Temptation. Loss of Innocence. Loss of Youth. It opens with a younger member paired with an older member. We see a bicycle, a sling shot, items associated with childhood. The painting Jin stares at is the fall of the angels. In the background there are two doorways one black, one white, good vs evil. V is literally the fallen angel as we see him with his wings torn off his back representing Temptation. We see Jin succumbing to Temptation kissing the statue and then everything cracking, bleeding colors as Youth and Innocence now has been lost. Beautiful! Amazing! Artistic! as only done by BTS 💜

It's individuation/growing up/becoming an adult. The religious symbols are only that. It's neither good nor bad just becoming independent. "Who would be born must first destroy a world." Part of that is loosing the protection you had as a child.
@denisedellasantina16433 ай бұрын
To add to the interpretations…And a wee bit of sexual discovery/release and celebration (note the colorful geysers, JK’s suggestive grin as he lounges on the bed, etc…) after the kiss. The Pieta cracking and V’s wing scars are fabulous visuals but I think it’s more about loss of innocence and the challenge of making the right choices once the blindfold of childhood has been torn away.

This MV references the book "Demian" by Herman Hesse. It's about growing up and facing temptation; that everyone has a dark side as well and you will never be whole until you embrace your entire self. You can see all the symbolism for "good vs. evil" and temptation throughout: The painting Jin is looking at in the beginning is "The Fall of the Rebel Angels", you see a white doorway and statue over one shoulder and black doorway and statue over the other, the apple at the last dinner setting, the green absinthe RM drinks, the green drop on JK's finger that he licks... and SO MUCH MORE! The statue Jin kisses is Abraxas, "Jung goes on: “Abraxas begetteth truth and lying, good and evil, light and darkness in the same word and in the same act." You can see Jin resisting temptation throughout the MV and then he finally accepts it when he kisses Abraxas...

Just three years ago, this was the fourth song I heard from BTS and it was still the same day that I heard them for the first time. It’s the song that cemented them in my heart as the best group I had ever witnessed. I’m 57 yrs old so I’ve seen and heard a lot, but I had never seen a group, or individual, display this level of artistry. In order to understand, I ask you to please take 10 minutes to watch the explanation video: “Blood, Sweat & Tears: What does it all mean?” by the channel, Don’t worry I’m not afraid. There’s no turning back once you realize how far they went to tell a universal story about moving from childhood to adulthood. The MV visuals represent the loss of innocence, facing temptation and acceptance of both “good and evil” within ourselves. Literary influences are from the book, “Demian”, by Hermann Hesse, along with the Bible, Nietzsche, the story of Icarus, and more. Every scene in the music video means something. I’m subscribing in hopes of more BTS reactions. I would like to suggest two songs. 1) “Dead Leaves” (sometimes titled as “Autumn Leaves”). There’s no MV, but this live performance is great: Autumn Leaves Live in Japan Epilogue concert with English subs on channel Joselina. 2) “Hold Me Tight” Again, no MV, but an incredible live performance: Hold Me Tight Live (with English subs) on channel Dorosoro. Needless to say, from the very first second to the very end it's full of symbolism and references.

The Opening is Bach’s requiem mass, the organ interlude is Buxtehude’s passacaglia. The video is based on Herman Hesse’s novel Demian, about coming to terms with the duality of the human psyche and facing temptation. The carved inscription over the painting of Icarus Fall is a quote about creativity from Nietzsche: « You must have chaos within to give birth to a dancing star. » You would probably find their 2020 album Map of the Soul intriguing as it is based on Jung’s psychoanalytic model, the concepts of Persona, Shadow and Ego. In particular, Black Swan is a song about the fear of a first death when an artist loses his art.

The first rapper was SUGA and the second was their leader, RM. They sing but in a limited range. Then you had their third rapper who is also a sub vocalist, J-Hope. After him came one of the vocalists, V, who is a baritone. Jungkook and Jin are tenors. Where it sounds like they're singing, Money, money, money' They're actually singing, 'More, more, more' in Korean. Thanks for a very interesting breakdown of one of BTS' best known and loved songs.

Since you know about singing techniques, you may want to check out the newest album released by a member of the BTS. It is Jimin, the singer, at the start of Blood, Sweat, Tears. Before going into the military, he recorded a solo album that was just released in July. He went back to basics and went through a lot of vocal training before the new album. Jimin was the last singer added to BTS and had the shortest training period. Because of that, he didn't get formal vocal lessons as the others did before the group debuted. He learned what he could on his own, but it was hard on his throat. So once the group recently went on break, he went about learning everything from the ground up. The main track on the album is a huge hit named Who. But another song that highlights his voice is a short intro piece called Rebirth.

