I've had a Peter's Banded skink since the 4th of March 2023 , he's only eaten twice since I've gotten him.

That is a common issue with this species. Keep an eye on their weight, make sure it’s warm enough for them and they aren’t stressed. So making sure they have deep substate. Then mix up the things they are offered. Are they freshly imported? Or LTC?

What type uvb do you use? I’m planning on getting some next month. And do you bake the play sand in oven?

Great Video! I find such varied info about them and I'm never sure which is correct. Do you find they do better in groups or have some thrived alone?

I’ve found them better in groups, but they seem fine by themselves too.

I have my two pbs and just bought 2 more females. My substrate is play sand, top soil mix. I have a che to heat them, a waterfall and loads of hides. I’m hoping to breed

What do you do for food? I've heard several times that they're omnivores but most people seem to only feed them insects? Shouldn't their diet be more like a blue tongue skinks if they're omnivores?
@animalcwtch8238 Жыл бұрын
Yes, however mine have never taken anything other than insects and eggs. I do know some who have though. I do wonder if it’s more to do with where they were caught and what was available there.

How about the captive bred babies you hatched, do they eat a more varied diet??@@animalcwtch8238

Thank you, your videos are extremely helpful. I am receiving 3 wild caught Peter’s today and will start their quarantine. What was your quarantine process and for how long. Why did you choose a ceramic heater over a heat lamp? Since they come from the Sahel I would assume they get a lot of sun, is there an advantage I am missing in using the ceramic instead?

Hi, I have always bought them in groups so I have just kept them together form the beginning. I’ve not had to quarantine to add groups, however, I usually keep them in a separate rubs/tubs for a week or so to just see how they do, I always use sand as they need that. Then I put them in the vivarium tighter and just make sure I don’t mix any of the items, bowls etc with any other reptiles and practice good hygiene to prevent any cross infection. However, like I say it’s not been an major issue for me so might be worth asking others who had added to their groups. I always take extra care for 6 months, it seems like a long time but it’s better safe than sorry. I don’t routinely treat for parasites. I just monitor it. As for ceramic, I prefer it as it doesn’t give out light, they have UVB for light but the ceramic heat drops down at night but because it’s ceramic it doesn’t disturb them at night.
