As a black American I love Peter Tosh. I Grew up in foster homes and was beaten badly many times by my foster mother who was caribbean, She did not like me because I am a black American Creole from Louisiana. she came to live here in Louisiana because of the hardship in her country. Tosh gave me the strength to stand strong and stay that way. This was back in the 70's. I found out Tosh was performing here in America so I went to his concert. I wanted to tell him I had adopted him for my blood brother. I got the chance to speak with him. And he listened calmly to me. I think Tosh was way bigger then what your saying here. I am little but I stood next to him and I would say Tosh was more like six feet six He was a big guy! Still I told him why I adopted him. He said to me reaching his hand out. I took his hand he said with a little smile, its a honor my sister. Tosh I well knew did not have any brothers or sisters so I am very honored to be his only sister. Tosh and I are both born in October. He understood what I was going through. I love my big brother and always will. I think a lot of people in Jamaica misunderstood Tosh. I really did not know what he was going to say when I told him I had adopted him. But when he told me its a honor my sister and took my hand I smiled at him and gave him a big hug. So I don't care what any Jamaican say about Peter Tosh he was beautiful and they needed him then and they need him now. And that guy that killed him Tosh did everything he could to help that guy. Tosh was on the world stage but he still treated this guy like a person he had No! Reason to kill my big brother. Tosh was angry with Bob because of Chris Blackwell him Bunny, and Bob were brothers.

I've been to over 100 concerts in my life. One stands out as my most memorable. It was the summer of 1983. My friend Ralph and I heard on the radio one lazy July morning that Peter Tosh was playing that night at the Pier in NYC. Dennis Brown was the opening act. We hopped in the car with very little cash (about $100) and headed on down. We could only listen to the first act from outside of the 20'' high chain link fencing, as unfortunately we didn't have enough money to scalp tickets that were being sold outside. We were not alone. Hundreds of people were outside the venue, dancing in the street to the music. The perimeter was surrounded by cops, as many were trying to scale the fencing to illegally access the show (and most were being picked off the fence by the cops, with a few getting over), while the opening act was in play. We contemplated doing that ourselves, and so we got situated right next to a heavyset female cop who we thought we could get past during a lull in-between the musical acts. But before we could get the nerve to make a dash up the fence a man (a roadie, perhaps) from inside the venue at the backstage area suddenly opened an access-gate in the fencing that swung inward, and he silently waved his arms for a mob of hundreds to come on in! WIth their backs turned to the "inside-man" who opened the floodgates, the cops were overwhelmed when hundreds stormed the opened gate. Before I knew what was happening, I was picked up by the surging mob and pushed inside the concert arena, crashing into a metal garbage can and tumbling to the pavement just to the right-side of the stage. I stood up and found myself in the front row at the stagefloor of the concert, standing amongst a bunch a dreadlocked rastas, just as Peter Tosh was coming onto the stage. He was smoking a huge chillum pipe. He took a huge puff, and blew a giant cloud right in my face as he began chanting "Pick Myself Up" to begin what was the best concert I ever saw. The Bush Doctor was majestic that night. I have never seen such a commanding prescence on a stage, in any variety of music or in any other form of art.

Thanks for setting the record straight about Tosh's absence from Marley's funeral and the song burial being directed at Bob, as well as other malicious rumours that bore no relationship to the truth. Those of us, at home and abroad who knew, understood, and respected Peter's mission, have been giving this recognition to Peter for years. Nevertheless, I am pleased to hear that Peter is getting the long-overdue recognition for his contributions to Jamaican music, his passionate fight for equal rights and justice in Jamaica and all over the world and so much more. As for being hated by the Jamaican so called upper classes, WHO CARES? In the words of the late, great, Peter Tosh, if you live in a glass house don't throw stones and everyone is talking about crime, crime, tell me, who are the criminals?😀

@Jean Clarke- Very interesting and sad to find out in your comment how Tosh was/is viewed in Jamaica, I had no idea- at the time of their great success I was between Europe and Africa, and there Peter Tosh was and has always been regarded as an immense musical talent, a fierce defender of justice and serious revolutionary panafricanist, and his life, music and ideas are celebrated to this day with a love of love. So none of those rumours were able to tarnish the Tosh legacy in other parts of the world, as you can see from many comments here from those with African sounding names, Africans have been celebrating Peter Tosh as a legend and a hero always. May all the souls of our dear Wailers continue to live long, the Wailers for ever!! (we ought to be careful for they will create rumors to divide us)

