@@bussin1337 you can tell who has never owned a business yet thinks they know things. There are 2 ways you can make money from your business, one is to pay yourself a salary and the other is to take a dividend. The "net profit" STILL BELONGS TO THE BUSINESS. SMH.

@@matisan8407 Not quite. Salary is a cost of doing business and so is taken before corporation tax is calculated. Dividends are post-profit. The most tax-efficient way for a business owner to pay themselves is with a mix of salary and dividends. So you appoint yourself CEO or Managing Director, pay yourself a salary like an employee (because you are), and then also pay all shareholders (including yourself) a dividend out of the company's profits.

I think his point is that if after salary costs a company makes no money then from an investors point of view the company is worth not much. But obviously people need money to survive hence 'That's a good answer, but still not good enough." ie it doesn't change the valuation dilemma from the lack of profit.

I love that Peter immediately dropped it when he realized the salary was 60,000 for two people. I was thinking 30,000 for a person working very hard in a successful business is acceptable, so I was starting to get annoyed with Peter grilling him about his lifestyle before he realized. I would have had the same concern as him if they were taking $120,000 in salaries.

This is about as perfect a pitch and product as I have ever seen in the den. There were none of the usual setbacks you see here like shakey patents or dodgy numbers, the guy knew what he wanted and which dragons could provide it, and even Peter's grilling over the what Robert was paying himself was due to a mistake on Peter's part. I almost feel this went too smoothly lol.

a lot of that comes down to the producers. they demand a certain amount of "fumbles" in the den per season, where they really edit some of the pitches to make people seem like absolute idiots, and exaggerate any mistakes they make with numbers by using specific camera shots or music stings. on the flipside they also have to be seen to be giving some people a chance. u never know, there couldve been a huge disagreement over the branding or IP or numbers that we just didnt see.

Liz Clegg as much as they are the dragons the guys his technique is clear, he specifically is appealing to them as humorous and creating a relationship. The Tesco joke for example, the touker you have been quiet. It is a risky tactic to play because it you pull of confidence too well it turns into arrogance, but this guy shouldn’t have to be nervous or anything, he has got a business and if you pitched a real business to investors trembling they wouldn’t want any of it

Mr_Glibb Well.. He said that 250k breads sold gives a profit of 70k but he said that bcs of that they, him and his partner, have a salary they are not making a profit. In reality they should make 10k in profit bcs it was 30k each not 60k each in salary. Why didn't he say that? For that reason I'm out. :)

Like it too - didn't get flustered or annoyed, clearly, he did his research about the show format. Also quick thinking, sense of humor (Tesco line) and new his numbers. He kept conversation going with the dragons, they could see he thinks along the same lines. Also when asked about changing branding, he was ok with it, which shows he respects advice and would be good business partner.

More Accurate Title: "Peter Temporarily Misunderstands Businessman's Words" I don't mind a bit of exaggeration in the titles, but misrepresenting the situation like this spreads maliciously incorrect information because anyone who doesn't actually watch the video will think this nice man is embezzling when he's not. I wonder why Touker nearly always loses out. He usually puts in a good pitch and he´s got plenty of useful assets, Peter, whom most seem to want, actually - by his own words - simply passes you over to "his people". Whoever they may be.

thats not the goal to make a couple grand from an investor, it is to lower equity as low as possible, if a business makes 100 million, and your investor takes 10% then thats 10 MIL, if it is 20 then 20 MIL