One of the reasons I think I like this music is because it is a bit unpredictable and it sounds fresh, as you say. Im not trained in music but just how I feel when I listen. The mvs def tell a story (the BU) and add to the feeling as well. Like after the music cuts out, we get the organ, the kiss, then the music comes back, I get chills. And I always thought that last bit was a bit different musically but maybe it isn't. I just get chills when watching the video. lol. ARMY wrote: The MV is inspired by Hermann Hesse's book "Demian" The 1919 novel tells the story of a boy who fluctuates between the "world of light" and the "world of illusion." This song is part of the album Wings. The entire album is inspired by the novel Demian: The Story of the Youth of Emil Sinclair by Hermann Hess. The novel depicts Sinclair's transition from childhood to adulthood, passing through moments of dreams, lies and destruction. It reflects the transition from innocence to falling into the temptations of adulthood The band members don't even appear as young men, but as children - this is especially evident in the first frames of the video. Suga rides a bike around the museum, Jimin holds a slingshot, Jungkook hangs on a swing and eats a lollipop, Jin appears in the frame with a balloon. However, as the plot develops, children's games change. Instead of the sling that Jimin was holding, J-Hope has a bow and arrow in his hands, Jungkook leaves the swing, Jin releases the balloon. One way or another, the band members are symbolically saying goodbye to their childhood. And then comes another motive - temptation, sin. The dance symbolizes trying not to perceive the evil around them: the boys cover their eyes with their hands, then their lips, then their ears Now other symbols appear in the frame: Jimin's apple refers us to the biblical idea of original sin; Rap Monster drinks absinthe while bathed in clouds of smoke (presumably opium) in a gloomy den-like room. By the way, here's how Rap Monster himself explains the meaning of the Blood, Sweat & Tears video: "The stronger the temptation, the more you think about it and hesitate. This uncertainty is part of the growing up process. The song Blood, Sweat & Tears shows how we think, choose and grow.” If we give in to temptation, then we are not perfect. Recognizing one's own imperfection is a task faced by a teenager during adolescence. A key scene in which the heroes of the video embrace the duality of human nature is the kiss with the statue The angel statue is snow white, but has black wings spread out behind it. This is a symbol of imperfection: each of us carries within us black and white, good and evil, children and adults, sin and its redemption. When Jin touches the statue's lips, he takes a conscious step towards accepting his dual nature. Another frame has the same meaning - a V with carved wings on the back. But accepting evil as an integral part of the real world and oneself is not so easy. A teenager on the brink of puberty tries to close his eyes to the evil around him with childlike naivety. This inner struggle, the struggle with one's own ignorance, comes to the fore in the BTS video Blood, Sweat & Tears. Take a closer look at the dance that the boys perform: sometimes they close their hands, sometimes they open their eyes, ears, mouth, they show their desire to hide the unpleasant aspects of life from themselves. This movement is more clearly shown in the scene with Jin: the band members cover his face with their hands and then remove them - this is a moment of realization and acceptance of life as it is, along with injustice, evil, temptation and imperfection. . The same motif is repeated for the frames It's hard not to notice the sheer amount of artistic references scattered throughout the frames of BTS's Blood, Sweat & Tears video. But not only to the visual: in the first images, both the book and the theater telescope appear. However, the center of interest is still painting and sculpture. The plot of the clip takes place in a museum, and the images become a backdrop for the ongoing events. Jin freezes in front of Pieter Brueghel's The Fall of the Rebellious Angels. Jungkook's room has Herbert Draper's Lament over Icarus, and Pieter Bruegel's The Fall of Icarus is within the jump V. It's not hard to deduce the general arithmetic - the flight of Icarus ending with burnt wings and a fall. The flying and falling scenes are played out by the boys themselves - V jumping from the balcony and Jungkook floating below the ceiling of his room. Although the fate of Icarus was tragic, in the video his story is used more as a warning. Wings can lead to a fall, but they can also lift their owner to unprecedented heights. Suga confirms this idea: "The song expresses man's desire to soar high on his wings, despite all the temptations he is surrounded by in life." ... Since you asked.lol

BTS have created a new and masterful genre of storytelling. They have a Bangtan Universe storyline which runs through multiple albums and videos. Basically it's a story of humanity, trials and triumph which mirror the boys own feelings going through life in time with their own growing up and coming up. It starts with their HYYH albums and runs through unofficially the storytelling to Map of the Soul. It includes amazing short art films on top of their Music Videos, visual arts and literary, psychological and philosophical references and of course the music and lyrics themselves which are poignant in capturing the sentiment of the current chapter. There are many explained videos around their musical lyrics and videos for this reason. This video in particular is heavy with references. You can enjoy BTS at a surface level, which many people do, but if you actually dig a little, you will understand why they are the greatest group of the modern generation. Watch the explained video to Blood Sweat and Tears by Don't Worry Im not Afraid and you will get a window into what BTS actually do, it is so much more than what they are given credit for, it's highly artistic, emotional and intellectual.

