This film has the most iconic scene in Vampires film history. It's what Van Helsing, Peter Cushing, does after the vampire has bitten him. I love the English actors because they don't play it with a wink, they play it for real. The Leading Lady is a little too naive for my taste. However, the actors are first-rate. Peter Cushing is an amazing actor. I like the fact that he seems to have a crush on the naive Leading Lady. The Vampires' mother is also an extraordinary actress as well. And the cute little dark-haired teacher is probably the most iconic looking bride of Dracula. To bad about the quality of the film because for those of us who enjoy Dracula. this would have been a nice experience. See if you can find another copy, and tell us what you think then.👍

My Top 5. Peter Cushing Performances. (26 May 1913 -11 August 1994) RIP 1: Dr. Terror’s House of Horrors (1965) - I’m a big fan of anthology films, and this is no exception. Cushing’s dark demeanor makes for an interesting play against Christopher Lee’s strait-laced skeptic. 2: The Hound of the Baskervilles (1959) - My favorite Sherlock Holmes story see Cushing in the titular role of the world’s greatest detective. 3: The Curse of Frankenstein (1957) - Strange experiments with the dead has never been so much fun. A classic film with superb performances. 4: Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977) - Was there any doubt this would make the top 5? A legend in a legendary series. Enough said. 5: Horror of Dracula (1958) - Cushing vs Lee. Two fine gentlemen telling a tale as old as time. A must-see for any horror fan!

Always think of this as really a Van Helsing stand alone movie, a great wee film & it proves Hammer could've made a few more in a series of films before he eventually faced his arch enemy Dracula once more & as a side note, I would've had him meet Dracula _at least_ one more time before the events of Ad 72. And It's interesting that while David Peel's Baron Meinster, the vampire villain of this particular story, is no match for the sheer power & charisma of Christopher Lee's malevolent count, he is still genuinely creepy & if nothing else, he actually manages to achieve something even the legendary count _failed_ to do, which was to _bite_ Van Helsing himself!

The Brides of Dracula is the best of the eight sequels to the 1958 Hammer film, Horror of Dracula, even though the legendary Count is nowhere in sight. Instead of a blood shot eyed Christopher Lee with blood dripping from his fangs, we are given a rather foppish villain in David Peel as he attempts to seduce French beauty, Yvonne Monlaur. It was rather a bold move by Hammer to make a sequel to Horror of Dracula without Dracula, but it works surprisingly well. This is largely due to the performance of Peter Cushing, reprising his role as Dr. Van Helsing from the previous film. Cushing's specialty was obsessive authority figures; during this time period he also played Baron Frankenstein. Yet, despite their superficial similarities, his Frankenstein and Van Helsing are worlds apart. Cushing's Frankenstein is an extremely cold and distant man, who believes that the end justifies the means (even if it involved murder). He is so detached from mankind that, in Frankenstein Created Woman, when an acquaintance of his is beheaded for a murder (that he didn't commit), the Baron is ecstatic that he finally has a corpse to test his latest hypothesis, the transference of the soul, on. He feels no remorse over the death of a friend, but rather just views it as an opportunity. On the other hand, Cushing's Van Helsing, despite his obsessive behavior, is capable of warmth and compassion; in Horror of Dracula, he comforts a little girl (who was nearly a vampire victim) by wrapping his coat around her, putting a crucifix around her neck, and telling her that the sun will be be a couple of minutes. In Brides of Dracula, when it schoolmaster Herr Lang starts to berate Marianne (Yvonne Monlaur) for being late on the job, Van Helsing explains her predicament and, simultaneously, puts Herr Lang in his place. It's also interesting to note that The Brides of Dracula may be the only film in which Peter Cushing gets the woman in the end (well, kind off), but more on that later.

most history book - I disagree , Taste the Blood of Dracula was the best sequel despite your sarcasm and even Dracula AD 1972 mainly because of its great soundtrack ! Think your dislike of the late great Sir Christopher Lee is because of the attraction women had for him ! I suggest you get over it already .
@xhagast Жыл бұрын
I don't know about OBSESSIVE but he played bosses like nobody else. Tarkin in Star Wars was very good. In Horror Express he navigated a corrupt system while Christopher Lee was about to get himself arrested for assaulting a station chief in righteous indignation. In The Skull he laughed at the supernatural while living of selling books on it. His Baron Frankenstein was so cool and amoral he was scary.

I was searching just now for a clear copy of this and of course good ole KZbin has it for sale or rent. Funny how every great movie ever made is for sale or rent no matter how very old they are, while new movies are mostly free and abundant. Why? Because these old movies were and still are great and they know it-otherwise these new piles of junk out there, would be for sale or rent as well. Once in a while KZbin will get generous and post some greats for free. And while most of us have probably seen these old greats ( like this one) a million times ( or at least once) they still want money to see them. I understand their position, I’m just saying it proves how awesome these still are. I’m not saying that no new movies are good, that’s just silly-but some of the insults out there that they call movies, are just that. They actually could do with a new genre for them. What can we call it? How about- Don’t Waste Your Time? - I give people full credit for trying their hand at the art of film, and why not? Everyone deserves a chance, not just the rich like in the old days. I love that, but some of it? It has no place in the world of film and never will. Like I said- how about a genre for them? That way when I see that genre listed on a given channel etc., I can AVOID it!😂 all in good fun right?
