Peter Luger rightfully got panned by the NYT about 5 years ago and generated a lot of head nods in NYC. That place has been coasting on its reputation for a very long time, and actual NYCers know the difference. The steak itself is good, but I don't want anyone slicing it for me. Other thing is that the sides are uninspired. Compare Luger to the other prime steakhouses and you will understand. Or the ethnic food upper tier steakhouses like Cote. Basically everyone tries harder than Luger, and its reputation has suffered immensely.

Great steaks, yes... But there are dozens of steakhouses in the city where you can get better steaks at an even cheaper price without rude pushy waiters.

The best overall steakhouse I’ve been to on Long Island isn’t Peter Luger. It’s Rothmann’s in Norwich. It’s got TR’s seal of approval and mine too.

I find that iconic restaurants rarely live up to their massive reputations. So what, doesn't make them bad,. Go here expecting a great steak (at outrageous prices) and you'll be ok. Honestly I've paid a LOT more and gotten a lot less, but if you're expecting the best meal of your life, you will be disappointed.

Overpriced clip joint .the steaks are good but certainly not great . Their drinks and side dishes are absurdly priced .plus the side dishes are nothing special. Totally for expenses accounts and tourists

Dry Aging loses thirty percent of its mass which makes it even more expensive. Add in tip tax drinks and you’re at 250 maybe. It’s not for plebs. I was seated with 21 doctors in the house. It’s not cheap but damn is it worth it. I’m a carnivore. I used to cut meat. 🥩

Peter Luger steak is average compared to "great steak". I have had dozens of steaks better than Luger's porterhouse. it's not even in my top 30 on my list of great steaks, and I have been to over 500 steakhouses from over 40 countries. And it is not worthy it for the money, but it is an experience if you want to give it a try once to compare to the other steaks you have eaten.

Best steak I ever had was at Manny's in Minneapolis. Second best is the one I'm making at home right now. USDA Prime (from Allen Bros), sous vide medium rare, which I am about to finish in a hot pan with a bit of butter and rosemary.