Nahhh today Peter Tosh is relevantly known. I still remember him running atop of a moving train in the song ‘stop that train.’ He is relevantly the guy who supremely inspired Bob. Now that the narrator said he is relatively unknown im going to go back and listen to even more of Tosh’s movement on the corruption on the clear skin people who brought so much guns to what was once a beautiful and relatively peaceful island. Nashing of the teeth will someday crack and when it does there will be weeping and crying but there will be no place to run and nowhere to hide. I’ve been blessed with the vision of tranquility. With tranquility one can live a peaceful and full filling life. It’s not hard all you have to do is open up your eyes to reality. A house divided is a house which will fall. I plea with mi yadi people wen are we going to unit. No more west Moreland, no more Kingston, no saint Ann but 1 Jamaica 🇯🇲 out of many one people.

This documentary adds nothing. All rather inuendo. Yes, Bob and Peter had a tumultous relationship. Remember when Peter Tosh was severely beaten up by the police and was hospitalized? Bob went to see peter in hospital and wept because he could not stand seeing Peter in such a predicament. Bob tried to convince Peter to leave Jamaica at once and of course, Peter refused. That said, the song Burial was done long before the split of the wailers. It was a solo record by Peter Tosh, and was never intended to mock Bob Marley on his burial. People should also know that Bob Marley paid for the recording costs of Peter Tosh's seminal album Legalize It. Also in one iconic moment, Bob Marley was joined on stage by Peter at Bob Marley's concert in Beverly Hills for the encore song "Get Up Stand Up". Those are facts that should be highlighted in the documentary, not the spreading of bad vibes long after the death of two childhood friends.

I liked the video especially calling out Whiteworst and the drama around the band name, it's a good callout. Still, you're right, it deserves a greater emphasis on their story of friendship that outside influences tried to dismantle without complete success. I know Peter and Bob were on harmonies for some of Blackheart Man; and recall hearing Bob on harmonies on at least one track of Legalize It.

If the Wailers didn't work with Chris Blackwell in 1972, Bob, Peter, and Bunny would have been forgotten, and nobody would care.
@mauricemaswiswi5 Жыл бұрын
@@myleswayne301 Do not overhype Chris Blackwell. What you need to know is that Reggae, Peter Tosh, Bob Marley et al would have happened without the involvement of Chris Blackwell. Remember that not every reggae artiste coming out of Jamaica was on Island Records. You need to know there was Beverlys, Studio One, Trojan, and many other record labesl that were doing damage. Ska morphed into rock steady, which developed into reggae and dub...so the story goes. Coming back to Chris Blackwell. He understood Bob Marley and what Bob wanted to do with the music. Chris on the other hand was one person Bob could trust with his music.. This Marley said countless times. They made a perfect tug team but most importantly Blackwell new Marley music was not an immediate hit, but music for generations to come. Blackwell invested millions into creating the music and never giving up. 6-7 albums with one record label, an international one at that! You have to hand it to the work ethic of Marley and foresight of Blackwell. \\ The result. Marley will outsell any reggae artiste now and into the future year on year.

well maybe chris blackwell may have ripped them off at first but still it had to go that way so the wailers and bobs music would get known in babylon......

As a child I use to think Bob Marley was so far the best reggae musician of all time untill I stumbled on peter touch’s album (equal rights ) den I realized I thought wrong… But watching this and realizing they were both childhood friends it all make sense… two prophets with same message clearly doesn’t matter whose mouth spoke it first they were both great and there impact and legacy will forever live on …peace

I remember when Peter Tosh came to the Dallas/Fort Worth area of Texas around about 1979. I was in my late teens. At that time, the only reggae groups I knew anything about was Bob Marley and the Wailers and Peter Tosh. For some reason I was not discovered Bunny Wailer at that time. It was not until 1980 that I was able to find any of their Albums. At that time most record shops in the D/FW area didn't carry any Reggae Music. There was this place near Texas Christian University called, "Sound Warehouse", that I found their albums and a few other artist along the back wall of the store. These men opened up a whole new world to me.

Our Petah ... Our very own Shining Black Prince ... Direct Call to Arms Revolutionary... Ever speaking up against the oppression of Black skin poor people ... Afrikan blood Jamaicans. He was acutely aware of the very disturbing fact that Afrikan blood Jamaicans, who made up the proletarian class in Jamaica, were no better off than before so called Emancipation ... Still living in persistent poverty under plantation like socio-economic conditions ... He LOVED Afrikans and placed himself on the frontline of our Struggle - without apology or compromise... Yeah ... A fi wi Petah dat ... Black and Beautiful ... 🖤 🇯🇲 Black Power!