If you want to watch & listen to the closest to "classical" voice & style, watch the Live performances of BTS Jin's "Epiphany" & Awake", as well as listening to the technically perfect OST "Yours" from the epic K-drama "Jirisan". James Osorio, a Broadway musical Producer, has remarked that Jin's "Silver Voice", a term coined by the Grammy Panel, sounds the most "classically trained." He wished Jin would try opera or musical once, as he has the widest range for a Contra-tenor, and the only member who can belt powerfully, too. Listen to their Japanese single "Crystal Snow" by the YT channel "Love Love Like Mine", the only one that has his close-up of the famous "Triple high notes"! His high notes are the best, and his low range is amazing too, watch "Dionysus," "The Astronaut" & "It's Definitely You" a duet with V, the Baritone Vocalist.

There’s is a book of Herman Hesse called Demian. The plot is about growing up. Emile Sinclair talks about his childhood, about home, about the importance of family, about the first lie, about the outside world, about sin and punishment. Max Damian is a boy whom Sinclair met in childhood, symbolizes the aspect of personality that helps Sinclair realize his true essence. He leads him to self-awareness and helps him go beyond generally accepted norms, helps understand that good and evil are inextricably linked, and that each person must overcome the fear of going beyond the usual morality. According to some, Damian is interpreted as the shadow archetype from Jungian psychology (on which a good part of BTS's work is based). He helps Sinclair integrate the dark, repressed aspects of his personality, which remained unconscious before meeting Damian. I also believe that Damian is not real. In the music video, RM reads a quote from the book, "He too was a tempter; he too was a link to the second, the evil world, with which I no longer wanted to have anything to do." The segment deals with struggling with temptation and realizing the complex nature of both good and evil, which fits with the themes of growing up and inner transformation explored in the video. The video also references the film Chatroom, a 2010 British psychological thriller directed by Hideo Nakata that tells the story of a young man named William who creates online chat rooms and manipulates people into depression and suicide attempts. The music video contains clear references to the fall of man and his desire to know the forbidden, a motif reinforced by images of angels, wings, an apple, and classical art. The group members confront their inner demons, and this is reflected in visual imagery such as mirrors, sculptures, and destruction. They symbolize the stages of growing up and self-knowledge, where it is necessary to overcome one's weaknesses. Vivid scenes show the desire to find a balance between passion and reason, as well as the consequences of subordinating one's desires. There is black and white. You’re too young to see the difference. Do not give in to temptation.

BS&T remains my favorite song by BTS. Of course, they have plenty of amazing songs, but for many reasons, this is my favorite. I'm so very glad to see an anaylsis for this one. Thank you! I noticed you were analyzing and reacting to some of BTS' solo songs, and I would like to recommend Serendipity by Jimin and Inner Child by BTS (V's solo song from Map of the Soul: 7). I would also like to once again recommend ATEEZ to you. Halazia is one of my favorites because it showcases every member's voice, but I would, truthfully, appreciate any ATEEZ analysis when you are able to! I am sure you get an overwhelming number of recommendations 😅

You should react/analize "The true untold" by BTS. There is many live presentations, i recomend the stage mix

You should create a BTS only playlist so we know what you’ve already reacted to and we can make recommendations based on that.

I would love to see you doing a break down of "Halazia" from ATEEZ. There is SO MUCH happening in this song not only vocally but also in the background of the music. I'm very curious what you would catch while listening to it. One of the members (Jongho) has an amazing high voice and another one (Yeosang) has a very beautiful low one so their songs usually sound pretty interesting with only that but it is also insanely well layered and versatile with all their unique vibes. It's very different from what you hear in BTS songs as they have pretty unique style of their own.

BTS has a universe!!! It’s called BU. They have trilogies based on albums and hiding messages on lyrics. They are literal artists. They write and produce most of their stuff!

You need to watch videos of them performing live. The first singer is Jimin, btw with Jungkook being the 2nd singer.

Bts black swan and ON are great too. Have you ever reacted to stray kids? They do all sorts of "genres" you could say while still keeping the stray kids sound. Kind of like bts having a variety. Vocal songs are like "cover me", "neverending story", levanter, hellavator or "scars". Very popular is "gods menu", chk chk boom, back door, maniac. EDM/club-like is victory song, side effects, distric 9, get lit, venom... surfin, superboard, and time out are pop like, red lights and taste is very creative and sensual full of vocals. All in, give me your tmi, tortise and the hare, easy, miroh, great rap parts as well as many of the ones already listed. Hyunjin one of the main dancers matches taemins style very well and their stuggles and stories have lots of similarities i think that's why they hit it off pretty well and are friends.

"Not only so good at singing, but also so good at dancing." As a fan of BTS for 9ish (WOW) years, I couldn't help but chuckle because the leader, Namjoon, stage name RM (formerly Rap Monster) was renowned as not being able to dance, even at one point saying "It's R-A-P Monster, not D-A-N-C-E Monster." He's gotten a lot better, and was never a terrible dancer.
