I could blather on and on but I think this is a good place to stop.
