That actually looked much easier than it probably was.... I'm not a mechanic, but my Dad was. He always showed me what a difference motor mounts make. I would most certainly get those bushings and get that done right when you can.

Man you broke out that clutch jack and I thought OMG I could have used that the couple of years I worked on trucks right after I got out of the Navy in ‘73. That thing is amazing!! Yeah, working on those things is no joke, everything is big and heavy and will hurt you before you know it!! But super job on the door skins! And the replacements are fantastic!!! LBL is going to be sweet rollin down the road!!!

Hey mark make sure you stick new engine mounts in! I doubt someone had forgot to install them most likely the remains are still in there and they have just deteriorated over time and bits have fallen out! If you leave it as is you will wear the metal mounts out and it has the potential to crack the mounts our even worse lead the frane to break!

When drilling the Hucks, Bucks or Blind rivets...you only need to drill the shank size and not the head size...so 3/16 drill at the center is all you need to drill... Very nice attention to detail...b

I would highly recommend getting the fly wheel resurfaced. Anytime we do a clutch flywheel gets cleaned up, it's usually fairly cheap
@wadelevan17876 ай бұрын
That’s true, but in this application, it is probably not worth it. Think of the life of the clutch if you resurface it or do not resurface it. The difference it makes will probably never come in to play with this truck. This truck will be lucky to see 50k miles in the next 30years.
@alexandershriver2846 ай бұрын
@wadelevan1787 I agree it won't see much for miles but it's still cheap insurance. I can't quite remember exactly what we charge to do it but it's damn cheap. Honestly if he'd pay to ship it down here to South Dakota I'd do it for free

LBL is really looking good and coming along nicely can’t wait to see what the final results look like. I have been watching your channel since day one and have enjoyed everything you have done to all three trucks. As a child I loved semi trucks and had the opportunity to drive them for 10 years before starting a family and retiring but watching you rebuild these beautiful trucks and the T-A has been a highlight of my Thursday morning routine and I wouldn’t have it and other way. Keep up the great work bud.

If you used the truck you would want a rubber bushing on the tranny mount. It sroos vibration and noise from going into the truck plus keeps cracks from developing in the trans case. You are really good at showing perfection in doing a job.

Mornin Mark I learn so much about truck parts from you that I never knew before, we made door skins for a Kenworth C500 once out of aluminum sheeting, I suppose there had to be a place to buy new ones but the kinda cheap skates we worked for didn't shop there, That transmission jack and clutch jack are premo pieces of work I'll bet that tranny and clutch are going back in easier than they came out. Have a great week my friend say hello to Mrs. Twin stix for us

Just an idea; I would get some body seal between the new outer skin and the door frame becasue even with the Bucks and Rivets water will get in. But those new panels seem to be a very good fit. Quality always pays off.

Mark, please talk to Blake, and see if you can borrow some Cleco fasteners and pliers. They temporarily hold the aluminum panels in place, so that you don't build in any distortion when fastening panels, to frames/structure. Best wishes from Northern Manitoba.

Now's the time for transmission mount bushings it'll never be easier than now. That's probably what got your shift linkage all buggered up in the 1st place since there's nothing to absorb all the twisting your trannie does when you come off and on with the throttle. Good time to pull the flywheel and get it resurfaced for that new clutch. And while you're at it you can check the rear main seal since it'll be wide open too. See how these projects can get out of control in a hurry lol?

OK. The reason for this transmission exercise is that it comes out of gear on occasion according to episode #86. The shifting mechanism has been redone and tightened up previously. The shifting mechanism is mounted by bracket to the frame rail. The bushing, pad, softener, whatever you want to call it, for the right rear engine mount is missing. This engine mount is right in front of the bracket for the shifting mechanism. The missing bushing allows extra movement of the engine and the transmission, which is bolted solidly to the engine. The transmission will move more than the engine because it is out there farther towards the end of the stick. Probably replacing that right side bushing, and maybe even the left one, should have been the first job you did, and not something you might do later if the whim overtakes you. Take care. And good luck. I better edit this. What I’m saying is the transmission is shifting itself out of gear, because the shifting linkage is tight, but the transmission is moving all around. Hopefully the trans is fine as frog hair, but collateral damage is a possibility due to the lack of maintenance.

Howdy Mark from BC. Ideally it would have been better to pin the door skin with clecos before installing the rivets to keep all the holes lined up. Hopefully all the rest of the rivet holes still line with little or no drilling, although I doubt Blake would have any the right size for your door he will be mostly using 1/8 and 3/32 sizes for his RV. As always enjoy your journey with your truck projects, looking forward to the one.

I don't know if you are but I highly recommend that you get the flywheel resurfaced and make sure you count the teeth as sometimes they might make a mistake and give you a flywheel that is either too small or too big by mistake

Are you going to get the flywheel machined/surfaced? That is standard procedure when installing a new clutch to ensure it has a good mating surface. Although there are no heat spots the clutch usage over time creates a glaze much like brakes on a car. With that glaze the clutch won't operate as effectively.
