Peter Wardell is an amazing performer. I believe magicians can learn a lot from his performance. Did anyone else find it funny that the close-up magician of the year trophy had a card in it..... magicians need to open up from cards. Thanks for doing so Mr. Wardell.

I've seen cups & balls so many times, with so many variations, and with so many 'reveals' that if I pause, I know in my head what is going on - but a good performance never fails to keep me guessing. This was great pacing and patter, and obviously the highest of technical skills. Just loved it.

Must have watched this a dozen times think ive comented on it before too. Beautifully done and such good comedy and timing. Most people refer to dynamo and chris angel when they talk about magicians not realising that tv magic so to speak and the real thing as you see here are worlds apart. What you see here is pure skill and years of practice. Big thumbs up

Wow man you are a great talent, that is possibly the worst audience I have ever seen
@patrickwoolery60005 жыл бұрын
If he is performing for magicians and their families, that can be a terrible audience. They spend their whole time either thinking ahead to what they think his next move will be, trying to bust him on his moves, or thinking "can I get away with using that same joke?" Sort of like how when you have comedians talking shop, one will tell a joke and the other will say "yeah, I'd laugh at that," but never actually laugh.

Honestly, I have seen "cleaner" cups and balls routines (no I cant do better, wish i could), but only by a little. That said this guy is super entertaining and thats what it's about with the cups and balls, everyone knows how it works, all the way down to the orange (or in this case the tomato, nice twist) It's how hard you laugh. also this guy could throw my eyes where ever he wanted, it took a couple of tries to actually see one of them. Great diversions, well done!
@miamimagicians12 жыл бұрын
I don't think you caught him the 1st time watching, you probably had to re-watch it several times to figure things out. That counts as you being fooled. Correct me if im wrong.

@tjanaweb The trick is based on the Dai Vernon routine. Gazzo's a friend and I've been around a lot longer than the book and the DVD! Of course I was influenced by him and if you saw a performer in Covent Garden then they were probably influence by us both.

@PeterWardell6 жыл бұрын

@TheLarryBrown3 жыл бұрын
Ricky Jay is a move for move copy of Dai Vernon, with even some of the same patter. Peter is inspired by Dai Vernon's routine but totally makes it his own. That's why there is some similarity.

Peter, I mean no disrespect to admit I've never heard of you, before viewing this video. However, you are an outstanding magician with obviously decades of demanding sleight-of-hand skills. Your act is clever and presentation/comic aspects had me laughing non-stop. You are a performer, plain and simple.Those of us that have competed in athletics and/or artful pursuits relish what you have done. We can identify/ know of the grueling and sometime lonely hours/days/weeks/years to seek but never obtain perfection. But a performer puts it out there...without fear. And ever will be those that hide in the shadows and claim/state they no better or how to do better. Yeah RIGHT!

I usually expose all the workings of any magic I see on You Tube, but this was so good I won't do so on this occasion!
@quelorepario7 жыл бұрын
Does "exposing" make you feel superior? let me tell you a secret: what you believe to have exposed are usually 99% wrong conjectures, especially, very especially if you never have practiced magic yourself.
@PreservationEnthusiast7 жыл бұрын
quelorepario I do practice magic and have done 100's of shows thanks very much all the same. So, yes I know the workings of most of the effects straight off. And I have extensive knowledge of methods and sleights to predict many others. The reason I expose on You Tube is to help young magicians who are learning. The only people who read and comment on the technicalities are magicians or magic students. Lay people are not interested.
@quelorepario7 жыл бұрын
Well, in this case I am more in line with @vernonclassic up there. I think that doing that is pointless, especially if you are a seasoned magician. Discussing about the techniques in specialized forums such as the magic cafe is acceptable, "exposing" it on youtube is irresponsible. Thanks for ruining the effect to the laymen who are skimming on the comments.
@PreservationEnthusiast7 жыл бұрын
quelorepario Magic Cafe is a big exposure forum. Read between the lines and there are many just trying to guess the method. If I'm not sure about a new effect, I just drop by there, and after a bit of reading it is soon tipped. Mind you, there is very little new in magic. The current generation of "creators" simply recycle the effects of the previous generation adding a different name and minor performance variations. It's a big con.
@quelorepario7 жыл бұрын
But the difference is that those who enter of Magic Cafe are the ones that are purposefully trying to research it a specific method or trick, those users are willingly doing an effort to learn it, to get spoiled. KZbinrs are laymen, hell, there are still idiots here who need to be reassured that magic isn't real". It is a very different audience, and you will be spoiling the effect for everyone even those who don't want to be spoiled. Basically exposing the techniques in the comment section of youtube you are either teaching a generation of assholes who don't really appreciate the arts or ruining the effect to the spectators who don't want to know the secrets. If you don't really see my point, then there is no point on continuing this discussion. Btw, I don't think that new effects on old tricks are a con, if you aren't in awe when you scratch your head on a superb effect to discover that it is just a new innovative twist on an old technique... well, then I wonder how appreciative of the arts are yourself, I mean why are you even doing magic? Also, there are plenty of innovation that can be done as technology advances... As Arthur C Clarke said it: "any technology sufficiently advanced is indistinguishable from magic". It just takes a bit of creativity to make something ordinary and turning it extraordinary.

