Peter Hickman explains the 2019 BMW S 1000 RR Shiftcam technology

#Techtalk The newly designed, four-cylinder engine is the new #RR power train. Not only was the peak output increased to 152 kW (207 hp) at 13,500 rpm, but the torque curve was also optimized. And thanks to the new BMW ShiftCam technology, which selects the valve opening time and the valve lift by means of camshaft, even in low and medium engine speed ranges significantly more torque and power is applied. Maybe they were asking the same question because I’m pretty sure peter Hickman himself said in an interview they didn’t utilise the shift cam tech during the race. Still...the tt ain’t the place to be doing shakedowns on new engine technology

Does the pin keep moving up and down after it locks the cam in position is that why the valve train so noisy?

Suzuki came out with their vvt system in 2017 which is mechanical and legal in all racing organizations. This bmw technology would not be legal in moto gp which doesn't allow electronic, hydraulic or oil pressure activated cam phasing.

Suzuki is certainly more reliable without a doubt, plus it operates 100% more seamlessly. BMW is on/off with 2 lobes, while Suzuki is continuously variable since it's only 1 lobe.
