Hi James I'm not up on American truck breaking systems but a lot of older British truck's we had a in-line check valve about half way between the compressor and if that would leck off then we would get the same thing because that valve would let the air tanks leck back and cause your problem with not going over 55psi, apart from that your lady Jessica is absolutely fantastic the way she knows her way around your spanners and not frightened to get in there and get dirty I think that is great my ex wife would try and help me out but momma is great at what she doing I also like the fact the two of you just get on with thing's (no shouting on camera) like some channels do, I'm sorry for you losing all your filming it's a sham but thank you for producing a good video from a bad situation I can't wait to see the peterbuilt hit the road home thank's again.

I'm glad you and your wife got a got a chance to work on the 1972 Freightliner. To me it seems like you're getting much closer to the point of taking the truck home. It's not easy being pretty and having lots of patience. Wish I lived closer I would like to see if I could help find the problem for Mr. Pretty. I am good with air leaks, and I am an expert in Wiring. But James will find it, he is a very smart person. I have learned a lot on this Channel, and I continue. Getting ready to order my son a Black Betty T-Shirt color ASPHALT! Its's TO BAD that at the bottom of the truck there isn't a signature of James Pretty on it. He too watches all your videos on you Tube. Just found out the other day he was helping in the garage, and he tells me Well James would do it this way, and that way. So, I ask who this guy James? He tells me James Pretty on You Tube is Awesome. Hope he talks about me when he gets older than 12. So, on his Birthday I will get him a Black Betty T-Shirt. Love your video's.

use a screwdriver and poke the r12 thru the exhaust port, that foot valve being stuck may have pushed it down and all the air is going to a rotted out brake chamber. those old trucks didnt have the 90 psi regulators, most of them gave all the air to all tanks at once, not one then another and so on like they do today. three things we know. the d2 isnt stuck in the off postion, the unloaders are down so it builds air. the compressor is working. the air leak is massive, leads me back to brakes, all of those stratoflex hoses are most likely porus, but you already know that i am sure,

Hi James and Jessica. Great videos. I'm not sure about old Peterbilts of that vintage but new trucks have what's called a "pressure protection valve" between the primary and secondary air tanks that does what you described about opening at a set pressure (usually ~100 psi in my experience) to let the air into the secondary tanks and the rest of the system. Maybe there is one of those in your air system that is opening to a big leak and/or maybe it's just not working properly.
@JamesPrettyАй бұрын

Its the check valve between your 2 tanks n second tank is leaking. You cannot hear leak cause no air in second tank. Follow line off compressor to condensate tank (if it has) then to main tank. Then there be a main line to second tank. Try plugging that line.

James it kinda sounds like a pop off valve popping out and releasing the air pressure on one of the tanks or right b4 the tank and closing shut when pressure drops to 30 it shouldn't do that but setting so long hard to tell but you definitely need a lot of air to be able to find all the leaks but you will find it just take some time

As your air pressure rises the Tractor Protection Valve allows air to go to nonessential air accessories like air seat or suspension, so you might have a air leak beyond what you have been concentrating on.
@JamesPrettyАй бұрын
you're not wrong, I spend another day disconnecting and plugging every line on the truck looking for the one that stops the hemorrhage starting with the furthest thing from the main tank...

Hi James and Jessica getting closer! Was thinking the foot was probably a lot of the reason she wasn’t building air seems to have helped a lot tho. Builds more now than before. I think you are correct though gonna need something to really put a bunch of air into the system then you’ll be running like crazy to find all of the leaks. You can only do so much finding of leaks with only 30-50 psi in the system. That little valve you had in your hand maybe a big part tho. That looks like a quick release valve for the brakes. I’ve had them fail and really made a huge problem for building air. I’m sure you’ll get it fixed up soon. Stay safe I’ll be watching for you to go live later can’t wait for the updates

Like the thought process on isolating the tanks. With it opening(leak) and closing would make me look at any place there is a rubber diaphragm or even a soft line to hardline such as an end fitting. Another thought is that if the lines were empty for a long period of time there could be crap in the line or system that causes as failure at a certain psi. This one would be my least likely as it seams to close off and hold a bit of pressure.

41:53-41:55 into the video you mentioned the air tank it could be a small enough hole in the tank that is to weak to hold and keep the pressure in the tank and it could be the Air pressure relief valve is stuck partly open or releasing the air as fast as when the compressor stops supplying air to the tank by way of the pressure valve that sounds plausible solution try a different tank as I suggested in the last comment ty for letting me share Matt AKA DDP be safe out there My friend and brother and sister and friends and everybody yuuuuup ps it is a little more work but time and cost effective and you do not need that much air tank pressure to just get it home a smaller tank would work temporarily yuuuuup
