Peter Brock Tribute Lap Bathurst 2016 By Phil Brock

Gee 13 years on and just like all other 12 years and now 13, myself and many others take the opportunity to re live our great bloke, Peter Brock and flash back to some of the incredible moments Brocky gave us. Here we have Phil doing a tribute lap and so good to see, after the years that have past, as he cruises around the great Mt Panorama, fantastic sight to see people all over the 6.213km circuit standing and to wave and cheer the iconic Brocky Commodore with Phil at the wheel and can guarantee, Phil was just itching to let the idle off and let it roar. Had to laugh near the start of this video, bout 7 seconds in, where Phil says... "TAKE A RISK" :-) Reason for that, not that many years ago i lost by dad, who was a speed nut, dam good driver and always full of shits and giggles. One thing he would say to people, and it didnt matter where he was, but so many people when departing say a cafe or departing from visiting, would say..."Take Care, Drive safe".. well my old many would say.... "...F..k it, take a risk", absolutely throws people of guard but a classic line in my ears.

Yeah i met PB when I was a kid at the Mobil 500 in Wellington, my Dad's business at the time sponsored a Kiwi guy in a Cortina so I scored a pit pass. Peter was the only driver I wanted to meet. I think I was 8 or 9 yrs old, I was so stoked!!!

...must be only me i think...Peter's brother Phil doesn't remind me of Peter one bit, other than he could steer a steering wheel almost as good as Peter...his other brother Lewis seems to be much more like Peter was...though i only spoke briefly with Peter Brock twice in his life as a motorsport fan.

I just dont get all the hype and reverence for Brock...He only Won races when he had the fastesf car and team as most drivers would.(similar to Johnson)..as soon as he didnt...he couldnt win a race...The likes of Longhurst used to win races in his little BMW (Brock tried to in one, but couldnt win) and i would put Longhurst over Brock as a better driver....Yea...i just dont get the Brock hype....Was he a good driver? Imo Yes....but just average....His strength was putting his name on everything hence creating a "Brand"...sure it was good marketing....but thats about it
