I'm 66 years old, but I listen to Peter Green with the greatest pleasure, especially this piece that relaxes you and makes you float in heaven, maybe right next to him (R I P)

Yeah, but remember, Snowy White is taking the lead here.

I’m a fan of both Peter and Snowy. However, I’d say this is Snowy playing the lead. Great version. 👍

Good to read it from the man himself. Studying Peter Greens guitar playing is my life work for already more than 50 years. I recently studied the technique of Snowy White (see my recent version of Slabo Day on my Channel) and this version has some typical "Snowy White techniques" and tone combinations, which Peter Green definitely never used. .

Of all 'Days' recorded, this Slabo is the best👌

There seems to be two different guitars and solos here. What is Snowy's lead seems to be the middle part. Until 1:54 there seems to be unmistakably Peter playing. Then it's like there is a switch of guitar tone, until approximately from 3:14, or a little later, where a Peter-like sound kicks in, also added with some deep throut like 'ehmm' sounds in the background, quite the way Peter used to "humm" along his playing in the early years. Is this a track that was taped but not chosen for the album? What is your thoughts about the divided guitar sounds? This doesn't seem like one single guitar floating through from start to finish.
@constantinosvenis54325 жыл бұрын
That is the style of leading of Snowy White for sure as it is the sound as well.. Green's is different.

I know what the voice says, but it sure sounds like Snowy's lead style. If it is Peter, he really had some of his chops still at this point. Far more than when he came back with The Splinter Group... You can still hear his genius getting from his head to his hands which just wasn't the case later on... I think in general the "In The Skies" album was possibly the last time, recorded, that "he still had it." I do love this song! Even if the haunting melody is indicative of the tragedy of his fall from grace... Very soul-stirring and poignant!
@IronMonkee10 жыл бұрын
Ohh those are peter's bends and vibrato's without a doubt! plus this was 1979 he was still playing with other bands before hand without being credited so he still had some magic left in him.. i swear i had this one on reply all day, i really had to soak it up since him actually trying to solo by himself after his fleetwood mac run is so damn rare.. I'm sure there is other recordings and i would do anything to hear them lol
@JimiMac10 жыл бұрын
clikityclak Oh I tend to concur... I just think it's rather amazing that he seemed to draw on Snowy's style and assimilate himself to fit to him so well, much like he did with Danny back in the day... He still had it for sure!

I figure he found that Snowy's rhythm and groove was best fitted for the feel of the song, His playing is pretty spooky in this rendition i wonder what he had on his mind.. haha

@vanu496 ай бұрын
No, he's not. I thought that too but Snowy White himself pointed that out to me. Peter is saying: "TAPE it this time".
@MrJonsonP10 жыл бұрын
99% sure this isn't Peter on lead... the style is EXACTLY the same as Snowy's playing on the usual Slabo Day. We might 'want' it to be Peter but his playing around this time (though still great) wasn't as confident, flowing or flashy as this. Check out Peter's lead playing on Crying Won't Bring You Back (from about the same time) - more restrained and melodic.
@vanu4910 жыл бұрын
I know that you have a point, but Snowy is very much influenced by Peter. I know Peters'playing at that time was different, but maybe he had a good day...:) anyway, tks for your comment.
@mmandmm910 жыл бұрын
Have to agree with MrJonson...this is Snowy on lead. Nothing wrong with that! Snowy's birthday is March 3rd, David Gilmour's is March 6th. Mine is the 4th. And, today, is Peter's 68th birthday.
@MrJonsonP10 жыл бұрын
mmandmm9 Indeed nothing wrong with Snowy's playing at all, but it is a shame we never got to hear Peter play this one. Quite amusing you mention those birthdays, mine is the 5th March...!

MrJonsonP Small world! I'm an astrologer, so I tend to pay attention to stuff like that. Peter's natal chart would make for a great intro into how astrology works. He has SEVEN planets in his 4th house (tenderness and sensitivity...his shyness) and four are in intense Scorpio and the other three, including his Venus are in expansive Sag. His playing always was able to combine going into great emotional depth (Scorpio), yet rise Phoenix-like with great joy and hope (Sag).

Two great guitarists but peter always liked to step back from the lead and give a bit of space to the other guitar. look at fleetwood mack.
@mikeyoungman34906 жыл бұрын
Agreed. Like you said, you can see it in some of the early Mac footage. I read a comment from Peter Green where he responded about stepping back. "This is about the kid, watch the kid" (In reference to Danny Kirwan)

@asphaalanx9 жыл бұрын
+nyg1954 Given Snowy had stated that he doesn't send comments on the internet I'll wager that he doesn't have his own account; Pauline White is likely to be a member of Snowy's family. Cheers.
