Peter is right. You cant try to re-create a classic film. Social, economical, and political times give birth to certain film classics. And will never be received the same way as it was originally intended.

Robocop is timeless movie, and didn't need a remake. A film only needs to be remade if it's so old that the special effects are so unconvincing, that a modern day upgrade might give it life once again, in good hands, of course.

I’ve watched a lot of videos on the game. I will have to play it at some point. It looks fun and having Weller back is an awesome touch. Best video game based on a movie franchise in a long long time. Lower price too than most new launches, If you looked at the devs previous works you'd be worried to try it out but for me? Absolutely worth it. Heck i think it's the second unreal engine 5 title to be published too so it looks absolutely amazing. Fun fact too! Peter also voiced robo back in MK11's aftermath dlc. Terminator & Rambo where also part of that but they weren't able to get Sly or Arnold to do the voice work. Peter & the audio techs really nailed his voice for that game.

helljumperz90 An open mind to what? The new one is just randomly putting elements and quotes from the old one together without achieving the emotional depth or even portraying the shockingly violent behavior of mankind. The potential it has it squanders. It has no meaning and is totally annoying in parts where the family situation is dealt with. It's just so silly how everything is straight in the face. No mystery, no story turns you can't predict after five minutes in. There is some decent acting, but this movie has no soul and no purpose. I also wonder where the money went. There was nothing in this movie that made me suspect a AAA budget. It would be a 6/10 without the original Robocop movie, but seing it ruined living up to that, it get's 4/10 from me. Forgettable.

It's been a while since I saw the original, but I felt the remake has some merit. The patrols of ED-209s walking around US-occupied Teheran, droning "peace be upon you, as-salam alaykum" in their menacing, robotic voices? I thought that was fantastic. The remake approaches dehumanisation in a more contemporary light, relevant to the issues of today (i.e. drone warfare), where the original is more timeless and has a message that can still resonate in the future. I think the remake will eventually be forgotten in the shadow of the original classic, but it's not completely devoid of brilliance.

Probably because Hollywood now isn't much into taking risks on new original projects that have too many unknown variables around them. Hollywood now prefers to work on huge trilogies, more and more sequels and remakes of films that did good in the box office years ago. Why take the risks of exploring new unknown/original (sometimes unoriginal) ideas when you can just milk the cows of past franchises with remakes,sequels and such. It's a bit sad imo.

BLOODless RVC when you're the star of a movie you don't feel like watching that movie more than once, especially if you know every little detail about it, because you were there and you experienced it first person, even the backstage life. They could have hired Peter Weller for Robocop 4 sequel with Paul Verhoeven & Ed Nuemeier back to direct the movie. What makes original Robocop movie great was the high realism, violence & gore. Robocop would still be around after 30 years and would have gone through upgrades/modernisation. Since Robocop is half human half machine, it is possible that Murphy's human face would get older. Peter Weller suits best
@Cha4k9 жыл бұрын
Jay Son Wong I liked the idea of a direct sequel set in the present day. One where Robocop is run down and obsolete, Much of what little of his original organic body aged, Or replaced replaced making him even less of a person than who he was before. Alone and with no future. How he would face that.What would OCP do with Robocop decades later?, Would they just dump him on the scrap heap when they had lost interest in him? Would they try to sell him?, Would they let him go free? Who would take care of his upkeep? Would politicians take advantage of his situation and try to leverage his past popularity for their own gain somehow?.It seems more interesting to me anyway.And yea obviously I'd still want it to have plenty of satire, action and gore.
@jayjay533139 жыл бұрын
Cha4k yes, a sequel like that is best and Peter Weller would be the only best person to reprise his role in robocop 4. We can only hope Paul Verhoeven and Ed Nuemeier able to convince MGM to sponsor and give it a green light. Once there's Paul, expect lots of violence gore, action, realistic superb special effects and sad scenes. They should start petitions from all robocop fans to convince MGM. Robocop fighting for his survival is most ideal from the heartless OCP conglomerates that wanted to get rid of him when they find him obsolete compared to cyborgs and to prevent him from revealing truths to public forcing him to admit he's human preventing him to get back to his family. Robocop 1 mentioned that they intended to salvage Alex Murphy's human arm but Bob said rid of it. That means they salvaged his head and part of his torso where he grows in age in that case.

What many people dont understand about the original Robocop is its ultra violence in contrast to its satire. Ive only saw the trailer for the new one but It seems the remake just does not seem to have this. Its like when Murphy was murdered it was truly brutal, not so much because seeing a man shot and blown to pieces is cool, but because you are seeing a man stripped of all his humanity, and he is brought bk trying to hang onto that humanity in a seedy corrupt world that seems to have none. The remake seems to have ditched all that in favor of action and cgi and its a real shame because I very much welcome a remake, or even a sequel if it could only build on what the original had.
@tommyt197110 жыл бұрын
Yup, the violence was never meant to be mean-spirited like it was in the 2nd one. They kept it humorous, with the notable exception of Murphy's murder. Beyond that, it's totally ridiculous but Verhoeven did it with flair & humor.

