I'm 51 yrs old now, but I felt like I was 9 yrs old AGAIN in 1978 when this WONDERFUL, LOVING, & GREAT, GREAT CARTOON came out. I sat here in Mobile Alabama & cried listening to this GREAT SONG, then I found the Puff The Magic Dragon cartoon, I WATCHED IT & CRIED SOME MORE. Thank you Peter, Paul, & Mary...THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR A GREAT GREAT SONG & AN EVEN GREATER YOUTHFUL MEMORY!!! Much love from Mobile Alabama.

I love this song. It remembers me at my english teacher and teacher of our singing group in school. I loved this teacher and how he sing this and other songs. He was teacher of the year any time after my school time (Abi 2000).

This song touches my heart. Like the song Toyland. It's sweet but so sad.

Once Mark Russell satirized some good cause supported primarily by cigarette taxes, so he sang the song, "Puff, and keep on draggin'"

As far as I know they continue to deny to this day that Puff is a song about Marijuana. I Love the song and have now introduced it to my granddaughter but can it really be about anything else? Naming the Boy Jackie Paper and the Dragon Puff are the biggest reasons I feel this way, though most of the lyrics support it. To me it is a great story of outgrowing the "need for weed".

@@elvissadsongspresley5913 He is clearly saying that it was not common to talk about drugs or Mary jane at this time. The original poem was written in 1959, before the counterculture movement made drugs a common topic in conversation. It was still very taboo in the 1950's to talk about drugs.

I honestly think it's about the loss of innocence, but was written to imply the other. Clever.
