in my opinion, one of his best songs. I've read somewhere that the inspiration came from the people tortured by the dictatorships in chile and argentina. As an argentinian myself, that's beautiful. but at the same time, the lyrics actually mean a lot to me in another personal level. peter is a brilliat composer who could touch your soul with music. truly one of the last of his kind. this version is a masterpiece

This complete live show (New Blood/ Live in London) is terrific. Check it out vk.com/video-68266123_171100404 Podemos hablar en cristiano. Yo Español, de Ferrol, en Galicia. Abrazo Lucio. San Jacinto también está tremenda con cuerdas y al final cuando refleja la luz, muy emocionante. The Washing of the Waters está preciosa también, y las versiones de Boy in the Bubble (Paul Simon) o The Book of Love (Magnetic Fields) para mí superan las originales. El concierto entero con orquesta es increíble. Determinante y desde que lo escuché, recurrente

I was around 16 when this song found me. I didn't know the real inspiration for this song at the time, but I got stuck/thrown into a kinda creepy rehab for showing up to school totally drunk. I'd been drunk maybe three times in my life, had never smoked weed or done any other drugs so I don't think I had an "addiction problem", but at the same time, I sort of remember throwing up either on or near our assistant principle, and since my Dad was an alcoholic my Mom (I think) overreacted and BOOM...I literally turned 16 in a rehab. There wasn't any physical or mental abuse, but there was something about their therapy that was just...off. It's hard to explain but it was like pecking party and it disturbed me a lot but I wanted the F out of there so I went along with it. It was a great place to met people over 21 that liked doing drugs but that was the only benefit. This is what made it creepy.. So the place was basically a front for Narconon, who, in turn are a Scientology shill. They didn't throw me on an e-meter or anything like that but they TOTALLY had a controlling, bullbaiting, icky vibe on the surface and you could sense a darker undercurrent beneath waiting like a trap. This song saved me from that.

I just saw Peter’s show November 18 in Austin. It was great. I have loved this song since the Security album. It’s lyrics also can be interpreted for a person confined in depression. It helped me then, his singing. “Hold on!” The NEW BLOOD live is so very expressive and beautiful.

One of the best songs ever from one of the best albums ever. Security! When you hear songs like Red rain and Wallflower you think of people being murdered or tortured in Central America but sometimes his songs can be a metaphor for his mental condition at the time or for a ruined relationship. This is incredible here.

I love wallflower. It can be understood in so many ways I think I even dedicated it to a friend of mine who passed away at the early age of 33 for he had burnt himself out being an overachiever I feel that some of his business partners weren't always on the same page which made double work for him what does girlfriend and wrecked his truck all in that same week so I think of him sometimes about that song but I've also thought of other things with wallflower I hope you can make other songs like it

[Verse 1] 6 by 6 from wall to wall Shutters on the windows, no light at all Damp on the floor, you got damp in the bed They're trying to get you crazy, get you out of your head And they feed you scraps and they feed you lies To lower your defences, no compromise Nothing you can do, the day can be long Your mind is working overtime, your body's not too strong [Pre-Chorus] Hold on, hold on Hold on, hold on Hold on, hold on [Chorus] They put you in a box so you can't get heard Let your spirit stay unbroken, may you not be deterred Hold on, you have gambled with your own life And you face the night alone While the builders of the cages Sleep with bullеts, bars and stone They do not see your road to freedom That you build with flesh and bonе [Verse 2] They take you out and the light burns your eyes To the talking room, it's no surprise Loaded questions from clean white coats Their eyes are all as hidden as their Hippocratic Oath They tell you how to behave, behave as their guest You want to resist them, you do your best They take you to your limits, they take you beyond For all that they are doing there's no way to respond [Pre-Chorus] Hold on, hold on [Chorus] They put you in a box so you can't get heard Let your spirit stay unbroken, may you not be deterred Hold on, you have gambled with your own life And you face the night alone While the builders of the cages Sleep with bullets, bars and stone They do not see your road to freedom That you build with flesh and bone You might also like Intruder (New Blood Version) Peter Gabriel Sledgehammer Peter Gabriel Eat Your Young Hozier [Outro: Peter Gabriel & Ane Brun] Though you may disappear, you're not forgotten here And I will say to you, I will do what I can do You may disappear, you're not forgotten here And I will say to you, I will do what I can do And I will do what I can do And I will do what I can do

I guess I've heard too many songs telling the world about the injustices done to the brave and the poor, way back in the 80s. When MTV had gotten huge and so had concerts that got broadcasted to hundreds of millions of people, pop gods seemed to feel obliged to raise their voices for the unlucky ones and oh how did us lucky ones love them for it. It became a fashion, then almost a nuisance, there's been jokes about Michael Jackson, Sting or Bono trying so hard to save the world. After a while, the fashion, like all fashion before, faded, the injustice remained - unsung. Listening to our old heroes still singing these kind of songs today embarrasses me. Look at what we've done to the world, to ourselves, in the past 40 years. You poets and bards have wasted your talents on us.

Funny. I keep getting comments from 'conservatives' who are either propagandists for authoritarian regimes (like Putin, Xi or Trump) or simply let other people tell them what to think. Why they come to a site that features someone like Peter Gabriel is beyond me. They completely miss his message! LOL
