Tell me about it...this song helped me get through 2019, a year of a rollercoaster of emotions for me. January: started dating for the first time ever March: first professional recording sessions with my band June: discovering ASMR for the first time which helped me through a lot of my struggles with anxiety July-August: got my first job ever, working part time at a grocery store September: nastiest breakup with that same person who I started dating that Jan. Was so emotional as it was my first ever relationship. That hurt so much, being a sensitive person. December: quit my first job thinking I can find another job soon, then COVID would hit three months later. 0:05 The soft, twinkly keyboard notes, synth swells and Stewart Copeland's hi-hat work serve as a reminder of the good times, whilst knowing you're entering the next stage of your journey. 0:21 Tony Levin's bass slide down just adds to the dramatic emotional aspect of the song for me, acknowledging built up anger and frustration. 0:30 The drum fill which marks Gabriel's entrance with the vocals and piano chords is a release of all of that pain. I’m not sure there is a better produced song than this. Peter Gabriel's song is an existential and spiritual allegory that explores the heartache and suffering that people experience throughout their lives. The red rain symbolizes the pain and trials that each individual endures in their lives, and the chorus speaks of the inevitability of that pain - it is coming down and there is nothing you can do to stop it. In the stanzas, the narrator stands on the edge of the "water" of this pain, unable to interact or do anything other than feel its power, like a storm that cannot be stopped or denied. The bridge is then about the letter actually finding the strength to face the rain and accept it, to understand that it is part of life and to trust it like a child. The final chorus prays for strength and acceptance in these times so that the narrator can emerge on the other side of the ordeal. It is an emotional and powerful track that addresses the dark side of life and encourages the listener to have hope and be resilient in the face of adversity. The song is a combination of multiple inspirations. The lyrics directly reference a recurring dream Gabriel had in which he was swimming in his backyard pool and drinking cold red wine. In another version of the dream, bottles shaped like people were seen falling off a cliff. Inside, a stream of red liquid oozed from the human-shaped bottles as they hit the ground upon impact, and was usually followed by a heavy downpour of the same red liquid. At the beginning of his solo career, Gabriel had an idea for a film that he called “Mozo.” In it, the villagers were punished for their sins with blood-red rain. “Red Rain” was supposed to be the theme song. This idea was eventually scrapped, although Mozo was mentioned in the song "On the Air" in Peter Gabriel (1978). “Down the Dolce Vita”, “Here Comes the Flood” and “Exposure” also refer to the Mozo story. The heavily percussive song features two notable American drummers: Police's Stewart Copeland played the hi-hat for the rain-like background sound and was requested by Gabriel due to his mastery of the instrument, while the rest of the drumming was provided by Gabriel's regular drummer Jerry Marotta. Songfacts: This was inspired by a recurring dream where Gabriel was swimming in a sea of red water. Gabriel explained to Mojo magazine September 2013: "'Red Rain' was written after a dream I'd had about the sea being parted by two walls. June 30th, 1986. My best friend, Jeff, RIP, and I were in Cincinnati to see the Grateful Dead. We had scored some LSD in the parking lot, and gone inside the ampitheater to wait for the show to start. It was a beautiful, sunny day. As I laid down on the grass, enjoying the sunshine, this music began playing on the PA system. I remember thinking, " cool, this must be Peter Gabriel's new album, coming out today. What a treat. Just saw this live this past Saturday at the united center in Chicago. There aren't many words to describe how good the show was. When this song came on as others have said when Tony's base and Manu's drums hit WOW! If you've never been around a grenade or bomb when it goes off (your very lucky) its the only thing that comes close to what I felt I was dead center sec 106 seat 10 and POW! This song live that night just indescribably incredible. I had the same feeling at his show at Poplar Creek back in 83' and every show in between' what an artist.

Spotify tends to pay better than their competition. Phil Collins ain't complaining and he's had more commercial success and has the most to gain from withholding if the compensation wasn't fair. Only Taylor Swift complains but she's a brat.

+UHFStation1 do not forget Coldplay, they also complain. Personally, I do not have any music streaming program (use to listen to iTunes Radio until it ended). It actually buy CD's, LP's (ones that I collect the most of), and digitally on iTunes.
