About the show:
The nationwide search for the next superstar kicked off in August as the Idol Bus traveled covering 23 cities across the country. Auditioning was made easier than ever as hopefuls also had the opportunity to submit audition videos online as well as via select social media platforms using an official tag The Next Idol cultivating over 300,000 posts. Also for the first time in “American Idol” history hopefuls had the opportunity to audition through a livestream platform.
Helping to determine who America will ultimately vote for to become the next singing sensation are music industry forces and superstar judges Luke Bryan Katy Perry and Lionel Richie. Host and producer Ryan Seacrest will return as host of the beloved series.

This does actually expose the flaw in these shows: they don’t care much about talent, but marketable talent. It has to be something to can sell in today’s pop music landscape. Same reason you don’t see metal screamers or rappers on Idol. They want that very clean, very modern style of pop singing

@E. Blaze ok - cant 100% disagree with you on this but this kid has talent & I stand by what i wrote. The judges blew it & he should have been given another opportunity. Take a listen to his version of "My Juanita" and his singing "The Angels Listened In" on the PBS special - both listed on youtube, and see if you still hold onto your opinion. There also is a youtube of him with the current members of the 4 Tops. I'm a doowoper since the early 50s & anyone with the gumption today to sing the songs from my youth will have all the support I have.

On one hand, I vaguely recall the saturation of local media with Mr Lemmongello, and like anything which is SHOVED at the public by the media (and as there were 'ONLY' 3 major networks), it was - for the proverbial '15-minutes' - your your couldn't do, think, say ANYTHING without Mr Lemongello nearby.... Saying this (and trying to tactfully avoid any 70's humour, or make any jokes about... well anything 70's), yes, Mr Lemongello DOES have being the first telemarketed album in the states to his credit. It's also very nice to see how much Mr Lemongello Jr (again, trying to be polite; I know most people who are the 'junior' to a parent don't typically like bent referred to as 'junior') really admires his dad, and for raising a polite, and already wanting to join the adult world, kudos - to both gentleman; father and son. Way, WAY to many people at his age (and even older - I'm not saying how much) act like spoilt rotten self-centered brats - with mommy and daddy to pay their way and nail them out of everything (speaking of which, I just read the other day of a father in... Florida' 🤨, who's - let me quite this verbatim; '16 year old son died from creasing a Tesla automobile going ... 116 MPH (!!!) The jackass...ER father is suing Tesla because he says the dead schmuck - erm... son😉... 'would've survived had it NOT been for the FIRE of the batteries....'🙈🙉🙊 No, you FOOL! Your dad son was AN IDIOT, who acted EXACTLY like I said - ZERO regard for anyone but his NOW DEAD self. I couldn't care of it was a dune buggy, a frakkin'Yugo, the point is, NO one - least of all some fool who JUST was allowed behind a wheel (which is A CONTACT; the state saying, 'we EXPECT YOU TO ACT LIKE AN ADULT with this vehicle'!!!) to NOT just break the speed limit, but go over it but DOUBLE! Who knows how many people were in the road by this piece of garbage when he decided he'd do what he wanted - and almost lost their lives?!?!?! This 'victim culture'HAS TO STOP!!! It cracks me up how quick he was to point out he's friends with famous people, although I don't think performing with a favorite entertainer technically counts as being friends so much as co-workers. That being said, I was extremely disappointed when they did not let him through. I first saw this kid on a PBS special called Doo Wop Generations and thought he was amazing even then.

I couldn't believe the end remarks of Luke and especially Lionel... it was almost as if they were 'told' not to put him through.... just because Jr. didn't shout during his brief audition, they being the so called 'professional' judges surely the talent and room for Jr. to improve with his next performance....