I saying "not impressed" multiple times in your show occurs, something is wrong. If gasps don't happen with every single effect, something is wrong. When the only audible response you hear is from corny jokes, something is wrong. If the audience only claps because they know that's the point they are supposed to clap, something is wrong.
@PeterWardell7 жыл бұрын
So you think something is wrong?
@modernillusionist50177 жыл бұрын
No, your show is perfect. Your show is more than perfect. I kind of wrote that wrong. The first sentence was supposed to say; (If I'm saying "I'm not impressed" multiple times in your show, something is wrong) I'm not sure why I phrased the rest that way. If you see my comments on your other videos, you will notice that I think you are perfect. I just messed this post up, and I'm just not sure how. The correct phrasing is on another video of yours.You are the example I use when describing what a perfect magician is. I even have a framed picture of you in my living room.
@PeterWardell7 жыл бұрын
Phew! Thank you!
@modernillusionist50177 жыл бұрын
+Peter Wardell Yeah, if you read my post on another one of your videos, you will see how much I look up to you. I'm trying to figure out why I worded it like that. When ever I read what I wrote, it looks really offensive. That is going to bother me for a long time until I figure it out. I will look for the post I left on one of your videos. That's the post in which I really complimented you. You are one of the best performers I've seen in a long time.
@modernillusionist50177 жыл бұрын
+Peter Wardell Look for my post on your Christmas show. I think it's the 2011 Christmas show. My post starts off by saying it's a long post. That post will express my deepest respect for you as a performer. Like I said, I have a short list on Magicians I look up to and each one is photographed and framed on my wall. You are one of the Magicians on my wall. But I have a question in that post that I would love for you to answer.

He's not that quick..I could see the balls
@opineme6 жыл бұрын
He could be halfway entertaining if he changed his patter and worked on his timing.
@beatz047 жыл бұрын
Only magicians could vote this to be trophy-worthy. I mean, starting with his very (unwillingly) awkward entrance - note his strange, almost commanding way of welcoming the audience and the audience reaction -, the strange mouth licking thing, his "comedy" style that doesn't fit his appearance, his patter not only sounding rehearsed but way too fast, the noticable underlying nervousness, and the unnecessary car race speed with which he goes through c&b. There is only the conclusion all the jury has voted on was technical skill and a few novelties with some of the moves in C&B. But i found it rather irritating, clearly his performance style is not suiting his real persona and i didn't find it to be very entertaining, sorry. Really, think about your stage persona - you wanna come across as the witty guy but it doesn't look natural with you. You come across as someone who *wants* to be funny but is way too nervous to make it look natural. Either try to go half the speed or better yet, find a different persona that better matches your real life personality. And either way, learn about rhythm, pace, pauses and delivery. Also about plausability and reasoning. Your little story about what your daughter said "this morning" doesn't sound credible at all. Either change the pace and delivery of it or change it to "told me once" or "two weeks ago". Your pace is so in a hurry that your daughter telling you the magic wand thing coincidentally just "this morning" doesn't sound real. It sounds fake and cliche. Would be a totally different thing if your delivery was way more casual, slow paced because then you could present that bit almost like an afterthought, hence make it more believable. You really should study Louis C.K. for instance and how his timing works. There's even an analysis of his technique here on YT that breaks it down to the last bit.

Talk about missing the fucking point. You talk as if peter is amateur....he isnt. You are. You are analysing his every move? Who the fuck does that except for obsessive nobodies on the internet? The joke about his daughter worked BECAUSE it sounded unbelievable and cliche you fucking bellend. Here is my advice for you a result of my in depth analysis of your performance here as prize cock. Get over yourself. Relax once in a while. Stop analysing magic performances. Try and find out what a sense of humour is. Fucking moron.
