The scene with Grandpa whistling as he walks in, sees Bart, and walks back out is incredible. One of the finest dialogue-less jokes in the show, and a GIF with endless uses.

Regardless of how inappropriate it was for a 10 year old to work there, the friendship that grew between Belle and Bart was very sweet. By the end, it was almost like a kindly aunt and a favorite nephew type of thing :)

To be fair, Belle DID keep Bart away from the more risque elements of the place, instead placing him on the door and tending to the more mundane elements by and large.

Got to Admit Bart having a job like is surprising suited to his skills. He has a natural talent at being liked by people, and he is able to adapt on the fly.

Honestly Bart has the potential to be good at many jobs. He definitely seems to flourish when he has lots of responsibility but also has to find creative solutions. I mean he actually did super well at running his own casino.

@@the_bottomfragger Matt Groening once said he believes Bart will end up like Homer, but I disagree. The show is funnier when he has the freedom to express his artistic, creative sensibilities (which he seems to have inherited from Marge). He seems unlikely to settle for a steady, menial job. For better or for worse.

Not really. Hardly any of the old writers are still on staff and any show that's gone on as long as the Simpsons(outside of a soup opera) is going to run dry at some point.... only in this case they still keep getting renewed.

The difference you're seeing is that old Simpsons was delivered more like a sketch show; the scenes were rapid, witty, short, and that allowed the jokes to keep coming. The new Simpsons' jokes are long and drawn out, and rely too much on throwing in in-your-face-obvious visual gags to compensate or distract from the long dialogue, which takes forever to get to the punchline.

It's interesting how tonally different these two episodes are. That season 1 episode is very conservative and takes the side of the angry mob while this one says that sex is cool sometimes.

@@davemustaki134 when Homer angrily says I don't care if his filling in for Mel Zetz. That is exactly who bart was filling in for. What makes it funnier is that Mel Zetz is not a real comedian. I believe they came up with the name from one of there animator for the show.
