I absolutely love this stuff. My Dad was a mechanic his whole life ( self taught ) and he inspired me to learn how to fix cars too. He started his own business and built it around helping people for a fair price, not taking advantage of people. He named his business "Done Right Auto Repair". Nobody has ever heard of him before but he is a Legend. Sadly he passed away a few years back. He never got to see this show but I guarantee he would have LOVED it too. I just really appreciate what you do Derek, you are an inspiration to us all. Seriously Thank You.

Just a bit of a tip if you are looking for black wood. Get a jar and put about 1/2 cup of vinegar and a roll of steel wool in and cap it off. Once the steel wool has dissolved you are ready (the finer the steel wool the faster this will happen). Dip a rag into the fluid and rub it slowly across the wood. It will probably only take an application or two to turn the wood a deep black. This is called Ebonizing. Good luck to you!

Seeing these old square body Chevy revivals takes me back. I'm a ford OBS truck guy now but, my first vehicle I ever had when I got my license at 16 was an 85 K10 Scottsdale with a 305. Square body Chevys are as american as apple pie. This brings back so many memories of my youth. I'm only 41, but seems so long ago. The girlfriends, parties, learning experiences I had in that truck. Thanks for keeping another one roadworhy for another 20 years. I may go back to a squarebody at some point.

43:55 hey Derek! “Expert” woodworking tip here- alcohol based leather dye works phenomenally. I’ve used it on some guitars in the past. Most of the name brand stains, like valspar, don’t have a good black (or even a nice dark one, my coffee is darker than it for Pete’s sake!) but an alcohol based black leather dye will make that grain darker than the molasses used in actual grain!
@1101TV2 күн бұрын
Great idea, I bet it'll work. Gel Stain is another option as well. I used General Finishes on the Kitchen table I built, but it may not be available locally. You can layer it to get a more specific color or darkness. Dyeing would probably be the quick and easy way though.

When I redo clusters, especially Chevy of this era, I spray the faces with clear coat. I have found the letters and numbers turn into powder on some, and you touch it, it is gone. So clear coat seals them in place. Outside of that I do everything else the same. I also replace the bulbs for good measure and clean the contact pads and shoot a little lube into the speedo where the cables comes in and spin it with a screw driver to get things freshened up.

You know your message at the end there is a real gem. The 73 dodge in my picture is my project. Bought it back in 2017 and didn't get to do a whole lot with until recently. Thought about selling it a few times but never could leave it posted for sale even though I had a lot of interest in it everytime. Now I just got a complete brake system put in it. New Master, rear drums and shoes and all that, converted it to front disc with parts from an 87 dodge, and even got to try my hand at running all new hand made brake lines. Now I'm about to get the stuff to rebuild an edlebrock I picked up for it so it will get a 4 barrel swap, then it's on to exhaust. Interior and body work will be the real challenge but man I'm having fun tinkering with it. This old stuff is so much more fun than modern automotive repair. I know because that's how I am funding this truck haha. I would like to end up in a situation like yours one day. A classic automotive repair/restore/sales type of deal. These things are just too much fun.

I have an 81 Scottsdale I’m working on at the moment. It was my first vehicle that I bought back in 91. I’m the second owner. Originally had 123 k on it. I’ve got over 450k now it. The old 305 cam lobes went flat. So threw in an old 78 350 with 350 hp. What a difference it made. That 305 grandpa motor was tired! 😊 it did go another300 k . Can’t complain too much. I’ve only broke down maybe 3 or 4 times, if that many. These old trucks are super reliable! As long as you maintain them for the most part. I change my oil religiously.

@joshuamac6616Күн бұрын
Working on that bezel, sharpie makes a metallic silver marker, that looks awesome, and if you spray your Bezel black, use the sharpie to replicate your silver trim, and then clear over the top, it looks brand new If you mess up with the sharpie, you can wipe it off with alcohol and start over, but it’s really easy to do with the fine tip that it gives you I figured a guy would bleed bloop that for a feller.

I had the same wobble on a set of factory wheels on my BMW 325 and what it turned out to be was a tiny concentric ring left from the previous aftermarket wheels. Because the aftermarket wheels had been on so long the ring just became part of the hub and you couldn’t really see it. Once the rings were discovered and removed the factory wheels seated and the wobble went away.

Best part of the weekend starting is a new Vice Grip video dropping. Watching while I get my 92 SVX fired up for the first time in 5 years. Never give up on them!

That Appliance Epoxy is probably the best paint I've ever used for longevity on parts. I painted a trailer tongue a few years ago with that and it still looks like I just painted it. The rest of the trailer I used regular black and it's all faded out and looks rough. So, use it the next time you have to paint something and you'll be impressed! Looks like the best place to find a wobble pop holder for the bench seat is Amazon these days!! That is a really good makeover! The truck looks absolutely perfect for a good shop truck!!! She dolled real nice!! AWESOME video as usual Derek!!! GOD bless y'all!!!

The first time I worked on the interior of my 67 Mercury Cougar XR7, I used rattle can semi gloss black paint, Testor's gloss silver paint, and gloss rattle can silver paint. Got a cheap auto carpet pad from Walmart and cut it to cover the worn out dash pad and "Bam" new interior. Darek, you are correct, one does not need to spend alot of money to make your car look good. Keep up these great video's and Blessings to you and your family.

Dang it, Derik... I saw those wheels in the thumbnail and immediately thought, "Ooohhh someone is making old-school spoke wheels?" Nope. Read the words. Love the vintage wheel choice!!! 🫤 😊

The new style white spokes just don't do it like the old Jackman wheels. Love ya man!

That went well, & it looks great! I'm sure that little things like this will improve the driving experience, even in a work truck. BTW, I'd like to extend my congratulations to Jessica! The very fact that she's given birth to 3 sons & still retained her girlish figure is a huge deal & is astonishing in my book. I've only witnessed that once before, with a lady that was our supervisor, & I was just as astonished she had 3 grown kids. It's always heartwarming how well you two work together, both working hard, & your love for one another. Well done, & thanks for sharing your content with us!

Hey Derek. I am glad you discovered the appliance epoxy. I have used it so much over the years. I actually painted an entire 1987 Firebird with the white. It levels so well. It is hard and shiny. It actually lasts well with the UV too. Good on you bro.

Many moons ago I had an 83 blazer. Midnight blue, had a 395 in it. Had it for 8 or 9 years, even repainted it in my garage. Wish I had it back. Loved that truck. Actually traded it for a 69 c10 short step side I spent 2-1/2 years restoring, had it for 10 years. Wish I coulda kept them all! Doing all the work myself and was very satisfying to say I did.

Appliance epoxy is great stuff, I used some to paint the fork legs on an old motorcycle, even with no front fender it held up great.
