the idea that a man can have empathy for a culture, race, struggle, their courage, and skulpt a work of art that captures a spirit so clearly, is masterful at an extremely high "spiritual level". So thankful that there are human beings that actually pierce the veil of what a money driven industry feeds and is able to reach the masses in true form through all the worthless crap they swim and are covered in. My God, we are so lucky for beings like this, for without them life would be so fictional that it would not be worth living. Thank you Peter Gabriel for never giving up and always giving of your deepest heart to this world. We so embrace you for helping us see ourselves and others in your art. Miracle.

I lived and guided people through that desert on horses, after clearly and preparing the trails for the season. Datura, cactus, Joshua trees, rattlesnakes, hawks, eagles and coyotes rule. I saw Peter Gabriel in 1993 and again in 2012. Indeed he has a presence. Very spiritual! My brother saw him in 1982 and said he thought he was Jesus. I kind of blew him off thinking he was on mushrooms.Now I’ve heard of so many with these experiences when seeing him, myself included. He has been a major part of my life from 1982 until now. I’m so moved by his music. I have sung his lyrics while working and let me tell you, people look at me very strange. Too bad. I get joy from him!

Amazing track! Probably the most fascinating of ''Peter Gabriel IV'' with the synth sequence introduction repeated throughout. Regrettably, this masterpiece is not included in the CD version. For the anecdote, I lived in Rome in 1993. Peter was to perform at Palasport Roma. I had my ticket, but a son of b....stole my car just two hours before. I never got my car back, but I did not care. I was insured. Actually, missing this historic concert was an absolute catastrophe. But thank God, there are videos available. I remain totally amazed by Tony Levin's performance on Chapman Stick. The version in the live album from 1983 is also worth listening to. Eternal admiration and respect.

Gabriel was inspired. Having spent some time in the American Southwest, this song holds special meaning to me. Its haunting melody invokes an intense image of the high Jemez mountains of New Mexico. From there I used to gaze across the mesa toward the Parajito, (or Little Bird) plateau. When I close my eyes and listen to this mystical piece of music, I can still smell the pinion trees and the pine scented canyons and bluffs which were once the Holy Lands of Anasazi tribes. As I listen, I can almost see them, the medicine men performing their ancient rituals beneath the surrealistic skies of the Sangre de Christos.

"Taste it in my mouth and in my heart" "-- refers to venim. The indigenous people's of San Jacinto Mountains (the Apache, I think) had a rite of passage for young men, about 14 years old. They would be forced to climb the mountain, purposely take a rattlesnake bite, and make their way back down the mountain on their own, preferably still alive. It was a way of saying if you can survive that, you have special power.

@studioannur2213 жыл бұрын
@@JaredJonesAZ You may want to listen to Peter Gabriel himself talk about the song instead of relying on internet bullshit. The lyrics was partially INSPIRED by (meaning NOT literal) a story relayed to him by an Apache man from Arizona who was then working as a bellboy at a Minneapolis hotel where Peter was staying. Peter never claimed that San Jacinto was the name of the mountain where the man had the rite performed. The lyrics to the song reflect the struggle between indigenous identity and modern white culture which he witnessed while visiting the Riverside area in southern California in the 1970s. The song is just that- a song. It’s not a documentary.
@studioannur2213 жыл бұрын
@@JaredJonesAZ I stand by what I said as well. This is the perfect example of over-sensitivity and political correctness taken much to far by people of privilege. When you’ve got unarmed black men and women being lynched by vigilantes wearing police uniforms or shot up in a church, brown kids being thrown in cages because their parents sent them across the border, and you’re more worried about largely improvised lyrics to a song that hardly anyone outside the Peter Gabriel fan base has even heard of, much less heard, and probably wouldn’t be the least bit bothered by if they did; something is very wrong with American society.

the battle of san jacinto was general sam houston's final rout of the mexican army out of texas in the 1830s. peter gabriel a genius for all that that entails, the thought put into his shows is mind bendingly great. i can't imagine the brain power. i recognized his singular creativity way back in his genesis days. i've been a huge fan ever since.
