Great work Mr. T.S. no body who ever painted a car or truck would ever say your taking to much time. Prep, prep, and more prep is the only way your body work is going to be satisfactory. Plus doing all the work by yourself adds a whole new perspective to the job, you should be proud mate, looking great. 👍🏻

Indeed,I've lost count of the amount of times over the years where people have asked about stuff I've done or still doing,when will it be finished?,why has it taken so long? etc. all from those that generally have never so much as wielded a screwdriver in their lives.I never answer them because by virtue of asking its obvious they don't and won't understand and theres no such thing as an honest answer to those questions. I do this stuff for a living and have couple of long term projects on the go,having the luxury of working on some of them during my working days,so I'm not restricted to one day a week,one project still ongoing I started in 1997!😊. Mark is doing 3 trucks,a trailer and 2 cars at once,holding down a 9-5,having time for his family and filming/editing the stuff we get to see. If you ask me,he's making it look bad for the rest of us😂.

Watching through the painting steps, the gun issue may have been how thin the etching primer was to the base primer. Been a long time since I have worked around paint though. My dad was a Body Shop teacher for a short time, one of his passions.

You are probably already done but bringing in The Porkchop Express and plugging that in the Duke in (if equipped with a block heater) as well as blowing the torpedo heater on them to increase their ambient temperature will help keep the shop warmer while painting it. Additionally install/hang a couple of 5 to 10 inch rings from the ceiling to run air hose through them for painting the roof of the cab and sleeper. Lastly I have spent far more man hours prepping a pickup than you have LBL. Admittedly I skimmed the truck with mud and blocked the truck, primed, blocked, sealed, and painted a base coat of silver, and then painted in the finial color and clear. When wiping down a vehicle I agree with what you said about wetting it down and letting sit ( I personally will let it sit for 5 minutes) What you didn’t mention is use a clean lint free rag (I buy bulk t-shirt material and cut it into 2 foot squares and then run them through the washing machine with a cup of household ammonia and rinse them twice and then dry them) before wiping the solvent/cleaner off the vehicle I spritz the rag with a little solvent and then fold it in 4 and then only wipe it one direction and never use the same wiping surface twice. When done with the rags I air dry them and reuse them for anything else. When turning your shop into a paint booth I move the vehicle to be painted outside and blow out the entire shop with a air fitting screwed into a piece of tubing starting in the far corner up high and work my way to the door and then let everything settle and do it again. I follow that up with hanging my plastic/Tyvek and then using a commercial style string mop and mop bucket mop the floor with bucket full of hot water and a cup of Tide and do that twice before backing the vehicle I am painting back inside and wipe it down before I mask it off and then again after I mask it off, followed by a wipe down with a new tack rags (notice I said rags and not rag) because I tack the vehicle twice before spraying it with primer, sealer, paint and clear. Personally I I only use inexpensive paint guns for primer and use a good gun for color and another quality gun for clear. Lastly a trick an old painter I know who is retired swore by having a beer or two before spraying color and or clear. He contended that the little bit of buzz you get from drinking a beer or two is enough to loosen up inhibitions or fears about screwing something up while painting. Additionally he was a proponent of the first couple of coats of clear have some color in them and then follow them up with several coats of clear. After painting a vehicle without a paint booth he was a firm believer of doing nothing to the vehicle finish (cut and buff) for a minimum of 30 days except carefully removing the masking tape and paper from the vehicle as soon as possible because it is awful easy to screw a paint job up when unmasking it.
@majobis7 сағат бұрын
Yeah something was defiantly going with the etching and the spray gun creating a weird spray pattern. I could still see the pattern after the first coat of high build primer on it and it looks like it was going away with each layer of high build on it And I know a quality gun cost money and it may be worth it in the long run with all the other paint projects coming down the line. But we all learn things as we go on in life and all those years of work are starting to pay off hence the name "Little By Little" You are almost at the payoff of git-er done man. And a big shout to you on the 100th for the truck

Mark, congratulations on getting to this point. It is going to be nice to see little by little in Montana Blue. Every time I see you getting set up to paint, I think you should mount rails down from your ceiling to hang your trapping from. Think of the way some emergency room bays are divided using curtains. That way if you wanted, you could leave them permanently hanging and just push them back against the wall when you aren’t using them. It would also allow you to slide them around while in use. Slide them open to have a Passageway but then you could slide them shut when you wanted. You may have already thought of this and ruled it out for your particular use case.

I use a pump sprayer to dampen the floor. Works great as it applies just enough water to hold the dust down but there’s less mess or running/splashing water.
@paulsackett34852 күн бұрын
Mark hell of a job! No one can say you didn’t bust your ass on these projects. I do have one piece of advice on the painting technique. When you’re spraying 1 direction and want to go back the opposite way, let off the trigger instead of “making the turn” with the trigger held down. This will leave a puddle or heavier film thickness where you made the turn and will show up in your topcoat. You should always start by moving in the direction you want to paint before you get to the surface, then pull the trigger right before you get to the surface and then spray slightly past the edge then let off. I hope that makes sense 😂. But again great job and thanks for taking us along for the ride!
