All this time I thought that Weller didn't really know what he was getting into with this film. It's great that he actually sought out this part. I would have never guessed it.

I have Naked Lunch on VHS and always thought Weller must have been uncomfortable doing certain scenes. But after the first time I watched it, Weller had immediately become one of my favorite actors. So to know that he "begged Croneneberg to do Naked Lunch", hung out with Burroughs and considered the book his bible; I too would have never guessed, but great to know.

@@lostuser1094 My take is Cronenberg misdirected this film. It seems as though they were taking the "anti-novel" of all time and attempting to make it into something akin to a story. That doomed the film in my opinion. And "JUNKY", a novel more relevant than it ever was, SCREAMS to be made into a screenplay 66 years after it was first published. JUNKY would be perfect fit for HBO or AMAZON PRIME. One more thing that was problematic for Naked Lunch was this; Addiction is the Rosetta Stone for digging the work (can't really call it a novel). Cats like Peter Weller and others sprinkled around are the exceptions, and rare ones.

I'm so happy to know Peter Weller loves Naked Lunch as much as I do. I would have never known the source material was so personal to him.

Now imagine this guy, with a billion topics in his head, deep dedication to art and poetry and sociology being asked about RoboCop every single fucking day of his life. If I ever met him, despite RoboCop being my favourite film, I would not ask him about it! Luckily I am also a Burroughs fan, because of the Naked Lunch movie so I would mention that instead. Though he might shout at me for not knowing any of the names he mentions.

Great little insight. I've always loved Peter Weller's movies/characters, and am a HUGE David Cronenberg fan (and David Lynch, equally for that matter) first time I saw Naked Lunch I thought it was brilliantly acted, scripted and cool sets. Not to everyones taste I guess, but the crazier, trippier, gorier all the better 😉👍

I quite liked the movie after a first viewing. The only problem and I had was the fact that Peter tried so hard to stick to that "monotone" speech pattern that he doesn't utter some of his lines. Oh and those roaches. The real ones, not the typewriters. The typewriters were fine. But apart of that I found it very enjoyable.

He wasn't ever a hippie. As 51 year old man that was born in 67', I can relate to him...He's just frustrated at the fact every historical thing that he is talking about, is going over the heads of the audience. Remember that EVERYONE alive has a device in their hand that connects them with every piece of information on ANY subject. Now when I was a kid, we had a lot expected of us, so when we graduated High School, if you did it right, you would be what is known as a well-rounded individual with a knowledge of history and enough knowledge to not get lost in conversations . I was never alive in the 1920's and 30's yet I still know about Al Jolson, Sophie Tucker and lot of other things that you wouldn't think that someone of my age would even be aware of . It's not because I'm smarter or anything like that . It's because they used to expect way more out of students, and if you look at at 1950s yearbook, you'd see that all of the kids looked like ladies and gentlemen. If the curriculum of that time was given to school kids of today, at the very same level, they'd fail miserably. In the 1960's , while the reasons behind it started as truly noble. we ended up dumbing down generations. We we told to "Relax" and not be so "Uptight" , let your hair grow . It started great and it changed many things for the better, but them later (Today) it has turned into the exact opposite. Liberals wanted fairness and to have their voices heard without fear, and they achieved that . Flash to today, where Liberals have become SJWs. and are forcing people to see thing their way. Anyone who doesn't is labeled with one of their trick buzzwords like "Anti-Semite" , "Racist", Homophobe and they literally destroy your social life and finances just because you don't think the same. Sorry that I went off on a tangent, but it's frustrating for a person who sees how things were before and the notice difference in the way that they are now.
