A defensive midfielder in his playing days, Reid enjoyed a long and successful career.
He was already 26 when the Blues snapped him up. He became a key figure in the heart of Everton's most successful ever side.
His engine was superb and he became a virtual ever-present as Kendall's rejuvenated Everton went on to win league titles in 1985 and 1987, the FA Cup in 1984 and the European Cup Winner's Cup in 1985.
Reid was voted the PFA 'Footballer of the Year' in 1985 - underlining his vital role during Everton's greatest ever campaign.

He would die for Everton, a True Blue. Remember when he cracked his ribs and carried on playing. Midfield General and a great partnership with Paul Bracewell. Quality!

As a season ticket holder, I watched many games from Peter Reid. Not the most gifted when compared with a Sheedy or Steven, he was more a holding type midfielder. However, be in no doubt from this old blue, Everton could have achieved what they did in the 1980's without him. He did all the spade work breaking up the opposition play and feeding the forwards. Had a good apprentice in Paul Bracewell, and I never recall him taking a time out like the modern day midfielders.. Big heart who never gave up or backed down !! I feel sorry for all you young blues out there who did not live through this period. Best Everton team EVER!!

I'm a Brighton fan but I would say Reid had stuff in his locker sheedy and Steven didn't. 3 great players mind but what a team you had 1984 to about 1989

I always tell people, don’t love anything that can’t love you back. Everton loved me back. First game in 1966 at 8 years old. I was home and away for 5 years and had 2 season tickets for much longer before moving to USA. Peter Reid was everything you want Everton to be. Loyal; honest; committed; passionate; tough but fair. Never shirked a tackle. Gave as good as he got and always had the back of his team mates. Despite our political differences I know he’s a thoroughly decent bloke. Along with the rest of the lads he gave me some of the best years of my life and for that I am forever grateful.

I love Peter Reid, he was a brilliant professional footballer, who loved his employer and he showed what he wanted with them. His employers Everton FC knew what they had bought but they didn`t know his future strength - True Everton feeling True Everton Love. All Evertonions have the true Blue love. Peter is a true Evertonion through and through.....

@@adamw2911 One of the problems that England had going into the Tourney was whether Reid Or Wilkins should play the supportive role for Hoddle, I think Bobby was too scared to drop Ray even though it was clear from the qualifications and friendlies (game against Scotland in April 1986 when Reid came on in the second half) that was the case..

Loved watching Reidy. Sometimes we'd be a bit indifferent or under sustained pressure and you could feel something go off in head like 'I'm not having this!'. He'd turn up the energy and afterburners, put a few tackles in and the whole team would rally and get back control of the game. Brilliant.

Surely one of the best value for money transfers ever, particularly as Everton got him for a fraction of the price they'd offered Bolton a couple of years earlier.

I always admired Peter Reid in Everton's heyday. Skilful, of course, but perhaps his greatest gift was his sheer determination. If there was one blight on his career, it was perhaps his part in the sending-off of Kevin Moran in the '85 Cup Final.

Are you joking, that thick twat just dived in like an Irish navy, which by the way lost us the cup final as the game turned on that ,United were shite that day just got lucky with that freak goal we would have twatted them in the replay and they knew it.we murdered them that year plus we beat them easily a few months later in the charity shield.