I think old stop-motion movies look much better than today's computer graphics. There is "life" inside stop motion, you can feel the sould of the creator in there. But, perhaps there's something wrong with me...

I don't think he had a clue how much JJ and comp. carved out of ST2, JJ-washed it so it feels like my beloved Star Wars but completely misses the point that this was the fucking appeal of Star Trek and I can relate with that on any level. Don't believe the hype about SW7. JJ is giving the middle finger to the fans of the prequels with all the "There's nothing from the prequels in the movie announcement" he makes every week while letting Simon Pegg sits on Chewie's lap smiling like a vegetable in the Milelienum Falcon set and he says "Fuck you" to Trek fans and fuck you to Prequel fans. This is a man in his 50s with children, arguing with other grown children, while hypocritically teaching his to grow up.

historical mistake ever done in Hollywood to remake Robocop. they just killed a sci fi classic character. Classic never should be Remake.
@germanshepherd53147 жыл бұрын
I always thought RoboCop 3 killed the character. Peter Weller was right to say no, the early incarnation of PG-13 and the all around made for TV movie feel killed RoboCop. CCH Pounder was wasted in her acting skills in Part 3 and that bad TV show version of RoboCop didn't help either.

The original was soooooooooooooooooooooooo far superior to that very poor remake. It was satirical, allegorical, political, and even had an underlying sadness that that terrible pointless remake couldn't even come close to. Peter Weller is a very intelligent individual and didn't blow off the question as if it were just some silly role he played in the 1980's. He truly understood the character he played and the importance of the film for that time. Everyone should see the original movie! One of the best films of the 1980's!

Well said, Peter. I know this is a video from 7 years ago, but the message still reigns true today. There's one reason in most regards that production companies do a remake, and it's to cash in on the success of the original. There's no soul in it. It's a hollow shell being compensated with over the top production budgets and 'all star casts' with little in the way of story-telling or making something that can stand the test of time. I will say this, though, it does a great job of bringing us back to how well made the originals were and reinvigorates revenue for the classics, so... it's doing SOMETHING right.

Meh... I thought the new one was better than RoboCop 2... Jokes aside, the old one does showcase the time period it was made, and the new one kind of does with present, it mostly satirized FoxNews and police corruption (which was an aspect the original movie missed)... BUT while I do prefer the original since I find it to be more memorable, I don't feel like the new one is souless stuff, it's one of the better remakes out there, I feel like it has its own identity it's not just recycling "the best parts" of the original and the rest being about nothing like most modern remakes do. And again, I feel like this new movie is probably the best thing with the name "RoboCop" on it ever since the original film. Sorry Peter, but the sequels were silly pieces of shit... And so were Frank Miller's comics... And the TV shows...
@Cha4k9 жыл бұрын
DeepEye1994 The new one had some really interesting ideas, The drone war especially. Or the effects of corrupt and politically biased journalism as you mentioned, But it only touched on them and so mostly I found it dull. Which is too bad because I really liked the directors previous 2 films were about the drug wars and police corruption in Brazil.I think the original Robocop is near perfect for its genre. Robocop 2 has a couple of neat ideas but its nothing special, Entertaining though.Robocop 3, the tv shows, the tv movies and the comics were all trash.And the new one is just.. meh, I have no strong opinions on it either way.I have no problem with remake or reboots either, You can always go back and watch the original if you didn't like the remake. And every now and then you actually get a classic that surpasses the original. Such as John Carpenters version of The Thing.
@SlashManEXE9 жыл бұрын
The remake wasn't a bad movie. At the same time, it wasn't the instant-classic that the original was (admittedly a tough act to follow). The original will always be on a different level.

To me Weller will ALWAYS be the BEST Robocop. He brought Alex Murphy to life, especially through all that armor he wore.
@pathfinderLXXIV10 жыл бұрын
True on so many levels. He was perfect for this movie. His demeanor, his style, and most importantly his voice. Joel Kinneman seems more like a snot-nose punk and he definitely doesn't have "the voice" or the presence that Weller had. Just the fact that loud-ass, overbearing Sam Jackson is in this new one, for me, is a turn-off. Fortunately they balanced it out with Keaton and Oldman. The effects looks cool enough, but it'll never have the life that the original did. And Robo2 sucked. You people saying it was a great sequel are out of your minds. It tried so hard to recreate the satire/humor of the original and failed miserably.
@Cytron151510 жыл бұрын
Robocop 2 did suck. It focused too much on corporate heads of OCP and less on the title character. The filmmakers made Robo look too much like a clown when they overloaded his brain with all those polite commands.
@pathfinderLXXIV10 жыл бұрын
Cytron1515 Totally. It sucked because everything he did in the first seemed to have been for nothing. The corruption not only wasn't taken out of OCP after getting rid of Dick Jones, but it got worse. I never liked it for as many times as I probably saw it. I also hated that they inverted Robocop's armor color... it was a lot more blue. Always seemed weird. I would love to know how Weller would rate every movie that followed the first.
