I was also drafted in 1966. Vietnam was the first of worthless wars we never won then or since. Wars brought on by war-monger politicians seeking riches and personal gains. Washington DC and the pentagon are full of them. We now know that the protestors were right all along, which is why they hate Donald Trump, who isn't a greedy politician but rather a successful business man who ends wars rather than starting them.

Land, oil, religion, POLITICS!… Cuba, Russia, china…..the list is endless…… this song still holds so much meaning for those of us who believe in the sanctity of life, for all humans and the expanse of a planet which is large enough for us all to be as separate or together as we choose!…. Every word you said is correct, however most people will elect or vote someone from the UNIPARTY meaning either a neoliberal or neoconservative that vote 👍 yes to EVERY single battle or war. The only politician/president we’ve had in my entire lifetime that actually tries diplomacy and a war last ideology is being smeared 24/7 by corporate media at the behest of the weapons industry. I am 77 years old. I have 2 Purple Hearts and was trained as a paratrooper. I volunteered to go to Vietnam because I had read the Gulag Archipelago and One Day in the Life of Ivan Ivanovich, and I knew that what those books wrote about I did not want in this world. I was evacuated twice from the field. The second time I eventually ended up at Walter Reed where I underwent reconstructive surgery. I was happy to be out of Vietnam. They made all of us paratroopers airmobile, helicopters. I saw and experienced, and did many horrible things. War is hell, and pointless. Communication is the key. I totally agree with PP&M, the song hits the truth on the head. I still don’t like the way the Russian government and Putin execute the war with Ukraine and suppress their citizens who protest the war against Ukraine.

Mary's voice as she has aged never faltered-- just beautiful. When they sing--Gone to graveyards everyone--this Vietnam vet cries--RIP Walter Soutar, my good friend and fellow soldier.

The boys lost their hair but the trio never lost their style ever. Love how Mary gets the audience to sing along with them. You'll notice many young folks in the audience who weren't around when the trio was in their peak period of 1962-65. A great version of this song. Must have been awfully hot when they were performing.

My mom used to sing this to me at night and stroke my hair - I’ll never forget it. She left when I was 13 and never came back… along with the anger I still miss her so much & to this day I somehow hope she will still come back.. I’m a 32 year old woman now. I miss u mom I wish u wouldn’t have left..

From 1959 to 1962 I lived in Westminster, CA and heard songs like this, the lemon song, monster mash, Michael Row your boat, the twist, if I had a hammer and more, all on the radio, and all before anybody ever heard of the Beatles. Folk music was my first love and still makes me smile today.

I always have loved Peter, Paul and Mary music this particular song where have All the young men gone remind me so much of our guys my age when I was like 1965 when it was 18 and so many of the guys from my high school went to war in Vietnam and it also reminds me of the Kennedy's getting shot and Martin Luther King their songs have a really great feeling in them they sang about all the people who were dying for no reason their songs touch me and bring tears to my eyes

This is one of the first songs that I remember hearing. I had a babysitter in the early sixties who played acoustic guitar. She would play this for me. No wonder I now play and write folk songs myself. Early influences matter most.

I think without question, the most beautiful song ever written only seconded by blowing in the wind. It’s disgusting to me that such beautiful songs such as these ever had to be written. They speak of the horrors and inhumanity of our race. I think of my friends who lost their life in Vietnam and I look back at how young and innocent they were. When I play these songs, and I do it often, it brings the image of those young children who were sent off to war. I sometimes sing these in my garage studio, but I don’t think I have the emotional control to sing them in public. When will we ever learn? How many times must the cannonballs fly, before they’re forever banned? How many times can a man turn his head and pretend he just doesn’t see? Awesome lyrics, when will we learn?

Yes. The sad thing is that they may be wrong, They also may be the best of humanity - and that is the issue. Human nature IS nature - the struggle for survival. Some of us think that survival should and maybe necessarily does include certain degrees of freedom and respect, but many do not. This is among my favorite songs ever, but truly - "when will they ever learn"? Ask a Ukrainian soldier about that. They do not want to die, and I doubt that they are big fans of killing. What were they supposed to learn?
