Who else thought the music and the dancing peanut bowl were just Barney hallucinating from not drinking, the first time you saw this? When he was saying "not tonight," I thought he meant it as in "oh God, please don't let tonight be the night the psychotic break is finally going to happen!" Like, he knew that if he stopped drinking long enough he'd literally go crazy and desperately didn't want it to happen that night in front of his friends.

That’s right. Of course the episode came out several years prior to 9/11. Homer does manage to track down his car, which is parked near the World Trade Centre directly on Ground Zero with its front left wheel clamped and many a parking ticket to its name. After briefly leaving the car again to use the toilet, Home is issued another fine for not attending the vehicle and drives off with the wheel still clamped, damaging the front wing and practically wrecks the whole car trying to remove the clamp with a jackhammer.

Admit it, it was a psychological tease for us the viewers to see that Barney spent his whole life drinking all the time, flushing his life down the toilet all the time, and then he blew his once in a lifetime opportunity to have major fun with not only everyone there, but also a celebrity and his cheerleaders, where it would've paid off.
