I have been shooting wildlife and events video with my Canon 5Ds for over a month now, I also plunged in my Tascam mixer with a shotgun microphone into the Canon 5Ds mic jack and the audio / video was fantastic. Was it better than A/V I have shot with my 1DX or 5DM2, no, it was just fantastic. I also tested my Canon 5Ds against my Hasselblad H3 and well, I didn't expect Canon 5Ds to beat Hasselblad and I probably never will.

I like the camera but I prefer less light on the subject or at least natural light as the eyes on the models is showing the light reflection ? this loses a lot of the eye colour.? Although I do like my Nikon d90 which is still a high selling camera and takes very good photos I am looking forward to trying a second hand canon eos 5ds which is coming my way!

Great video and I want to buy a camera for my needs. I am an Appraiser and photograph historical documents, old movie posters, copy photos (negatives) and some I want to reproduce. Is this the camera for me? Can you tether it since it doesn’t appear to have a movable LCD screen which may be needed to copy 5x7 negs? I really appreciate your opinion. Geno Munari

how about the quality of the lenses that we have to put in front of a 50.6 MP Sensor .... there is very few that have an effective resolution ... that can make a full use of the resolution power of the sensor the only name that come to my mind is the OTUS Zeiss the 85mm and 50mm ones .... a camera that can only be effectively be used just with few lenses .... ....yeah well i have a weird feeling concerning this camera. ..... its useful on a very narrow niche ....

Hi! Which lens do you use here ?
@kienddao9 жыл бұрын
High ISO performance probably is my most concerned aspect of the coming 5DS. And I am getting very mixed signals here. Firstly, in this video, Peter says that the camera delivers very nice results at ISO 1600, and it does actually look nice in the video at 100% view. Even at ISO 3200 there's just "a little bit of noticeable noise in the black background. But that's about it; the file looks good..." (:4:15) It only falls apart at ISO 6400. So isn't he actually commending its low light performance? Though he did mention that if you're a low light/high speed shooter, this probably isn't the camera for you. But come on, who shoots serious, professional work at ISO 6400 and above? Secondly, as far as I know, the 5DS and the 7D MII have the same pixel density, using the same technology. So, in theory, 5DS's high ISO performance should be a leap forward from the 5D Mark III and 6D (as how 7D MII is compared to 7D and 70D). DXOMark has the ISO performance scores for these cameras. I own the 7D Mark II and see consistent results. ... But I have also read many reviews that mention an official information from Canon that the 5DS has better low light performance than the 5D Mark II (but not III). (Plus the fact the Canon limits the ISO to 12800). What am I supposed to make of that? Really confusing!
@elonex7779 жыл бұрын
Kien Dao Don't forget that each time you don't need 50mpx you can reduce the file to 35 or 25 and the noise will be even less noticeable, so i think 5Ds file reduce to match 5D III and 6D size will be much better. The 12800 limit is a way to split customers and they think 5Ds owners are more exigeant than 5D III/7D II. Magic lantern will remove this software limit.

I am a Canon 5D and 5D mark III owner. I rented the 5DS for a wedding last week and here are my thoughts on the camera. The 5DS is super sharp... Too sharp! The 5DS seems to also try and sharpen BOKEH in shots. I tried lowering the resolution to Small Raw, and I also tried the crop feature, neither had any affect on this issue. The bokeh looks, "God Awful," with this camera! On the positive side, if you are shooting at small aperture like f16 and are going for sharpness, the photos look amazing and very close to Medium Format in terms of detail. I used the 5ds with an EF 50mm f1.2 L and what normally is a Bokeh Monster Lens, made the background very busy and a bit nauseating. I will say that I was prepared for a poor lowlight performance, but it actually performed very well under these conditions. I found 3200 to be very useable.
@marckydasaint87309 жыл бұрын
Marcky Da Saint Before you purchase the 5Ds or 5Dsr, I would recommend that you go over to Flickr and examine photos taken at wide open apertures and see if the bokeh you see is attractive.

How different are they? I have a A7IV and a R6 but I own a lot of EF glass and I'm really into product photo so I've been willing to choose between a 5DS and a 5DSR but I don't know if the extra 300$ of the R really make that difference or the 5DS will be more than enough to blow me away
@EnidAgnusDei29 күн бұрын
@@marcelo_afonso I'd hire them both to see which suits you the best, I have shot both side by side and viwed the images side by side and whilst the DS R is a tiny bit sharper, honestly I really struggle to tell them apart, I am sure with either, they will blow your mind. Good luck!

Did Peter Hurley actually went on the record that 50MPs equals more details in a image? Really, Peter. The man is wrong. All that 50MPs get you is a bigger file. Now it will provide a big enough file to print a 6'X8' booth graphic and not lose sharpness or detail. But if all you do is web, magazine and standard prints...16 and 24MPs is more then enough. Especially if all you do is web. I guess money will get you to say anything, even if its the wrong information.

Michael Bell I know that i've shot several weddings with one body and one lens. And the shoots keep coming. A pro shouldn't be labeled as such based on the amount of gear he has. Joel Aparicio It's a review of the camera that has not been released yet. It's obvious that Canon made some agreement before they've let him get his hands on it. I think that it was still a reasonably honest review. Peter commented on the qualities of the camera, mentioned the downside which is poor performance at high ISO and shown the examples. He said it clearly that this is not a low light camera. He said what type of photography it is suited and not suited for. Also you accuse him of being biased and at the same time you make a clear judgement about the performance of a camera that so far very few people had their hands on. And I bet that you are not one of them.
